Yeah the Salem out really did hurt our rotations not to mention robbed us of much needed ball use. Really sucks losing players like that early in the game.

Just like losing Gus in the QF, it was brutal.

How did Salem hurt our rotations if the sub never gets on the ground it's 4 on the bench....

People calling Fritsch a front runner are seriously deluded.

He is in the top 5 for overall goals kicked in the last 5 season, playing  as a medium forward. He's kicked only a handful less goals than Jeremy Cameron has in 5 years for goodness sake.

He also kicked 6 on the biggest stage of all and would have comfortably won the Norm Smith if not for Trac.

If you are playing Melbourne, who is the one forward you put all your attention on? Fritsch.
Kosi of course, but in terms of who do you defend in the air? It's Fritsch.

For such an undersized forward playing as basically our number one target going inside 50, he is remarkably consistent. He needs help though.

I don't know how Fritsch can be expected to play a good game when the few deliveries into our 50 are coming straight from the pie shop.

How much time is Taj Woewodin spending in the middle of the ground? It's horses for courses not always next man up.

The worst thing that ever happened for his career was beating up on Easton Wood in a grand final.

Drank all his own bathwater then topped it up for his fans.

Yes, the worst thing that ever happened to his career was helping us win a flag. Can’t believe he smashed his opponent on grand final day. Disgraceful behavior.

He’s backed up every year since 2021, even last year with a badly injured foot. Fritsch would get a game in every forwardline in the league.

I swear Demonland post loss is unhinged.

Correct, I also don't understand why they were using JVR on Harris Andrews? It should've been BBB, probably wouldn't have made a huge difference but you can't ask your second year Fwd to go against their veteran key defender.

Petty was on Andrews most of the night, spoiled him a few times and tried a few Melksham tactics but doesn't have the experience and craft in the dark arts of holding, blocking, creating space that Melk does (and mind you, Melk is mostly smashed by Andrews when they play, he just tries to decoy him and beat him a few times).

Until the last quarter where the Lions dropped their pressure and we won some centre bounces JVR, BBB, Fritsch all were easily accounted for by Payne, Lester and Starcevich in whatever combination they tried.

I mean how did he not cut across inside 50 in under 2 seconds when Trac completely ignored him in an open 50 and kicked it directly to Andrews instead?

He is always playing on far bigger opponents and having the ball kicked on top of his head. Fritsch should be the third “tall”. He should play the role say Bailey plays for the Lions rather than being the main tall target inside 50.

It still doesn't affect rotations,  can affect personal moves not rotations.

If it helps I feel the same way about him after most wins?

And yeah, some guys don't come back the same after premierships. Smart clubs address this, they change roles, they demand more.

If we want to win another flag we need to change our method and get more from certain players

We could potentially try man on man, Port did it against Essendon, but that’s Essendon. Man on man against brisbane probably just creates acres of space for guys to lead in to and opens the corridor.

There was a noticeable demand at times to push the half backs up and shrink the ground.

But the Lions are so well drilled at overlapping numbers and moving in and out of spaces to create kicks.

Even if we were getting smashed we only conceded 12 goals, only 10 to 3/4 time and the worst quarter for goals conceded was the first with 4.

Brisbane are going to posses the ball and move it well, that’s what they do. And they’re going to score.

We were completely smashed at the contest and had no flow in our own ball movement. The transition defending was a far lesser problem in the scheme of things.

Its infuriating to watch as we appeared helpless, chasing tails. The lesson for Brisbane is clear, you need to keep the ball in motion, both with ball in hand and defensively. If you give them the uncontested game, they are unstoppable. Its how Pies beat them this year and in the GF.

They are also really good with ball in motion, but it can be defeated by intense pressure on the ball.

I dont know if anybody has access to the pressure index, but i'd be surprised if we were anything over 170. Whereas the Lions were probably 190-200+ for most of the game.

I'm not sure if we can dismiss this loss on being tired.

It looked like many were. My reason is that the backline performed very well in restricting the lions to 80 points.

They dominated us everywhere and did kick a big score.

Was our backline fatigued. Maybe but it certainly did it's job  in some ways

I guess we lacked attacking run from defence. But credit to stopping a huge percentage loss.

There was one awful play by Petracca, we get the turnover and quick connection then Petracca is out in space.

He then proceeds to stop to "lower the eyes" , no one is inside our fwd 50. 3 seconds later he kicks it high and long to no one. Turnover to the Lions.

Fritsch was screaming for the ball just outside of 50, granted he was on the opposite flank but Petracca never saw him.

But tbh, why didn't he decided to keep carrying the ball and then have a kick at goal from 45. He has enough space to do it and most of the Brisbane backs were running to their goal square. Mind blowing stuff 🤦🏻‍♂️🤦🏻‍♂️

If one wanted a worse trio of maggots doing our game?

They were all there again. Paying a ten metre one time then not paying a 15 mtr next.

Evening up the frees, but couldn't bring themselves to do it. Every time we got a mark it was play on. Every time they got a mark or free kick it was ........would you like a cup of tea before you kick.

The "smiling assassin" and "adolphus Twirk" made sure we were not going to get close but we did.

"Fatso" and "dopey" were talking all through our game except when we scored, obviously not often.

One other thing Lurch played a great game on Max, because he slept on top of him for most of it.

- 33 in the pressure rating (Fritsch with 1 pressure act in an entire game of AFL footy)

- 29 in tackles.

That's a disgrace on our behalf but it showed how much this game meant to Brisbane.

If Brisbane applied half the pressure they did last night in the 2023 grand final, they'd still be celebrating a premiership. Instead they were minus 20 tackles to Collingwood and conceded a ridiculous 63 points in the first half of a GF.

for me it was the amount of times we got pinged for holding the ball, dont think ive seen so many in a game, especially in the third Q. The amount of poor decisions, loopy, ****ty handballs and kicks to players that put them under the pump. In contrast Brisbane were so sleek with their possessions, hitting targets, and moved the ball so quickly. Looked like a top 4 team, where we looked like a middle of the road team. Although the conditions were different, its exactly how Sydney beat us.

No Kozzie no Melbourne.

He's the barometer. His pressure in the forward half is missed and we've lost both matches this year  he's missed now in similar fashion.

Also miss the ability to change up a losing midfield combination. He needs to reel in the rough stuff now and just stay on the field.

LOL my DA buddy said to me not 10 minutes ago, “I’ll shoot the first person who says ‘No Kozzie, no Melbourne’.” He then went on to say that this is what “clueless oppo fans and the media” will likely say. I said hold my beer.

That behaviour from him was an absolute embarrassment. Didn’t care who won the grand final last year until I saw that carry on and was so happy that they lost. Happy to support a team that doesn’t carry on with such rubbish win or lose. He is a complete and utter disgrace to football what else is there to say.

Thought what Answerth did was pathetic and a reflection of his [censored] character. Thought the same of Sydney's Parker against Essendon. Dislike both.

There was another similar in the 1st half.
On the rebound from half back a player running down the wing (not sure who) crying out for someone to lead at him and all our forwards got their backs to him bolting to the goal square.
It was like they didn't want it.
That ended up being a bomb to no-one.

What's with opposition supporters & there obsession with our crowd numbers.

I thought 40,000 was a pass & we had more. Some people out there were talking 60 but we were never going to get that.

Carlton fans in particular are out in force having a crack. Not our fault your club decided to play at marvel.

    CONSISTENCY by The Oracle

"I think we have got a team that can win a premiership, and if we get in this year, I don't think there is a team that is going to want to play us. This year is not a write-off, I don't concede that. Not at all." — Collingwood President Jeff Browne. I love this sort of optimism from the Magpie President after his club’s eleven goal defeat at the hands of the fast rising Hawks. It’s consistent with the fighting spirit of the club that won last year’s flag.  I only wish I could say the s

    FEARS by Whispering Jack

Melbourne’s worst fears about the absence of Max Gawn were realised when it received a shellacking from Fremantle’s ruckmen Sean Darcy and Luke Jackson who dominated the hit out tally in their game at Optus Stadium on Sunday by a massive 47 to 19. As a result, the 50-point deficit at the end of the game proved to be a loss that was long foreseen that was two years in the making and demonstrated a complete lack of hindsight and planning from the club. To add insult to injury, Jackson was a D

The Frankston Dolphins broke a run of six straight losses against their neighbours, the Casey Demons and kept their hopes for a long-awaited return to the VFL finals alive with a 27 point victory over at Kinetic Stadium. Casey was welcomed to the Peninsula by grey skies, heavy rain and angry seas with threatening white-capped waves whipped up by gale force winds.
