POSTGAME: Rd 04 vs Adelaide

That was a gutsy win. With 10 minutes to go, I didn’t think we could hang on. You could see every player was spent.
But they did it

Great game by Trac. He is truly something special.

Huge kudos to Sparrow, who had a very good game tonight and really looks to have taken his game to another level this year.

Incredible effort. Surely we've just done something no club has ever done before - knock of both of a non Vic state's sides over there in consecutive weeks.

Actually yeah @Chook

Positives: no fresh injuries and another interstate win.

Negatives: goalkicking accuracy (Fritsch apart) a bit below par and last-quarter fadeout.

Special award: Steven May for playing through the pain. We could have lost without him.

Pleasing prospects:

* Chandler rapidly proving we were right to let Bedford go instead of him.

* McVee another young gun looking the part.

* Windsor handling a steep learning curve with aplomb.

* TMac showing he still has fuel in the tank.

Just got out of Elvis Costello at the Palais (superb concert by the way) and checked the scores for the first time.

I honestly couldn't care about the inaccurate score line, two wins in a week in hostile territory is a terrific achievement that the media will no doubt fail to bring attention to over the coming week.

Great to see Fritta amongst the goals. Looks set for another 50+ year.

Looking forward to seeing McVee's highlights. Sounds like he was superb.

A great team effort in my opinion.
not every player can get 20 touches,

play your part and only a few stuff ups

I only saw a couple and they were early.

easier to pick the average players rather than the best.  It is a GREAT time to follow the mighty DEMONS

That was a very 'Melbourne Season 2023' type game.

Bit of an ugly mess, but effective D all over the ground.

We wanted it ugly, didn't want to get into a shootout with the Camry Crows. During the week the stat was bandied about when Adelaide score less than 100 they are 3-15 or something like that. We wanted a scrap, especially in the last quarter. Petty nails a couple of those set shots and Billings one or two of his chances and it wouldn't have been close.

Superb coaching yet again 👏👏👏

I thought Billings played well. If he kicked straight he could have had 3 goals.

I thought he was very poor and should've been subbed off for Taj during the 3rd quarter. I understand why they subbed Brown off but Billings was bad, he missed his chances but worse was his tackling, let multiple tackles slip which allowed the Crows to attack when they should've been held up or turned over.

Poor old Matthew Nicks sounded bereft in his presser and they're only four games into their season.

Probably realises he has a pretty poor team to coach

Apart from a few good players they drop off very quickly

His busted hand is forcing him to kick more too, which isn't a bad thing.

Can't wait to see Tholstrup in the 1s as well. I have a feeling he'll be another JT special.

The Kolt could come in for Koz.

It was a very professional win, so impressed with this side. Our senior players lead by example, our young players are exceptional. Max, May, Petracca all huge. Windsor, Howes, McVee, Sparrow, JVR, Koz so composed.

Agree, except Koz not composed.
The stupid likely suspension aside, he also could easily have had Petty’s mark reversed for a silly meaningless late bump.

They still boo Dangerfield 🤣

Well who doesn’t?

29 minutes ago, Red But Mostly Blue said:

The only real negative for tonight is  Kozzie’s likely suspension. We really need him next week. Not a lot in it, but enough in today’s game and completely avoidable and unnecessary.

Leadership need to have a long hard lack to him.   Could cost us a big game later in the season if he  continues this.   He is NOT a thug but let’s himself and the team down.

Play of the game for me. Absolute stunningness or some other superlative that BT would use.

Maybe stunnicity at its bestest?

Or he missed three very gettable goals which puts the pressure back on us. A 3-4 goal buffer instead of a 6-7 goal buffer.

What stood out most though is Melbourne pride themselves on contest and defence. Billings provides none of that. His kicking and ball use against Hawthorn was good. They gave him space. In tight contested games like Port and this one, he doesn't want to know about it which is very un-Melbourne like.

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last
