Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He was our captain then he left for the bigger money at Sydney just when we were getting into finals. Just when we needed him.

He's getting dementia and forgets names of players regularly. Speaking of dementia, I am not sure he was captain when he left. I thought it was Ditterich to Robbie to Greg Healy to Lyon

Any word on may or lever yet?

May has been discharged from hospital according to the boundary rider at Casey on Channel 7. No word on severity. Lever has had scans and awaiting results. Lever is present at Casey along with Gawn and Goody watching from the members balcony so he obviously could climb the stairs.

Yeah it was definitly Greg as captain in the 88 Grand Final I'd have thought.

I just watched the Mitchell post game presser. He was pretty humble about his team getting their pants pulled down.

His smugness came out when he said he thought Petracca wasn’t dominant today..

He’s had bigger games sure, but he walked it out of their “gun” midfield which is supposed to be their 1 wood and made them look like boys!

I’ll never get sick of pumping the dorks! Watching their supporters have nothing to cheer about was the best part for me yesterday.

They were streaming out of the ground at three quarter time. I was laughing internally.

Yep Hawks were almost as dirty as the Lethal days.

Well, no, they weren't that bad. No coward punches behind play to unsuspecting victims. But there was plenty of deliberate physical targeting which the umpires ignored. The one which annoyed me most was one of the brown and yellows cannoning into Max after he had marked in the last quarter. It was clearly late and the Hawk was clearly in it to hurt.

This sort of stuff will continue until the umpires impose a 50 metre penalty. Max clearly expected to be given the 50 which would have put him within scoring distance but the ump was too naive, or stupid, or uncaring to impose it.

The same goes with the regular in game targeting of Max. Notably Max was given a 50 metre penalty last week against the Dog which resulted in a goal. Until they umpire smarter this sniping will continue.

Meanwhile, beating the Hawks never gets old but I was impressed by how much noise their supporters made considering they were never in it. Welcome back Petty - such a smooth operator both ends - and welcome back Fritters' radar.

There have been a few posters on here who have felt we're showing some signs of the selflessness that many saw in 2021 and felt they didn't see enough of in 2022-23.

One effort doesn't define culture or attitude but the Trac defensive goal-line effort yesterday IMO shows more than just Trac's own mindset.

They showed the behind the goals footage of it on the afl.com.au The Round So Far last night. Petty, Rivers, Windsor and TMac can all be seen instantly and instinctively raising their hands in celebration of Trac's effort, and we know Gawn gets straight to him as well.

That acknowledgement from his team-mates is equally as important as Trac's effort in the first place. It certainly supports the proposition that there's something a bit different about us this year, in a good way.

One of my biggest takeaways from yesterday is how good Fritsch is. He's kicked 9 goals in three games and yet he still seems to cop quite a bit of criticism on this site.

This guy will go down as our best forward since Neitz.

Currently 10th on our all time goalkicking ladder, should pass Yze soon and could get the Ox and Greg Wells this year too - I’m not as worried as some about defensive efforts, he knows what his job is

Love to see Fritta get a clear and unencumbered run this year with no injuries.

Presently second on the Coleman medal on 9. Only one behind Hogan.

If we manage 3 goals a game from him it will go along way to helping us to top four again.

If anyone is feeling a little down, go the Big Footy Hawthorn page reviewing the game.  They are a mite unhappy.

And if that doesnt cheer you up, todays was Hawthorns lowest score against Melbourne since 1960.

It makes me happy that we couldn't beat them like that in 1964 or 2021 but it still doesn't compare to when we were on the backend of a decade of mysery and toppled them with Roos at the helm. Then Jordan Lewis switched to us the next year. That game defined where we're now

Yes, Rod Carter did a fine job on him, Gerard thought.

How about Bunghole’s (Dunstall’s) remark after Bayley’s fifth: “I haven’t really noticed Fritsch that much.”

And Dwayne whipping himself into a frenzy after the Hawks’ goal early in the last, then checking himself mid sentence: “And that brings the 32-point margin from quarter time back to . . . 30 points.”

Volume down next time.

Dunstall pondered that Fritsch wanted number 31, after being drafted at pick 31. Then noted, it's odd because it is nit as though 31 is a popular number. Huddo jumped in to remind him that the number 31 is actually quite famous at Melbourne.

I have always admired Dunstalls clarity when analysing games but that Spalding knee to the concaved head could be taking it's toll. It's only natural I suppose. That was a horrific injury and respect as he was one incredible skilful, selfless and tough footballer.

But it's amateurish to commentate on a Melbourne and say that about the 31. Give me the race caller anytime

Yeah and they’ve been frothing over Nick Daicos’ first 50 games being the best first 50 games ever. They forget about players like Jakovich.

But late to this, but it was great to see us play so well. Don’t think hawks will do much this year but it’s good to start our conference early. Petracca was outstanding. Fritch and Kozzie good too.

Worries about the injuries. Hope we can replace them and that they won’t be gone too long. Both are important keys to the team.
Pains me to say but Gawn is looking really slow out there. I’m starting to think he’s coming towards the end of his career

Apparently levers scans were fine today and May has a broken rib and will be out for up to 2 weeks

13th all time averages with 3.85goals per game (min 50 games). Would’ve had a higher average of 4.28 if he never went to Footscray in 96, but also wouldn’t be on the list as he’d be left on 47 games.

Gawn played a blinder and got a huge wrap from Clarkson, always wanted to listen to that presser again.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
