Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

I didn't get to watch the game today.

My worry is the momentum issue that we cannot control.

Five goal lead, then they take the momentum. We have no replies to their goals.

Why couldn't we close it down, or continue scoring?

Was it a lack of ability to read the game or the same old, drink the bath water and believe this is a cruise?

I want us to be ruthless and "put them to the sword" when we are in that position.

The backline sounded like a bit of a rabble. They will get their act together, they hate getting scored against, and 21. 21 from the opposition is a shellacking, which, I hope won't happen again.

Shame the club couldn't stream via their own methods but used a pay for service. Hope they got well reimbursed.

Casey is too difficult to get to by public transport. They need to find a way to include all the supporters of the club.

It wouldn’t be the Club making the Fox coverage it would be the AFL as it is dim match wide. Why should the Club have to arrange their coverage if one exists.

Well I have said for 2/3 years the Vlub should have a supporters bus leaving day the G or In the City on these days as also AFLW and maybe experiment on VFL days when they  don’t clash with our AFL match times. A $20 bus trip both ways should be a good start with families $40 each return perhaps. If you get an overflow  get a second one in tow.

So as to serve more of the clubs supporters. Shouldn't they be encouraging more members, and not just those who can afford to get the doors opened for them.

At least  post the match replay on You Tube or something like this.

My only realistic chance to watch the game was to go to pub at 9.30 in the morning, worse for any WA supporters without the pay vision.

Some, like me struggle with the cost of living.

Seems like you have a gripe against me advocating for equal access for a large percentage of MFC supporters to enjoy the game?

Would you get on that bus?

My advice to the MFC would be to create a members club room for guesr and visitors as well, where they put a stream of the game on for those unable to attend all non free to air games. My preference would be an alcohol free environment.

Steven May played like it was the last 3 minutes of a close game.  Fumble-town.

How can you say that with the way he played on Curnow in the last quarter of the semi final? He was extraordinary, almost carried us to a win

I reckon Viney would’ve played all 7 quarters/periods if they’d let him.

This is not all that far off the truth DZ and is why some players need to be well 'managed' throughout what is a massively long and gruelling season as well as in-game.

Even more so now we have the gather round.

Especially the more mature / senior fellas like Viney, Max, Hunter, ANB, Salo & May, to name a few.

No doubt the FD & sports division is all over this and managing loads on the track etc.

However, i also hope SG & his team have learned from 22 / 23 and use certain matches to ensure the mature fellas get the odd break and freshen them up throughout the season.

Hopefully in full readiness for Sept ...IF we get there.

Whilst giving some valuable minutes and exposure to worthy recipients (who earn the call up) from Casey.

An area i felt was pretty poorly managed last season with too many 'same olds' getting the recall or maintaining their spot even when performance was nowhere near the level required.  In some cases for consecutive weeks or months!

Having a fit & healthy Clarry well in the mix early on will obviously go a long way to helping carry the heavy mid-field loads and rotations required from match to match.

It's a worry we apparently didn't see any CBAs from Rivers today.  Along with many others here i thought some time from him through the middle was well and truly due.

On the flip side maybe the FD aren't seeing the likely replacment for him coming through as we had hoped.  Alternatively they have trialled him on the track and didn't like what they saw so much?

Excellent analysis.

Doesn't bode well imho.

Ol' Simon does like persisting with things long past the point many would have changed course.

Roll on 24...

First half dozen rounds will mark our card yay or nay

Hopefully McQualter will have a fair influence on methods & systems as well as ball movement, transitioning and the modus of delivery coming inside 50 Bubs.

Maybe even a slight say in the manner in which we're defending at times.

I'd also like to see us release the shackles on offence and play with more run, risk a flair/dare this season.

Do we have the skills and high end forward talemt to pull that off though?

We looked far too predictable in this part of our game at times throughout 23 i felt the oppo had us easily worked out much of the time.

The constant bombing and mostly wide to the left pocket plus May almost always kicking out to the left wing targeting Maxy.

A bit of run and carry out of the square wouldn"t hurt at times either?

I reckon we are now a work-in-progress with a minor rebuild required and probably at least another two to three seasons away from getting ourselves back into a position to make another prelim.  Especially given the injury interruptions to so many forwards to this point.

So what do we think about Kynan Brown? Personally, I did not think he looked out of place at all. With another good showing against Carlton, do we think he’s a genuine opening round chance despite his very small frame?

I thought we looked pretty average. There was certainly a more aggressive mindset and our defence suffered. Don’t think I can remember having so many opponents getting free out the back like today.

Not sure what we will offer.

The thing that struck me was how easily we were beaten out of the middle. Same old I guess. Oh I did not see all of thegame.

Yes but at the same time Max limited, Trac also slightly limited and no clarry or Brayshaw. Kozzie as always just seemed to walk through the contest and come out with the ball when put in the middle

Kozzie was playing Hollywood football. Twisting, turning, ducking and weaving, and then completely butchering his kicks. He actually became a liability and was extremely selfish. He needs to execute the basics

Probably the best description of his footy I've read. Nails it. All froth and bubble.

If he were a beer he'd need a straw and cherry on top.

Just as you assert he needs to focus on the football first, flamboyance second.

He's a rare talent. He's squandering it presently. It's actually quite annoying

Nah there's no way we got some square heads in here crying over a pre season game in Feb 😐

No one's crying...  and no one particularly cares for snotty glib  sarcy rubbish as that either.

Not everyone needs to have a Mack truck 4 feet from them to understand where they are may not be the best place.

Some things can be seen a mile away...  and that allows you to do something.

Without doubt there were many and varied 'experiments' and trials played out yesterday.

I would suggest almost all failed. That in and of itself can be a positive if the yeah-nahh rule is applied.

That was Richmond.... a team without ( on paper) the same prospects as us. They had at least half a dozen of their top dozen players missing..  they're still getting used to a new coach,  new ways.... and they made us look very ordinary..

On a day when much is tried I struggled to see or identify anything...ANYTHING...that made me think...  yeah...that's working....needs work, but has promise.

It was a 2023 dogs breakfast , chucked up and dished out.

I firmly hope the game against Carlton is better, and more representative of our true intents this year.

Wouldn't be holding my breath for a better showing against Carlton, who from all reports have had just about the best pre season in the history of the sport. Could actually be a bit ugly

Looking forward to heading down to the old Optus Oval and missing a quarter waiting for my $26 souvlaki

Didn’t see the game but having read the comments, you can put whatever spin you want on it….

- It’s only practice match

- Both coaches weren’t showing their hand

- Key players only played part of the match

- We had key players out

Richmond had their fair share of players out too but there is no excusing poor disposal.

Wasn’t too bad. Need to get Windsor and Kolt up to 20 games ASAP. Look for improvement in the back half of the season this year. Hopefully young players come on and we pop a bit. If we’re about 7-7 after 14 rounds I wouldn’t be stressing.

I reckon Laurie will be a player. Need to get him to 20 games too.

Troy Chaplin said they were focusing on other parts of the game not on the fwd line

What parts was he referring to? Surely the answer can’t be just the fwd handball game.
What made Richmond so dominant in their recent premiership years was their manic ball movement, and quick delivery inside 50, then quickly spotting up someone in a better position. At times it seemed the plan was no plan, get it in quickly and put the opposition under pressure. Having some gun KPF and crafty smalls helped. In many ways that’s what Collingwood did last year.

Sounds like a good idea KM.

 I'm all for free drinks.

But seriously I do wonder if the cost of living will impact crowd numbers this year.

I'm feeling it too.

I used to go to the Bentleigh club when in town as it was a cheaper alternative.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
