I thought we looked pretty average. There was certainly a more aggressive mindset and our defence suffered. Don’t think I can remember having so many opponents getting free out the back like today.
The media are probably right about us, we are intriguing this year.

Not sure what we will offer.

On the newbies I like Brown and Billings will be a handy addition.

Im hoping Fullarton will be available for a run before the season starts.

I looked at this game as nothing more than a practice game with no telling result.

Was more interested in the young ens  Brown did very well, Windsor and Vennell didnt dissapoint.

Hore not ready, Billings will improve with another couple of games.

I find these statements amusing. One could be said about our opponent - they have a new coach with a new plan and arguably more impactful players missing. They have all the more reason to lose this praccy game.

Don’t think Richmond would care all that much if they lost. They would just work on things to get better.

Statements like premiership window closed and Goodwin will be under real pressure by R5 after watching our first hit out are amusing.

I read somewhere that Fullerton and BBB are possible inclusions for the next praccy game

My main observation is that we don’t have the skill to be a fast ball movement team. Boundary and pack based play with f50 territory will be 1 wood.

Windsor, Brown look good but will take 1-2 years to really acclimate, but I think they’ll add to our team.

Rivers, Laurie, Billings, Tomo, May,ANB, Fritta, Langdon were disappointing today.

I think Goodwin will be sweating after first 5 rounds.

Dont understand the negatives on Billings, he was very good today!

From the AFL website, I think they are jumping the gun on 2025 free agency here. Sigh.

... Tom McDonald, Lachie Hunter, Shane McAdam (all calf injuries),  Andy Brayshaw (illness), Charlie Spargo (Achilles soreness), Harrison Petty (toe), Ben Brown (knee), Daniel Turner (femur), Taj Woewodin (concussion) and Andy Moniz-Wakefiled (thigh) all missing.

To me it was the sameness to what we were poor at in the past that was disappointing. There was nothing fresh about any of the plays. There were some different combinations in positions. But not better outcomes than the a team. Positive is if they work on creating their own tempo and be less manic the skills should improve.

'Intriguing' is way too kind.

Suffice we didn't give away any "secrets" today but certainly camouflaged any improvements.

We're about to see a lot of teams fly past us if we dont bring to bear all the "lessons" from today.

All the effort of flash 'reels" and colourful media is moot....... if you can't  kick or mark.

Not thinking those Lygon St Louts will be much worried.

Crossed fingers and toes we are much better than today or it will be a long long season.....without worrying about a straight sets exit.

There's trackwork......and there's reality.

Need to sharpen up some.

Go Dees

I spoke with a media footy person this week who said we were the mystery of 2024. They wouldn’t be surprised if we won the flag OR finished 10th and sacked Goody half way……

Good grief.

Its started already. Season over before R1 has even been played. No skills no new moves inside 50 . Recruits are a bust.

I didnt realise you had to peak in February to be a chance for the flag in late Sept or even early October.

Maybe I'll play golf instead this season.

Only joking  i hate golf. lol

Relax. I'll wait and see how we go against the Swans. Our last H &A game was the same team and ground. We creamed them.

The main issue today was poor kicking and handball.

We're clearly trying to play faster and use the corridor, but you get torched on the rebound when you turn it over, as we did today.

Last year we lacked some dare, but had a fantastic all ground defence, which is why teams found it hard to move the ball against us.  Think of Collingwood only having 39 inside 50s in the final and their struggle to move the ball forward on KB.  In general play we dominated Carlton, but didn't close the door.

We didn't get our tweaked game-plan right today and lost momentum.  Richmond kicked it far better.

They'll learn a lot from the hitout.

Oliver and Salem the big pluses from the second game.

Kynan Brown surprised me.  He looks very promising.

If you stopped the game after 20 mins we would be revelling in the glory of it all.  We gave up 9 or 10 goals in a row to put ourselves in the downward dog position.

Liked that Max did only a half, we had a whole lot of new faces halving a crack, and we were rusty across the board.  If we did better on the two way running and defended inside the 50 better, ot would have looked.  Very different.  Seemed p1 was about our transition, then we tried a few things.

Oliver and Salem a class above in the late periods.

Still glass half full.

I don’t think the score line matters (except the “apprentice” would be within his rights to gloat a bit to the “Master”). What does matter if anyone here was able to pick out how we overcame the issues we had last year - which any good coach would be aiming to fix, surely.

Forward entry / connection? - anyone notice any changes or improvements?

Ball handling and kicking skills? - improvement?

Center connection and clearances? - again, improvements?

I didn’t see all of the match, but from what I did see, I couldn’t recognise any real improvements or system changes at all. So please convince me we did!
Otherwise, given the way I saw the tigers play, I  might wish that we had hung onto the “apprentice” - who, given time, might well become the “Master”.

This time last year we were smashing teams, flying out of the gate like a bull to a red rag.

Lets see if a change in approach yields different results later on in the year.

Youngsters show alot of promise great hit out, no injuries, Premiership aren't won in February.

I didn't get to watch the game today.

My worry is the momentum issue that we cannot control.

Five goal lead, then they take the momentum. We have no replies to their goals.

Why couldn't we close it down, or continue scoring?

Was it a lack of ability to read the game or the same old, drink the bath water and believe this is a cruise?

I want us to be ruthless and "put them to the sword" when we are in that position.

The backline sounded like a bit of a rabble. They will get their act together, they hate getting scored against, and 21. 21 from the opposition is a shellacking, which, I hope won't happen again.

Shame the club couldn't stream via their own methods but used a pay for service. Hope they got well reimbursed.

Casey is too difficult to get to by public transport. They need to find a way to include all the supporters of the club.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
