Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Nope wasn’t asked. But isn’t Tom’s foot injury one that will constantly have to be managed? Bit like BBB,s knee. Hopefully they have it cherry ripe for a 6 week period.

That may well be right. I still think it's the sort of question that should be asked instead of the base level nonsense that most sports "journalists" participate in. Goodwin would then have had the opportunity to explain why. It may have been injury management, it might have been a view that the club believed McDonald was never going to be physically better than he was at the time (now proven to be wrong, if we accept Goodwin's description) or that there was no-one else available so they had to play him injured.

Hope so too.

He's really our only option though. How stuffed would we be without Fritta back. To step back in after such a long absence and boot five shows the class and caliber of the bloke

I'm not sure of the right thread to make this comment, but how ludicrous is the AFL's scheduling for the first week of finals? There are three night games all being played in the same time zone yet each starts at a different time. Our game starts at 7.20pm, the Friday game at 7.50pm and the Saturday game at 7.25pm.

You can argue the merits of each time, but surely every night game in the same time zone (and two of them at the same ground) should start at the same time.

And besides, the g is our bloody home ground.

The johnny come lately squatters should [censored] off and get their own home ground.

…….. and we can then use the ‘G’ as our new training base.

It may or may not have been popped....but to me...a highly qualified tv watcher...therefore knows 2/3 of 3/5 of sfa...  he was favouring it...the exact way you would if popped....but at the same time it might well have been a doozy of a stinger as some suggest.

Anyone know officially what transpired ??

I have no idea but perhaps they operated on the sidelines like they have with the Jack the beast a few times.

If they are trying maximise viewers the first rule would be don't confuse the viewers with different starting times

It's not really about the opposition though, it's about his freedom of movement.  We know he can compete strongly at the top level if he has that.

@WalkingCivilWar said the Demon Army will be at the City end

I was mistaken, DD. So sorry for any confusion. We’ll be at the Punt Rd end in M3 where we sit for home games. This is a Collingwood home game but I forgot that they love their City end Bay (M33) regardless of whose home game it is. And we don’t wanna upset the Magpies cheer squad now, do we? 😁

He has the turning circle of the Queen Mary, as does BBB

True, but can he run and jump at the ball? At his best he can, at his most compromised he can't.  He will have been able to show this at VFL level.

Honestly if we get a 6/10 T-mac that might be enough. We don't need him getting 20 possessions, 10 marks and 4 goals a game. We need him to provide a foil and make defenders accountable enough by pulling them out of position, if he can contest and help get the ball to ground a bit too that will help.

Personnel might be altered... game styles are the key.

Their biggest out is Daicos. The man who orchestrates the angles...as it were.

Their game relies on swarming ( running with intent and backup ) .  They dont bomb away... they pick their way through.  Hawthorn tried that too.

We'll have to be on our guard and on our toes.

I wonder how the 'learnings' dept is preparing for this game.....

I back our style and brand over there's for finals and I do think Daicos is more important to them than anyone has been for us ATM. should be a great game though

It's about him taking the number 1 defender to release JVR and Fritta.

JVR was playing on Sydney's best defender in Tom McCartin and I think it's fair to say Van Rooyen would have learnt a big lesson.

McCartin is a gun defender and I think Tmac coming in to take their best defender has a positive domino effect on Rooey and Fritsch.

Yep. This is the pass mark for T-mac, take the best defender and keep them honest with a few things to think about.  I'm really confident that if he is at least moving the best he has all year that he can do this.

We can't have JVR dealing with the best defender all game long.

Moore will come in for Frampton which then leaves JVR to take their next best defender and that's Jeremy Howe..

What a gold match up! Howe hates body contact and prefers to sit off and fly for a mark. I'd back JVR to easily put body Howe in a one on one contest.

We suffocated them on king’s birthday and nothing I’ve seen from them since suggests to me they’ll be able to break our shackles.

we’ll strangle them again.

They have Moore, Murphy, Howe and Frampton as tall/ish options down back

If tmac plays, I can see Murphy on him, Moore on JVR, Howe on Fritter

Reckon Smithy will be the wildcard

Such a shame about Melky, he would've been perfect as a defensive forward on Moore

Smith starts and takes Mark of the century on Howes head lol.

I think it will be TMac in for Melky definitely just have to see how Bowser and Fritta pull up before deciding on any other changes.

Reckon they'll play daicos?

Tmac circa early 21 is a total game changer.

Would love to see this.

It's been a long time though.

But we desperately need him to step up.

Tbh... id take an 80% 21 ver Tmac..   that will do...any better a bonus.

He knows what he's doing out there.

....and he can kick .....that sorta helps a bit lol

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
