Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

can the panel please discuss the Kozzy situation ?

can’t help but think he is well down on form and perhaps confidence due to his lack out possessions and output .

seems to be disinterested in chasing at times .

never would have thought this was even something we’d have to consider but does he need some time at Casey to find some form and spark ?

I thought James Jordon played one of his  best games for the club. He is way too good for Casey and I really hope he gets a good crack at it especially whilst Clarrie is out. Hope they can find a spot for him later in the season.

Moving Trac forward worked this week. Helped that he kicked two opportunistic goals and was a dead eye for the two set shots.

But are we robbing Peter to pay Paul and losing his grunt in the midfield?

Do you have any stats on his percentage of time in the midfield and forward line?

Until we can clone him what do you guys think is our best use of Trac?

Thoughts on our selection for the Saints game and opting to go small up forward. I would ideally love to have both Ben Brown and JVR in the forward line working together. Melksham played his role and perhaps he can somewhat fill the Fritsch role in the next few weeks. Neither Brown nor Melk laid a tackle though but that’s to be expected.

Still not convinced our rucks offer us anything resting up forward.

What is our best forward setup going on to the run home?

Forward connection and accuracy was a lot better this week.

Any concerns that the victory was aided by the fact that the Saints were 3 men down from quarter time?

I'd say it was a big concern. Despite the Saints only having two on the Bench for most to the match they won the Inside 50 count by 6, Overall Possessions by 26, Contested Possession by 8 and despite winning the Hitouts by 21 we broke even at the Stoppages.

Imagine what would have happened if those 3 Saints players didn't go down and they weren't wasteful in their possession and timid in taking the game on.

I'll absolutely take the 4 points and there were some minor improvements in our game but we were by no means impressive considering the carnage on the Saints bench.

Thank god you guys are back I needed some therapy after last weeks devastating loss in the Alice and I had no podcast to provide me solace. Appreciate the mini pod you provided though. Thanks Andy and Binman.

What did you guys think of Woey Jnrs game? I thought he did a few nice things with his 12 possessions which incidentally was the same amount as Nibbler and 1 more than Brown and Spargo, 2 more than Melksham and 8 more than Kozzy. I was willing that goal home as much as anybody. I really hope they don't just dump him after one match as we often do.

Love the panels thoughts on Taj Woewodin’s debut.

Taj had several goal assists/involvements and one near miss of his own that looked great off the boot.

His hand and foot skills reminded me of the poise of McVee.

Personally I’d love to see him get another game against the Lions.

Thoughts on the Grawndy experiment up forward. It's just not working for mine. Neither of them is contributing much up forward and seem to clog up the forward line at times. I would prefer we play another genuine tall up forward instead and rest the ruckman on the bench or a kick behind the ball.

Despite winning the Hitouts I thought they both lowered their colours against Marshall around the ground this week.  30 disposals, 10 marks, 7 inside 50s and 7 intercepts. Comnbined Grawndy had 29 disposals, 9 marks, 6 inside 50s and 0 intercepts.

Welcome back from your Podcast Bye. I hope your loading period is behind you now and you're all fresh for the run home and into finals.

In terms of matchups for the upcoming match against the Lions on Friday night who do you think will get the gig on Charlie Cameron? It doesn't sound like Hibbo will be back this week so who of the players available is a good match up for Charlie?

How concerned should we be about not being ahead in contested possessions and clearances? CPs particularly used to be our "one wood" -- is that still the case?

We played a strong defensive unit and managed to win.

interested in your thoughts on the style change this week- it looked like we started with manic running and handball.  Saints broke this down and we began to shift tempo using more kicks and control.  Is this part of us practicing for finals?

max and reg (Grundy)?  Are we getting enough out of this?

i think Schache comes in this week.

cheers, gents.  Look forward to the poddy as usual.

Lions are notoriously weaker at the G. But we're not at our best, and were still missing Clarry.

Keen to hear what the pannel sees as the key to winning this match. If it's the midfield,  can we afford to play Trac in the guts or is that robbing us of the most likely goal scoring option with no Fritsch. Seems to be a conundrum!

5 talking points

1. The Good.
Steven May -outstanding.

Petracca -4 goals straight (two running into goal mouth).

Viney was again a soldier at the footy

Salem 150 games.  👋👋

Taj’s debut was good enough for another game.
Mcvee very solid again

JJ is a needed player and he’s run and skill was very good.

but other topics to discuss

2- Kozzzy.  Yes it’s all across the media. He kind of looked disinterested at times on Saturday night.  4 possessions. 3 tackles. Chased but often wasn’t going 100%. Wanganeen-Milera waltzed around unmanned mostly.  Must be something nqr. We love him ❤️❤️❤️and need he’s excitement and scoring power to threaten

3- Gawn and Grundy. It’s not really the ace in the pack expected.  Neither are taking a contested mark inside forward 50. Grundy cannot seem to take a contested mark at all. Max seems to be short changed in time in ruck.  Max is definitely best ruck option for us and needs more time imv. Question - is it their form or a problem with the structure?

4- Foreward effectiveness still a work in progress.
No Fritsch for at least remainder of home and away season.
BBB. He looked shot in the second half. Couldn’t run in the last quarter.  He will have to be managed on a weekly basis. Melksham ok but defensively was poor.
Kozzy out of form.
Spargo offers little in scoring.
ANB averages 0.7goals/game.
Do we play Trac forward to compensate, and use him 50/50 mid forward rotation?

5- Are we a defensive team that is scared of using the corridor?  We looked good in the 4-5 goals with passages through the middle. But mostly this running play was hardly seen as we went slow and kicked to contest after contest.  Our scoring gets restricted and ultimately keeps our scoring ability low.  Question: is it our skills or lack thereof (or outright defensive mindset) that means we are scared to play the corridor more (in case of turnovers?).

Because we lost time in forward half this week we seemed to have more space when we did go forward and easier avenues to goal. Is there a flaw in our game plan that when we win time in forward half its to congested to score?

Like so many others I am very concerned re Kozzie - he seems to have lost all confidence since his suspension round 1.  Appears to (though doubt he has) have lost passion and fire.

Is there a nagging injury (more than most players usually carry through the season) or something bugging him?

(And as a pedant, those who refer to him as disinterested - I suspect they mean uninterested.)

2/

Can we really carry two rucks when neither seem to click up forward when "resting"?  I realise that Max had a stellar 2021 September up forward but that whole period was no doubt adrenaline driven and success lead to success.  That magic hasn't been repeated - yet!

Seems like JVR could do second ruck work especially up forward, though some will no doubt feel that Schache deserves a spot.  Thoughts?

PS needless to say I just love the podcast - thanks to you all.

PPS - are we still loading, binman? 🤔😁

An alternative approach to the Gawn Grundy experiment is to rotate them week to week to ensure that Max doesn’t end up banged up again this year.

Max is getting old and we need to do whatever it takes to have him at his peak in the finals.

what do we think?

I’d rather see JVR come in and play then connecting CHF role on the wind.

I don’t have enough fingers to count the amount of times we kicked to Spargo/ANB/Melksham on the wing.

Hi Gents

What are your thoughts on our fwd line talls.  Personally i think we need to play BBB and JVR, happy for JVR to get the couple of weeks rest he needs but i think he is our best fit for the end of the season.

I also believe the 1 tall is contributing to our crumbing smalls struggles, very easy for the opposition to know where the ball is going to fall, and all our small and med size forwards head to that spot dragging their man to the area and creating congestion.

A few other things we need to tidy up, hand balling is atrocious and all are guilty.  And whilst Petracca was great up forward, we need him in the middle.  God we miss Clarry for the team balance and his super high standards.

Podcast won't be up until tomorrow morning (possibly mid morning) as I have to do a bit of post production work.

Usually I am able to just take the mix recorded into my mixer from the audio over the internet but as i had some choppy internet connection at home my cohosts were breaking up every now and again and it would not be a good listen. Anyone who listened live would have heard what it sounded like.

Luckily I have multiple recordings and one of those is the recordings of my cohosts that is recorded locally on their machines. I don't usually use that mix as it takes longer for me to put together and is only used in cases like this.

I won't be able to work on that until the morning now so the final product won't be available until then.

Apologies.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
