Kynan finished the game with 20 disposals 7 tackles and 5 clearences.

I only watched bits of the first half. Anyone know how he went for the rest of the game?

I was actually impressed by his kicking inside 50. Laced out three passes, two resulting with shots on goal and the other Caddy dropped an absolute sitter with no pressure and literally hit him on the chest.

He will take a couple of seasons to get an AFL body, but can see him replacing Hunter quite easily in a wing role.

North Melbourne making a move to have Sanders included in its NGA and for an exemption to the rule preventing Victorian clubs from bidding for top 40 players as a concession from the AFL.

As if the draft wasn’t already heavily compromised!

sounds like a draft we should be bailing on, imo. we're tight as for spots even compared to next year with age profile and importance of the ooc players. and we should be looking to move our early picks to then. aside from Reid, Walter, Mckercher, Sanders i'm not very impressed by first round. Watson has been decent but Caddy and Duursma are flashy and i worry about consistency and how it transfers to afl level. also the entire Vic Metro midfield was bottom agers this season so next year looks the way to go

Harley Reid would be ideal. But there's no way he lasts past pick 2 or 3. North Melbourne and Hawthorn would definitely snap him up if West Coast didn't.

I think ifif Harley Reid has told Weagles he doesn't want to play there, they would be open to trading pick 1 to get as full value as possible. i.e effectively trading for Reid. If we had pick 4 its not out of the question we could get him. If Reid is head and shoulders above the rest that is.

I think the Eagles were open to trading anyway with Curtin highly likely to be in their thoughts.

If he continues to blitz in midfield for Claremont (another 27 touches in his first game post champs) pick 4 may not be high enough!

Who ever we take with Freo's (or should our) first AFL Draft pick needs to be an elite kick and elite talent.

Elite kicking and elite decision making you can never have too much of in an AFL team. The Melbourne Demons still needs to remedy these deficiencies. Particularly with our connection into the forwardline.

Harley Reid would be ideal. But there's no way he lasts past pick 2 or 3. North Melbourne and Hawthorn would definitely snap him up if West Coast didn't.

I am also concerned about the risk of taking Tasmanian pair Colby McKercer (who is very impressive) and Ryley Sanders. Primarily due to the impending introduction of a Tasmanian AFL team. But that is to be expected.

My possible future draftees for the Demons would be one of Nate Caddy (Northern Knights), Zane Duursma (Gippsland Power), Nick "The Wizard" Watson (Eastern Ranges) and Darcy Wilson (Murray Bushrangers).

Anyway, no point speculating too much until the end of the season. There's plenty of time to worry about the 2023 AFL Draft in October onward.

If we could somehow trade to 1, great we take Reid. However, I really like Mckercher and one of Watson & Curtin if we can't trade up, but somehow trade into the top 10.

A half back called Hardeman...

Memories

What does the kid play like and is he a relation?

Captained WA Under 18s. He’s a taller half back, nice run, skilled left footer.  I like his style and I think whilst he’s a half back, he could even develop as an onballer.  Riley Hardeman definitely on JTs list.

He looked a bit tired second half, think the big pre season the championships and the quick turnaround straight into club footy (game week) the day after caught up with him. All the state boys looked a little sore last weekend.

Be interesting to see how they go this weekend. I’ll be watching Claremont vs West Perth so will see a few of this, next year’s and a couple of 2025 crop playing

Fair chance West Coast will trade their number one pick to us, right? They'll want the safe bet of Curtin who will fall around our pick (five or six) We can swap our first and throw in a second rounder.

Done deal!

and the rest

it'll be 'highest bidder wins'

i reckon we'll happily throw three first rounders - flagmantle's first, our first in 2023, our first in 2024 - for pick 1 and spare change

Our 3 x 1sts would be about 4, 16 and 16 (2024).

Still have Freo's 22 and our second plus later picks. Doubt we'll use four picks (4, 16, 22, 34) plus a late pick on young Brown

For Jake Lever we paid 2 x 1st (10 and 16, I think)

Pick 1 swapped for 4, 16, 16 isn't that bad a deal if Tayor considers Reid to be the stand out best player.

So, Reid, picks 22 & 34 and Brown. Not bad.

Imagine Reid developing alongside Tracc and Max 😉

Not bad, but I had a dream of McKerchin or Duursma delivering the ball lace out to JVR with Watson at his feet…….there was movement. Much rather use this draft to fill a few needs than go all chips in on Reid. We need to sort out delivery / connection from midfield to forward line and to have an absolute sniper that scores goals for fun and has some serious X factor.

Sounds like you are describing Reid!

Think it will be a moot point, reckon if 1 is traded it will end up at gws. The AFL will love that

There are so many permutations and don’t count the dogs out of pushing up the board either. Or the Suns to take pick 1 if they think they are in with a shot. As much as I love Watson and Dursmaa and McKercher, Reid is so far about everyone bar Jed Walter (which there is still a gap). His best is still the best we’ve seen in underage footy since maybe Walsh? Maybe as far back as Trac? Honestly probably had a better 2 years underage than both of them.

I’d love 2 picks inside 7 - but if we walk away with Reid and a 20 something pick, I’m smiling come round 1. Imagine Daicos in our centre square - just give up trying to tag someone.

But we got their pick 2 in return, which we turned into Petty, plus pick 3 which ended up in a package that got us Jordan or Sparrow.

How did Duursma go at Casey yesterday?

Eking conditions into account.

Only saw him a few times (I only watched in patches though). He has the class. Good overhead mark. Doesn’t seem to be a high possession type midfielder but I can imagine our midfield bulls getting the ball out to his run and delivery inside 50 or kick through the majors.  A safe pick but not the new generation mid to assist Clarry and Trac.

Claremont vs West Perth Colts yesterday

Curtin - just an okay game, played mid rotating forward. Not as many possessions as usual but still showed plenty with his ball use and clearance work. Did get caught HTB on a few occasions trying to fend off. One of his strengths is absorbing heat and standing up in tackles to feed the outside runners. Did it on a few occasions yesterday

Bailey Banfield - FS eligible to West Coast, BOG strong in the contest and drove away from the contests with explosive strength and went direct to beat West Perth pushing numbers to the contest

Dehaviland - like Banfield really strong in the contest and worked really hard all day. Used the ball well at times but should have had more scoreboard impact

SVR - A nearly game, flew at a few and just didn’t reel them in, kicked 1 but was involved in a few more with score assists. Jumped at times when he impacted his teammates when the better option is to stay down and block

Odin Jones - ruck, really good with his tap work and kicked a couple when resting forward, but also impacted Curtin’s marking ability in transition by planting himself near enough to impact as 3rd man up

Peter Young - 2025 draft really impressive with his leading patterns, workrate and attack on the contest. Played CHF and at only 15 going to be one to watch

So we have picks 4, 15, 23, 33, 51

Curtin will be pick 4 too hard to pass up on. 15 I'd go with Hardeman I think we need a running half back. 23 go with best midfielder available in Simpson. and 34 Luol. 51 Brown

The players I see leaving Melbourne at the end of the year are Tomlinson, Harmes, Jordon, Hibberd and Dunstan.

Hoping we can parlay pick 4 and our other top picks including possibly future round 1 into 2023 pick 1 for Reid, leaving us with 23 as well, a later pick or rookie for Kynan Brown plus Orlando Turner as a rookie selection. That gives us a very solid draft plus we still have some untried talent like Jefferson, Howes, Adams, Sestan, Moniz-Wakefield, Deakyn Smith and Will Verrall coming through the ranks at Casey.

I thought we had pick 51 must have given it away. If no one bids on Brown for the top 60 picks then we automatically pick Brown up with pick 89.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
