Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Yes, you can so easily identify what other teams were able to do during finals, (ie, copy our game plan lol) and also point out that we lost those games due to poor field kicking, poor kicking inside 50 and inaccuracy in front of goal.. (something that has killed us for years in games that we 'should have' won)

But.

You refuse to list what Goodwin should be doing about that from a list point of view? Or do you not think it's an inherent problem due to the personnel we play in certain positions?

Why do you think this trend of poor kicking both in general play, going inside 50 and then shots on goal in general play exists mainly, if it's not personnel?

I refuse to list what Goodwin should be doing about that from a list point of view?

Refuse? Refuse who?  You?

You seem to paint anyone who sees things in more positive light than you in such black and whiter terms. And paint yourself as clear eyed and able to see what noobs such as myself are too blindly loyal to see. As if i do nothing but praise the club and refuse to see or acknowledge any weaknesses.

(by the by, i don't think other clubs 'copied our game plan' and have never said they have. I HAVE said on many occasions that we copied the Tigers game plan and that the model developed by Hardwick is the template for the way the game is now played).

C'mon Jimmy such reductive, black and white nonsense is so puerile. It is why i don't bother engaging in any meaningful discussion with you any more.

You don't seem to be interested in genuine discussion. You seem to prefer baiting, being obtuse and unnecessarily contrarian. It's tiresome. But each to their own i guess.

But i'll bite this time.

So, to your point about me 'refusing' to 'list what Goodwin should be doing about that from a list point of view'.

For one thing, if you had been paying attention, i have banging on about our poor kicking skills ever since i started posting on DL 13 years ago.

And more recently i have addressed what i see as our key list needs on multiple occasions.

For example, for your reading pleasure please see these three recent examples (let me know if you want some more):

If we use 6 and 11 on guys who can contribute something in year 1 then we’ll have 32 guys who can contribute which is a fair number.

Unless we draft a ready to go type like Sanders a capable on baller or wing and a back pocket would be the 2 positions I’d be searching the delistings/state leagues for in terms of immediate depth - JJ and Hibberd replacements. As well as swapping out at least one of the tall forwards for a mature ruck.

We have pick 41 also.

I'm hoping we pick Sanders up at 6 and O'Sullivan at 11 not sure who we should pick with 41 hopefully a running half back any suggestions Spence? Expecting to pick K.Brown as a rookie.

Expecting crows to come in at the last with a bigger offer.  If he stayed injury free this year I think we win the flag and he could be that important again next year.
But there’s the sort of smoke only a bushfire can create now. We saw how Jackson performed once his head had been turned and it’s becoming very obvious that Pettys  head has been turned more than Doggas was.

Just a thought...

With our disposal being so poor into the forwardline, how about using Bowey or Salem as a HFF.   They are boh excellent users / kicks usually.    I also think we really need to look at our wingman's kicking...  I don't want to see Langdon kicking a ball more than 15m high into our fwd line ever again.

Worth considering.

Someone suggested getting mcvee on ball, or perhaps as a winger/utility, which i reckon has a lot of merit. With his poise and beautiful foot skills (our best kick this season?) the forwards would love him having that last kick inside 50.

Not really a trade rumours post but I feel it's important to add here when discussing our tactics going into the draft.

Players out:

Senior list - Grundy, Hibberd, Dunstan, Jordon, Harmes (r) D.Smith

We've added McAdam, Fullertan and D.Turner to be upgraded with our last NDP, leaving us with 2 available senior spots for the draft which means we're hoping Brown can be picked up as a Rookie. This is how I see the draft playing out not including Academy and F/S selections:

1. West Coast - Reid

2. N.Melbourne - Curtin (They have no elite key Defenders)

3. N.Melbourne - McKercher (Best available Mid)

4. Hawthorn - Duursma (Lacking Fwd/mid options)

5. Western Bulldogs - Watson (Need a small forward to compliment Weightman)

6. Melbourne - O'Sullivan (May Replacement for an elite Defender in a couple of years)

7. GWS - Sanders (They require more mids after losing Taranto and Hopper and drafted a KPD Leek Aleer last year)

8. Geelong - Caddy ( Rohan replacement who plays Fwd/Mid)

9. Essenden - Best available... maybe Murphy or Wilson

10. Adelaide - Best available... maybe Will McCabe who need another key defender and is from SA

11. Melbourne - Best available... I think we are right into James Leake who is a great size and strong hands allowing Rivers to push into the midfield next year.

Let's not forget we have pick 42 which becomes a pick in the low 30's once all Gold Coast picks are used up on the academy players which is a valuable pick. We may look to trade that pick out for a future second next year as we have no need for it based on list spots.

As a rookie option I'd love Melbourne to go after Sam Van Rooyen just to keep his brother happy in the Red and Blue. And who knows he may be a handy player for us in a couple of years.

Watson and O’Sullivan flipped for mine based on needs (surely Dogs can’t risk having another bloke St Kilda players could potentially set alight).

Pickett, Chandler, ANB, Spargo, AMW, Laurie... we are well and truly stacked for small forward options. Spargo even requested a trade due to lack of games with Chandler cementing his spot. Melbourne has learnt from the Bedford fiasco that we have to get games into these players to keep them happy. I know this Watson is the so called 'Wizard' but really we have no need for him. O'Sullivan is much more of a crucial addition to our list. May has 2-3 years in him, Tomlinson similar and I can assure you he will get a lot of games next year. We then have Turner and Adams as our young KPD who are good but not elite. If you want to contend beyond 2025 then we need to look at elite talent to hold key position end.

Petty may be out the door in 1 - 2 years according to many media sources, which is why we can't give up our future first to land Reid this year. We are chasing a gun key forward next year with the cap space we have cleared. So this year we will lock up our Defence with O'Sullivan or Murphy assuming Curtin is taken and then get in a good Mid option to cover our losses but Leake is definitely in our framework. After that we will be chasing a gun key forward in 2024 Ala King or similar to be right in the hunt for a premiership in 2025/26 which realistically I believe we can achieve. It really depends on Petty if we can win a flag next year, which is why Melbourne is so keen to hold onto him.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
