Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

the only reason people are saying this years draft is shallow is because they have only seen these kids play this year,

These guys are paid scouting professionals who have watched a LOT of underage footy over many years.  Their employers make significant decisions based on their intel. If they are saying it is shallow then it is probably shallow

That we will only use 2 picks in a supposed ‘shallow’ draft might be a good thing.

Given the amount of untried talent on the list, with 2 regular best 22's just added and another 3-5 changes next year, that is very understandable.

PMBangers from Bigfooty who is a pretty keen drafter watcher did an upgraded phantom draft over the weekend.

Pick 15 - Melbourne - Matthew Jefferson
Oakleigh Chargers | VIC Metro
Tall Forward
195 cm 84 kg
Snapshot;
A low possession but high impact key forward, Jefferson rarely goes a game without impacting the scoreboard. Although he plays closer to goal most of the time he's shown a good capacity as a tall that can push up the ground and help more with link up play. His marking is his biggest strength, even without being super strong as it stands he's a good one-on-one mark and displays solid body work

Rationale; They need a young KPF to pair with JVR in the long run, and the styles of the two would compliment each other well. I think with Melbourne's game style a player like Jefferson that can take some ridiculous marks and smart leads will thrive with their ball movement forward and damage in transition where he could get one-on-one inside 50

Considerations; There's interest in Ed Allan and this is probably the first pick of the draft I think the club will actively be trying to trade up with. The next couple of picks in Olli Hotton and Jacob Konstanty might be of interest, as might Lachlan Cowan with Jayden Hunt leaving and other options getting older. Elijah Hewett plays like a Melbourne player as well

The top 10 are narrowed down by the experts and the draftee’s ability to perform throughout the gruelling process.  Players fall out of top 10 contention due to injury, loss of form at critical periods, poor interview technique, immaturity, etc. Pick 13 is a very good pick it provides a lot of flexibility for the recruitment team, to fill an urgent need or best available. Best available will net you a great player but they may not be able to help solve the teams real issues. To address a need also comes with risks but a huge hole opened up for us when Tom went down and our inability to address this glaring issue Cost us dearly in both finals. What a conundrum for TL & JT.!!!

Is he suggesting we take Jefferson at 13, and trade up for Allan too?

Hollands, Phillipou, Hewitt and Jefferson in that order for me. Allan as the wildcard.  Not sure any others from the top 10 will drop down.  If no other club did before our pick,  I think we’d put a bid on Jaspa Fletcher , to make sure Lions pay a high price for their second father son pick.

Just watched the Herald Sun Mock Draft. Predictably, they had us taking Jefferson at 14. Ed Allan was picked with West Coast's second pick. They had Hewitt going at the last pick of the 1st round.

Maybe that’s why I’m so keen on him! 🤣

I’d love Philipou, but seems like he’ll be gone for our pick. Could be gone as early as pick 5 now.

9. Ginbey (Eagles)
10. Mackenzie (St Kilda)
11. Busslinger (Carlton)
12. Hollands (Bulldogs)
13. Allan (Eagles)
14. Jefferson (Melbourne)
15. Weddle (Sydney)
16. George (GWS)

The relevant section of the HS phantom draft. I still think trade up is a possibility but increasingly unlikely. Trade down for an early 20’s pick quite possible. Weddle, George and Jefferson all have similar merit  if we stick to the original pick.

The Herald Sun have previously stated that we have interest in Allan too, amongst a group of other clubs.

Did you watch the second round or is it readily accessible? Interested to see who they had us taking at our second pick and if they had some "project" talls falling in that part of the draft like Keeler, Lemmey, Foster and Van Es.

At this stage we are all speculating who JT and the recruiters, coaches and TL will pick when they get to our pick 13, I believe the club is holding their nerve and have not given other clubs a clue what their thoughts are and thru out the speculation that they have an interest in Ed Allan so West Coast will pick him using pick 12 giving them the player they really want?

I have a gut feeling they have a player in mind who no one at this stage has picked for pick 13.

It is paywall

37. Melbourne – Sam Gilbey (Claremont/WA)

Defender, 187cm, 73kg

Jordan says: The Demons got their young forward earlier and now, given the star power and balance of its list, they can afford to take a slight risk. A risk because he is recovering from a broken leg, not because of his talent. Battled injury and Covid earlier in the year, too, but Gilbey has more class and composure than plenty of others in the draft. Reads the play so well in defence but, given the time he gives himself with ball in hand, has shown glimpses of the tall midfielder he could become.

36. Port Adelaide – Harry Lemmey (West Adelaide/SA)

35. St Kilda – Harvey Gallagher (Bendigo Pioneers/Vic Country)

34. GWS – Harry Rowston (Giants Academy/Allies)

33. Fremantle – Jason Gilbee (Bendigo Pioneers/Allies)

32. Carlton – Kaleb Smith (East Fremantle)

31. St Kilda – Isaac Keeler (North Adelaide/SA)

30. Collingwood – Harry Barnett (West Adelaide/SA)

29. West Coast – Darcy Jones (Swan Districts/WA)

28. Collingwood – Coby Burgiel (Gippsland Power/Vic Country)

27. Hawthorn – Olli Hotton (Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro)

26. North Melbourne – Max Gruzewski (Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro)

25. Western Bulldogs – Jacob Konstanty (Gippsland Power/Vic Country)

24. Adelaide – Max Michalanney (Norwood/SA)

23. Essendon - Alwyn Davey (Oakleigh Chargers/Vic Metro)

22. West Coast – Lewis Hayes (Eastern Ranges/Vic Metro)

21. GWS – Charlie Clarke (Sandringham Dragons/Vic Metro)

This is the surprising one:

20. GWS – Elijah Hewett (Swan Districts/WA)

I thought the same, except that we are happy to let people think we want Jefferson.

Yes, but what i am saying is "LOT" of underage footy has isn't there.  its the final year of underage footy, not the two years prior which are very much the years that recruiters look at.

I was at Princes Park when WA played Vic Metro and Elijah Hewett looked a ready made AFL player to me - far more than any other player on the ground that day with the exception of Will Ashcroft. I’d like to know what he’s done wrong since that game that caused him to slide to a projected top 20 pick.

Freo/WCE probably over inflating his short comings regarding his professionalism like they did Darling & Fyfe

I listened to Elijah Hewitt's interview on SEN last week. Elijah seemed confident he will be selected within pick range of 8-12 range. I would be very excited if he is still available at our First Pick 13. But I'm no expert. It is better if we leave it to JT to make this call. Ed Allan will be gone before our First Pick.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
