Good bounce back game from ANB, didn't see it coming

Petty just huge

Again it's evident we need more runners & classy ball users as much as another key forward option. Two of the worst games you'll ever see from Sparrow & Rivers tonight

I thought Spargo was even worse, but then again that was his stock standard performance.

The usual second-half fadeout. Outrun by fitter opponents.

Incredibly woeful  kicking at goal. How many actually finished out of bounds?

Same old bombing into forward packs with the customary result.

Salem a mere shadow of the player he once was.

Pickett -- couple of magic touches, utterly useless for the rest of the game.

Fumbles and  missed passes galore.

Goodwin, unable to think on his feet and change tactics, totally outsmarted by Fagan..

Please just let Jackson go and get the best deal we can.

Spargo, Melksham and Neal-Bullen a long way from premiership-winning material.

Sadly, our straight-sets exit was richly deserved.

Agree with the Jackson bit.

Over rated. Let him go.

Its gonna be a LOOOOOOOOOOONG summer.....

We. Were. Not. Out. Coached. The game plan worked brilliantly.

It is simple: we don't have enough good kicks in our team between wing and full forward. At one stage in the 3rd quarter, 7 out of 11 disposals going forward (either shots at goals or entries) were absolute duds. Spinning badly through the air, missed the target, gave the advantage to the Lions, or kicked it straight to them.

And the amount of snaps we get given to us by forward pressure, only to miss them is hair-tearing to watch.

Amazing to think 2018 was more successful year then 2022.

Viney,no right boot,turnover,season over

Lever-dumbest thing i saw in football this season!!!

Hopefully Jackson has taken that no 6 jumper off and it is given to someone with a heart beating inside it.

70 point second half. When we talk about how bad our ‘defence’ is that doesn’t mean the back 6 - the whole team starting with the lack of forward pressure is to blame.

Oliver had one uncontested possession in the 2nd half. He needed help with Berry but he was beaten badly.

ANB tried to save his career but I feel just exemplified that we need a forward line, not a bunch of fit robots that do jobs. Sparrow, Harmes, ANB, and little Charlie is that because he can’t find the footy…

Feel for Melksham who is probably done after that. Hibberd too.

Addition to the coaching staff would be a Ball Movement coach that can get us kicking to a forward line coming at them.

One thing I will say is that we can’t deviate from what we have built, the changes needed are only adjustments. Some are large adjustments but we had a long campaign, half our best 10 players had injuries, they weren’t managed well to perform when it matters and that happens, so we can bounce back.

Make no mistake though - absolute embarrassment to go out in straight sets against the Lions.

I am prepared to overlook some of Spargo's consistency issues as he is our best kick inside 50 by an absolute mile, providing at least one elite trait to the side.

My disappointment will settle. The rage too.

But to lose the same way, again, is just maddening.

We lost 8 games this year. 6 of them all played out the same way - strong start, 20+ point lead, some point midway our opponent lifts and we absolutely fall apart and never look like righting the ship.

Our fitness wasn’t good enough. Our hunger can’t have been strong enough. Our skills weren’t good enough. Our coaching wasn’t good enough.

From 10-0, and after finishing 2nd, we should not be watching prelim finals from home. That is not good enough.

Yep. Full blame surely must rest with selection committee.

Going with the same team after being comprehensively bested the week before was flawed.

Who would you have brought in?

Why is our key backman already our best full forward?

Cos he’s our best contested mark, and by a looooong way.

Who's your answer then? An untried kid who's been inconsistent even at Casey (but hopefully will be great in the longer term) or Mitch Brown?

We had 22 shots on goal (more than them), not counting a few OOB on the full which were aimed in the general direction of the goals -  that should be enough to win a game of footy.

Not saying we don't need to look at what's going on with the forward line, but you can't lose your main tall forward/CHF and that not have consequences.

We’ve had since May to think of something, to be fair

The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over again expecting a different result.
For all of our “learnings”, we’ve learnt nothing.

The most disappointing part for me about this season is that we walk away without having unearthed a single young player who I think can really help us improve next year.
Casey lost one game all year, yet we debuted one player all year despite wavering form and injuries. Our big move was bringing Melksham back in and throwing Petty forward with 3 minutes left in the season.

It was clear that things haven’t been working well since the halfway mark of the year. Yes we finished second and that was a good result, but our form was very up and down, particularly against good sides. And yet week after week nothing changed.
The same predicable ball movement.  The same dysfunctional forwardline. Hell even our defense has been leaking goals left right and centre.

To start 10-0 and go out in straight sets is an unacceptable result.

Predictable and terrible second half. What a disappointing end to the season. That season can only be called a failure. Reigning champs with back to back home finals against interstate teams and we lost both. Our gameplan needs an overhaul over summer, and we need fresh personnel in the forward line.

[censored] hell what a let down.

If I made the mistake /kryios tantrum like Lever (with the $$ he is on ) I would be sacked  from my job. Inexplicable.lack of discipline  by Kozzie, Lever and a couple of other incidents.

Keep May,Petty, Oliver, Viney,Brayshaw , Petracca ,Gawn & ANB (Effort plus) . Their efforts were fantastic but were let down  by brain fades. I hope some people recognise that they owe the MFC

We MUST have more variety in the Forward line !!!

They need more variation going into the forward line.

Dumb bombing for too much is the time.

Is it weird I kinda feel relief and don't care about  what happens in the AFL this year. And I can go into next year with no expectation

Lost it at selection

Yes and I called it too Uncle

If Spargo and Melksham play another game??

Both were putrid. But Simon u backed em so I ask the question ???

Are you up to it!!

Why did kozzie dribble it 20 metres out where was levers brain in that final moment & Luke Jackson what planet are you on. Neal-Bullen disappeared & Spargo looked slow

Oliver got tagged out of it and no one stepped up

I’m going to get this tattooed on me.

Disgusted. We lost that game in exactly the same fashion we have played since the middle of the year. Our only excuse is we had too many battered players but that was obvious during the season.

About half way you could see what was going to happen because of the dumb football some of our players played. Ben Brown in particular. Sparrow another one. May and Lever too busy arguing with one another and the consistent bombing it into the forward pocket.

To put a positive on this, we get 6 months off from the suffering

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
