Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

CHANGES 2022

So after we wasted this year these are what I think we need to change.

Game plan. It’s crap and was worked out early this year but Goodwin refused to tweak.

Forward coach, not a bloody ruckman.

Selection, actually reward Casey players.

Game day coaching, try things. FFS try things.

Major review of fitness staff, our last qtrs are only better than Nth and West coast is an absolute embarrassment. Not to be glossed over.

Kick outs, if we go left and long next year I’ll burn the mcg down.

I can't believe how pedantic Goodwin comes across, with his stubborn approach to the games.

Salem needs to be dropped, I'd rather have Bowey.

Jackson has checked out please help him carry the bags to the plane.

JVR needs to come to our fwd line immediately next year.

I am.so angry atm and can't think clear...

I’m not sure we have the cattle to right this ship.

Our bottom 6 players are ordinary and our middle 6 have done their best to be worse than them all year

If we are fair dinkum, there needs to be some pretty significant changes to game plan, personnel and attitude

i’m sitting here at the G after that.

apart from being pretty upset, I am furious that Goodwin failed to do anything about the dysfunctional forward line. it’s been evident from the Queens birthday game. and it took until the game was lost for him to put someone (Petty - kicked one and gave away another) up there who might change things up.

We are in danger of being a one hit wonder.

The usual second-half fadeout. Outrun by fitter opponents.

Incredibly woeful  kicking at goal. How many actually finished out of bounds?

Same old bombing into forward packs with the customary result.

Salem a mere shadow of the player he once was.

Pickett -- couple of magic touches, utterly useless for the rest of the game.

Fumbles and  missed passes galore.

Goodwin, unable to think on his feet and change tactics, totally outsmarted by Fagan..

Please just let Jackson go and get the best deal we can.

Spargo, Melksham and Neal-Bullen a long way from premiership-winning material.

Sadly, our straight-sets exit was richly deserved.

Please change the genius who decided we should go with the same team with the same players in the same positions week after week. Just plain stupid. If it was Goodwin, he should be sacked, premiership coach or not. Stupid stupid stupid  😡😡😡😡😡

Yes. I remember watching said "hit" at home, unable to leave, after having attended and witnessed countless 100 point beltings in person. "Fantastic"....

Two classy half backs, one classy winger, two quick classy forwards ( one big) .
Forget Grundy. Second week in a row too many players well beaten.

There are 7 C graders in that side.

Add a kicking coach and another KPF. I think Brown was goal less and only kicked one last week.

The season seemingly started to de-rail at the half way mark.

The fitness suffered with crucial injuries including the loss of TMac. Some like Salem and Lever never really recovered.

The May Melksham incident can't have been good for morale. What influence did it have on the young players in attendance?

The whole Jackson leaving discussion.

Failure to blood players when were having that bad patch.

At the end other teams were prepared to go harder for longer. So either the hunger or the fitness wasn't there.

We need replacements for Melk, Hibberd, BBB.

I raised this after round 10 with down the line play but it is done and dusted so lets see how the club responds  regarding the trade period and coaching panel.

1. Ball Movement Coach installed. Transition game awful atm.

2. Forward pressure game reinstated. No excuses.

3. Use squad and not injured ‘best 22’ players.

4. Play forwards in forward line. If they can chop out mids great, otherwise bye-bye to the bench mids.

5. Get our stars right. They were slowing down at the end of the year. CP5 had an impact injury late of course but he, Salem, May, Petty, Lever, and Kozzie make up 6 of our best 10 players and they were playing injured this year at various times. What’s the point if this is the result.

6. Small r Review of the High Performance performance. Has to be done. Even if it is to confirm our injuries and struggles.

7. Just keep going. Best thing to do when going through hell.

Keep Frtta and maybe Kossie for his little cameos but the rest of the forward line can all get delisted. Jackson can go and get the best result before others work out he's not as good as most think. Salem is finished and the coaching staff also need to have a BIG look at themselves in the mirror and realise why they played so many that were injured. Watching Gawn was embarrassing and Trac in second half could not move. Fritta was not his normal damaging self and Lever could not twist and turn and was so slow.

Had to happen that our own red head folded in 2nd half to a pretty good player in Bailey. Oliver has carried us the last few games with no support at all. Just conked out.

That is 2 games in a row that Gawn/Jackson got towelled up by VFL ruckmen or less in Hickey and Fort.

I'm Shattered that we ended the season like this. Absolutely pathetic.

Can’t disagree with any of the above.

I’d like to add,

- VINEY should 1. not start in the centre square 2. IMO should not be considered in the best 5 midfielders we have ( too many limitations ) Therefore we need to bring in 2 quality midfielders. .3. Perhaps he is best used as a negating midfielder.

- HUNT is not a defender, play him in a more attacking role, either on a wing or half forward, if not, move him on.

PETTY, whilst he has the capacity to be in the best 3 tall defenders in the game, I think he best used by us as a forward, therefore 2023, it’s Petty & VanRooyen key forwards. No room for B. Brown.

Desperately needed, another quality small forward to combine with Pickett, neither Spargo nor Neal-Bullen do enough in this role. Not best 23 for 23.

Shop SALEM around.

GAWN looks worn out, maybe carrying injury or maybe he’s on the downward spiral, so getting Grundy might be the right call after all.

We need 2 out-of-the-park, line breaking, target spotting elite kicks. Either we develop them, draft them or trade for them. I love our defensive mindset and grunt but apart from Fritsch, Spargo (who doesn't get it enough to really count) and May, our kicking and decision making inside or around F50 is appalling. I'm talking Travis Johnstone and Jack Watts type kicks.

We need a marking forward who is an aerial threat. I am not a fan of getting rid of BBB because although he is clumsy, but he has no real aerial presence. I still believe that Petty should be moved forward, but possibly JVR can be an answer. But they have to play from round 1.

We need to stamp out a growing arrogance. For a leader, Lever's tantrum with 1.30 to go was unforgiveable. Kozzie continues to stuff up easy moments, our midfield messing around with hope-and-glory blind handpasses, players who can't kick trying for the 45 degree play into the corridor.

Our bottom 6 have hurt us this in many games year. Unless something changes, I'm not sure if we can carry all of Rivers, Sparrow, Spargo, ANB, Jordon and others through an entire season. I am a huge Sparrow fan but he should have been dropped weeks ago - his kicking, decision making and momentum killing are becoming a massive liability.

A wise coach once said that even a premiership side needs to turn over players from year to year. He suggested that you needed to bring in up to five new players to freshen up a side. We brought in two - Luke Dunstan for a handful of games and Daniel Turner who in the end played half a game.

There wasn’t much inventiveness in dealing with our problem areas and, in fact, we kept repeating the same failed tactics that just about every decent coach in the competition had worked out and in the end, exploited.

The time to bring youth into the side was in Rounds 9 and 10 - just one or two players of the likes of JVR and Bailey Laurie just to see how they fitted into AFL football. Our opposition in those games were West Coast and North Melbourne. Trying some new blood in those games would not have changed the result.

Ironically, in the final quarter of our last game Harry Petty shows up on the forward line to be the only tall in the team to score a goal in such a vital game. Hoping the coach had some “learnings” out of this.

Salem is the answer. He’s been operating at 20%. Get him fit and he makes us a lot better.

Changes needed yes…but I’ll reassess next year.
Blind Freddie could see how banged up and out on our feet this team was tonight.

The club will make changes and players will have the chance to come back refreshed. Book the required surgeries immediately.

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
