POSTGAME: Rd 23 vs Brisbane

Gambling line is Swans -19.5 so theyโ€™d have to smash that to leapfrog us

Why it has nothing to do with it, we achieved a win, players reaction with the chest beating means we clearly achieved our target of keeping them below a certain score.

you ever had anything to do with footy at a decent level and when youโ€™re way ahead you start managing your players

Big win

%boost

no injuries

top 4

Good night but others always need to whinge

Of course it was a good night but a bit of the gloss will come off if Sydney edge past us on percentage. Last game of 2017 anyone.

ย

Mighty impressive performance.

Trac was back tonight! Our barometer.

Loved the straight kicking.

Luke Jackson's best game since Gold Coast game.

Beating up Brisbane is a good feeling!

Clarry maybe a Brownlow vote or two?

BBB brilliant.

Hibbo's job on Cameron.

May' physicality!

Hunt great game for four quarters.

Rivers excellent.

Excellent. Now for the swans. Personally I don't care where we play them.

How massive were Jackson and Rivers in their 50th matches?!

Rivers was unbelievableโ€ฆthatโ€™s one of the best games heโ€™s ever played imo

Who is mathematically able to work out how much Swans need to win by to overtake us?

Donโ€™t reckon it matters. ย Of course would be nice to be there at the G but travel holds no fears. ย I think we are the feared again ๐Ÿ˜€

Well in the end we won 3 of our last 4 which is an excellent result, all things considered.ย  Pies the only hiccup but we'll have learned a lot from that loss

2 wins on the road against 2 top 4 aspirants as well ... 2 thrashings in fact.ย  Combined scoreline Freo/Brisbane 13.18 vs 30.20.ย  Away from home!

We've hit our straps at the right time.ย  And you need a bit of luck to offset the bad luck.ย  Close win against the Blues vs injuries to our key personnel at various times

And is that now 12 or 13 wins in a row outside of Victoria?ย

We can win anywhere and we look very comfortable outside of the comfort zone. Not sure it exists in the minds of the players.ย  We are focussed

We are a very confident bunch, nothing intimidates us and our teamwork tonight was fantastic

Great to watch

Sending shivers through the competition!

GO THE DEES!

surely any team in the top 8 has to be worried about that performance.ย

ย

Oooh oohh.

ย

Im not F ing leaving!!!

PetraccaWolf.jpg

Great game!

Kozzie a brilliant first half!

Fritta all class!

Neal-Bullen's projectile vomit was like a scene from the exorcist!

Dane Zorko's nasty personal comments to Harry Petty that upset him were pointless and didn't help the Lions one bit.

Anyway, a fantastic win by the Demons!

Onto the finals!

To all the naysayers out there โ€ฆthis is our game. To paraphrase โ€œBinmanโ€ โ€ฆ listen to Goody in his pressers โ€ฆhe is or has built a team for finals footy . You donโ€™t play that footy during the year โ€ฆespecially this year as we were also the hunted . Doesnโ€™t mean we will win โ€œback to backโ€ but we will leave everything out there. So proud of that effort tonight & hope the disrespectful media contingent has a good look at themselves . I expect our pessimistic supporterโ€™s will no doubt have heaps of criticismโ€™s but a superb performance Dees ๐Ÿ’™โค๏ธ

That was bloody fun to watch.

Even when Brisbane kicked those last two goals I wasn't fazed at all.

I reckon we went into conservative mode in the last to save from injuries and happy we did.

Go dees!

Finals is a different ball game. Not to mention we want the home ground and home crowd advantage. After missing out last year I think we want our fans at the G cheering the boys on.ย

Yes but even if we don't get the G in week 1 we will in weeks 3 & 4 ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ˜ˆ

Weโ€™re the first VIC club to go 7-0 interstate in a season.

(I just made up that stat but I reckon itโ€™s correct)

This post warrants the use of multiple reactions not just the one.

Yeah we lost that game, we won tonight

donโ€™t ย compare Oranges and apples, turn your lights off and sit alone wallowing in self pity, whilst the rest of us enjoy the win

Ruthless!!

Loved the move of Harmes to Bailey at the first bounce, would have totally thrown them off when all the talk was about tagging Neale.

Had all the hallmarks of a Grand Final team tonight. Super stoked!

Great win. So efficient inside 50. So patient but also brutally quick to space when they could go quick. Melksham is so smart, Kozzie and Fritsch are natural forwards and everyone else did their role well.

A great team performance, everyone is to be commended for their great effort, this is one of the top teams in the competition and we gave them a football lesson. 3 more games like that to take back to back premierships. Disappointed in the commentators, they kept stating that Melbourne was essentially beating up the poor brisbane players and zorko was being harassed constantly. I dont know how many times I saw Zorko tackled put the tackler into a headlock and would not let him go, or punch and push players and the commentators blame the melbourne players.

ย

When we get it right forward of centre, we're still the best side in it.

26-26 inside 50s to half time for an 11-goal lead.

The Saints should be looking to win by 120 points, hope some results go their wayโ€ฆ

But seriously, if we play at the SCG - fine, bring it the [censored] on.

  • NON-MFC: 2026 Opening Round

Finally the 2026 AFL Premiership Season is upon us. While Melbourne sits out Opening Round, there is still plenty of footy to enjoy with five non-MFC clashes to kick off the new season. It all begins on Thursday night with a blockbuster at the SCG as Sydney hosts Carlton in what should be a strong early test for both sides. On Friday night, Gold Coast gets its chance to open the season in front of a home crowd when the Suns and Christian Petracca take on Geelong at People First Stadium. Saturday features a double-header, starting in the afternoon with Greater Western Sydney and Clayton Oliver meeting the Hawks at Engie Stadium. That is followed on Saturday night by Brisbane Lions hosting the Western Bulldogs at the Gabba, with the Lions embarking on their campaign to win the Threepeat. Opening Round wraps up on Sunday night at the MCG, where St Kilda takes on Collingwood in the only game in town in the first week of the season. There is no shortage of storylines across the round, so discuss all the action from the non-MFC games of Opening Round.
