100% agree in as much heโ€™s too good for VFL and has a real impact for us whenever he plays

He has only hit the ground 5 times. Plus 7 x the sub where he hasn't played.

Doesn't look overawed at all. Slotted straight inย

Best 23 maybe but not 22 in my view. At least not 2022 Rivers. The best of Salem, Gus, Hibbo, Bowey has him covered this year and I dont see another defensive rotation. A full preseason and another year in his body he will back in our best.ย

There is still a lot of water to flow under the bridge for 2022 - sure they have him [Rivers] covered, for now.

But Hunt, Rivers are there and applying pressure. ย And even poor Joel Smith, if he ever gets an injury free run, is in the mix.

No change, unless Salem is still a bit proppy. If he is, Hunt comes in.ย

No way does Rivers come back yet. He in particular was in rare horrible form prior to the bye and has to earn his way back in.ย

Bedford gives us another option and his pace is a serious point of difference. We are not a particularly quick team.

If Max tries to come back early, I'm going to sneak Ipecac into his double strength chai latte. Jackson and Weideman are a fine team to play their roles until Max heals FULLY.

2 of 3 am with you, however Rivers has been BOG in the 2's and his drive has looked brilliant, so I think he has dialed it back in. I like Bedford's speed and he is dog hungry and not second guessing himself with shots at goal, that enthusiasm is good for the others that still have the yips. And I want Max rested for Geelong, they will merde themselves at Skilled seeing him down there, he lives in Blicav's head and I know Scott still has bad dreams. I also think Max has more than one injury healing.

What I want to see continue is Bedford building a body of work in the role he played Thursday night. He absolutely deserves to retain his spot and could be an important component of the team in this years flag tilt.ย

The other thing is to play Weideman in kahoots ย with Dogga whilst Maxy' recuperating.

Who knows but this could be the circuit breaker role that elevates Weed to the contributor that we've been crying out for.

I thought he was far from disgraced as the second ruck against the Lions.

If Jake Spencer is the standard then he didn't disgrace himself.

Otherwise, a one mark, 10 disposal game with two relatively simple misses on goal doesn't quite do it for me.

A question regarding Rivers performance on the weekend if I might? I only managed to see a shortened version, hacked to bits on the AFL app. Unfortunately for Riv, all I saw was him absolutely butchering the ball twice. How was the rest of his game?

He seems unable to kick a regulation drop punt anymore...which is odd

Weird did much more than those stats suggest - good physical presence in the ruck, several clean taps to advantage. Showed improvement without getting among the goals. Played his role.

Poor Jake. Had a great opportunity to have 5-10 game spell at senior footy and boost his trade value and career prospects, but I recall he overestimated his abilities by diving head first ย into a Richmond player for a tackle (instead of keeping his feet) and he wiped himself out for 3 months and that was that.

Bedford must stay in in my view.ย  He's effectively the forward version of the Bowey inclusion in late 2021.

No changes unless there are injuries.

Toby Bedford is starting to play with confidence and realising he can be an AFL player!

Please make sure our defence is right..

Looking at the disposal stats for Weids game on Thursday would be completely unfair to him. He competed hard, and in ruck contests I felt he was at absolute worst 50/50 with his direct opponent. He used his body, did teams things, to me it looked like a much improved version of Weid and certainly something to build on.ย

Without a doubt he goes again this week!

He is a relief ruckman not a KPF. His only hope of playing in a GF at the MFC is through injury. Sad but IMO true. On Thursdays play he stays in till Max returns. How come we are playing on the weekend next week? Must be an error!ย

Heโ€™s a top 3 handballer in the team too. Can use both hands and understands how to handball on the up. If he can break even in the ruck, crash packs and fire off a few lovely handballs he doesnโ€™t have to hit the scoreboard.ย

The Weed applies a lot of blocks and shepherds, he is also very popular amongst the playing group as well.

That all counts.

thats their entire fwd line!

Walker will get up to play us. He hates Melbourne and would love nothing more to knock us off again at home.

Walker seems to hate everyone who is not him

Fwiw, i watched the replay with a focus on our talls. ย They all did well at crashing packs, halving contests knocking the ball to advantage. ย Weid put his body into contests like we havenโ€™t seen before, he competed cleverly in most ruck contests. ย BBB looked better and worked harder too. ย jacko is doing fine at plumping his value.

I suggest wer go unchanged until MAx is right, ย the smaller forward setup with different use of the talls seemed to work well for us.

Mitch Brown played an absolute blinder inย  the VFL on Sat. Frustrating he cant go to the next level.

No change for the creepy trip to Karak.

Gawn can rest up at home. We need him for gloomyย  dark Mordor.

Great draw we have. Nothing changes.

The Walker/Fogarty combo requires some consideration given they kicked 10 between them yesterday.

Whilst they were playing nobody yesterday, 10 goals is still 10 goals and both were instrumental when they beat us last year, with Tex kicking the winning goal.

We did well against Brisbane's big "3" last week but all three are yet to hit peak form/fitness yet. These Adelaide blokes are at the top of their game.

If we were to somehow lose to Adelaide next week, I'd imagine these two lads would've had a big say in the result.

Agree with your first point about Mitch Brown. Just doesn't have what it takes anymore to be a regular AFL player.

With your last point, in fairness Geelong also have a five day break too. I expect multiple Geelong restings given they have North at home next weekend.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
