Demonland has made the difficult decision to not to permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Any value in giving JVR a sniff at the big time?

Disrespect the opponent at your peril - nobody gets a sniff until they well and truly deserve it

If JVR is considered the best available for a position in the 22 great - if not he plays at Casey

BBB is very lucky he isn't busting the door down IMO - despite being a big lad I just don't think he has the physical maturity to compete in a KFP at AFL level yet

He's certainly in good form that's for sure.

I've watched most Casey games this year and his physicality and strength for an 18 year is bloody scary. Not only that, he's shown that he's got the forward smarts and leading patterns to succeed at AFL level.

10 games in the VFL for 20 goals speaks for itself.

Had he been drafted to a bottom 8 club I have no doubt that he would be playing AFL. I don't mind him learning his craft at VFL, but I really do hope he gets a taste of AFL this year because with a full pre season behind I can easily see him being in our best 22 next year.

Big call, but sometimes you just watch certain players go about it and they just 'have it'.

Again, where?

I've had a pretty big search and found not one article that suggests the deal was 400k per year or that he gave up a million dollars, so keen to see the link you read it at.

And you are correct, Adam Ramanauskas turned down 3 years at 750k reportedly, so I would be pretty surprised to hear he then signed for nearly half of that with another club.

Just curious. Can any manager make such a decision? Or is it always the player that has the final say? I can appreciate that a manager can advise a client on a particular course of action, but surely the decision has to be that of the player, not a unilateral decision of the player's manager.

My recollection is BBB knocked back a 3yr $750k a year deal at North - he wanted 4yrs and the 3yr offer was withdrawn - and in the end took a 4yr $400k a year deal at Melbourne,

Correct about the 3 x $750k offer...

It was enough for the Kangaroos to table a lucrative three-year deal reportedly worth $750,000 a season at the start of the year - an offer Brown and manager Adam Ramanauskas rebuffed.

Ben Brown leaving North had absolutely nothing to do with money or length of contract.

He is getting paid significantly less at Melbourne than he would have been paid at North. He also did not leave for success (although anything is an upgrade on North). He left because he was treated appallingly during a very difficult personal time and particularly his wife wanted a change of scenery for their family. Melbourne presented really well to them and offered them the sort of family club culture they were after.

Edit: and because Brown is such a decent guy, he never wanted to come out and speak badly about North so the conversation in the media was about length of contract, when in reality it was about their crappy culture. I mean JHF has had a gutful of the place and he's 18 with 8 games under his belt, not 29 with a young family.

From an assistant coach....Sounds about right. His knee was pretty cooked and a 4 year deal takes him to 32 I think. There are some who thought it was too much in value and length....

BACK TO BASE CAMP by Meggs

Congratulations to the Brisbane Lions.   Undefeated in all 6 matches against the top teams (North Melbourne, Adelaide, Geelong, and Melbourne). They are worthy winners of the 2023 AFLW premiership.   Our ambition for a Season 8 back-to-back premiership was derailed.   In round 6 Adelaide spilled the beans on the template to outplay us. From there news spread fast to other top teams who applied similar intense physical pressure at the source which crushed our gameplan to execute vi

TOO LITTLE TOO LATE by Meggs

It was a hot afternoon at IKON where the ferocious Cats came to play, had read the manual on how to beat us and the Demons were unable to match them for the first three quarters.     With physical pressure, they took the game on with relative ease and though our resistance seemed better than the previous two weeks it was still not good enough.     Within the opening minute, Kate Hore marks within range, but her shot was a miss-kick, like a fat iron, and it kinda set a flat tone f

    TURNAROUND by Meggs

Following successive comprehensive defeats by fellow Top Four heavyweights the Demons play down a division this Sunday against the highly promising Cats.     Strangely, no games against the Cats for five seasons and now we play them twice in one season.     With the blueprint on how to defeat the Dees available on the dark web the real question is, will we crumble again under the finals pressure cooker or will we rediscover our #DemonSpirit and execute a turnaround?   Mak

THE SECRET IS OUT by Meggs

We were expecting that after last week’s comprehensive defeat by Brisbane, our coach Mick Stinear would have his charges coming out breathing finals fire. Instead, it was North who had the aggression, the numbers, who blocked our scoring avenues and rendered us impotent, unable to match the Kangas during any phase of the match.   Darren Crocker, the North coach, later highlighted that how to beat Melbourne is no secret following recent losses to Adelaide and Brisbane and now North.
