Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

And the lack of midfield pressure didn’t contribute?? That is an awful comment about OUR players

Hypocrite! I blame the defence and you blame the midfield. And my comment is awful. No one should except mediocrity. They are mediocre players that should be replaced hopefully they will be replaced by Hibberd and Turner respectively. I do think they cost us the game and I don't see anything wrong with that.

I don't find the comment by May that bad. We won by 74 points so it's clearly illogical and I would find it hard to take offense (trying to put myself in Melk's place). If May had said - you were too sht of a player to get a game in the granny - that would sting as it is true

I wonder what Melksham's last barb to May was.

Either way, Melksham had zero justification to punch him

If I was in melksham's shoes I would be shattered to miss the grand final which is something I would have been working and dreaming off since a child. I would've felt disappointed since I'd been a large part of the Melbourne team for the large few years. I also would have an insecurity knowing that I am not as good as I use to be and not good enough to make the team.

If a senior team mate decided to pick on my insecurity as 'banter' I'd be [censored] off. I don't think it's clearly illogical, because May is clearly picking on life ambitions of any afl player. Yes melksham shouldn't of punched him but it wouldve been a lot easier for May not to say we wouldve lost a grand final if you played.

Yes it was a particularly nasty thing to say - could be the grog talking but that's no excuse

It's lucky he's such a good player but the club and leadership group saw fit to suspend him anyway. A brave call

If we defeat the Pies without May all will be ok (at least for us supporters) but if we lose, there could be some fallout and the natives could get restless.  And the media will get stuck in you'd imagine

We just have to win ... forward line needs to fire and the backline will have to make do without May again

And as we all know he's way more than just a top level full back.  He's the general back there and organises the other backmen like he's another coach.  And the other backmen play better with May playing his role

We didn't need this sort of thing to happen but it has happened and we're just going to have to make-do without him

Sounds like it might have been more than one punch, according to the restaurant. No doubt there will be some vision and more detail coming out when the press dig deeper into their pockets.

If May said what has been reported, it was cheap and about as low as you can go with a team mate. That he was drinking when he should not have been speaks volumes.

However, posters saying a punch by Melk was justified should spend a Sat night in a hospital ER. A single punch can kill. A punch delivered by a once talented amo boxer with a few drinks under his belt even more so. Not to mention May's concussion

Its dumb all round

If I read correctly earlier 6-7 were drinking. I’m blown away by this. If true, I find that more troubling than the incident itself: I expect May to do this. But I don’t expect 6-7 of the starting 18 to be on it. Is there such little self awareness. I want to know if Trac, Gawn, Oliver or Brayshaw were there. We know Viney wasn’t, and can imagine what would’ve happened if he was. Steven May now should be stripped of any leadership role, and should be made to adhere to any standards Bowey sets down back. That will keep May humble, hungry, and he’d respect a professional like Jake Bowey. As a really passionate Dees man, I feel so thankful that we have Goodwin right now, because I know he will be furious.

Team mates have dust ups all the time. As long as they have both cleared the air and there’s no lingering resentment this isn’t an issue.

All that matters now is Monday and beating the pies. Do that and this week will be forgotten pretty quickly

I still can't fathom how may knowing he was in the middle of concussion protocols, he knew he couldn't drink but sat there & ordered one in front of his teammates.

A 30 year old should know better especially after this isn't his first incident

May will get pilloried whether we do or don't.  More so if we don't though is my guess Macca.

Agree re the first part but its usually at training not a boozy night out.  Dust ups/incidents with other knuckle head members of the public on a boozy night out .....yes.

Re second part ..

We haven't faired well without the two book ends (May & Tommy) so far against 'in form' top 8 teams.  I'm not sure it will just suddenly click and we start beating them from here without both of them back in (and /or another KTF finally hitting some form and the scoreboard!).

Who is telling the media what May said to set Melkdsham off?  Hopefully, none of the other players there nor someone at the club.

Before we hang May for his barb to Melksham about the GF we don't know what came before it.  It is unlikely May or anyone would throw that into a conversation out of the blue.  I can think of some friendly sledges toward May that may have prompted his retort to Melksham.  Then it all went pear shape.  Nothing excuses all the things that were wrong about those events but context is important regarding what started it.

Whatever started it, the right penalties were given.

I'm guessing none of our leaders were there.  We know Viney wasn't.  And it is a safe bet Lever,  McDonald and Gawn were home with their families and bubs.

So May and Melksham were probably the most senior players attending..

Someone asked about CCTV.  Entrecote is a fancy establishment so it is unimaginable that the restaurant doesn't have security cameras inside, especially in reception (where the desk was allegedly damaged) and outside its premises being so close to a train station.

And there is a fair chance the staff would have filmed the scuffle on a phone if only for insurance claims .

The tabloids would be at work trying to dig up the videos!  Sadly more trash reporting likely to come.

Based on some reports in this thread Entrecote's management is far from impressed so hopefully the guys have come completely clean on what happened and they and the club apologise to Entrecote quick smart.  It would have been a good move to do so before and in the press release.

While I don’t think a club is defined by whether it can best Collingwood while being in a form slump - the next 3 months will define a small number of players, this group as a whole, and the club itself.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
