Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Coaches final game this week then McVeigh will take over.

How long before Clarko's name gets bought up.

A much better list than their ladder standing indicates.

There are problems at GWS that Cameron couldn't fix. Will require a tough coach to get things right.

Maybe the AFL will tap Clarko the way they did Roos?

This could be Adem Yze's chance at a senior coaching gig.

Depends what happens at Gold Coast, Al Clarkson will be coaching next year and it will be either gws or gold Coast.

Afl need high profile coaches at these clubs to try and get some interest on the side.  These clubs and AFLW will be costing the afl a lot.

Normally I would agree.

But GWS is an AFL - owned franchise and not a traditional team in the historic sense.

AFL can't risk the next coach as a newbie, no matterhow good they are. And Yze is good alright.

Must be a big name for marketing etc. Theyr'e not the Swans and never will be with ingrained history and culture.

Clarkson or bust IMO

Club-wide culture fix required imo …….. a la Peter Jackson / Paul Roos.

I'd have thought if the Giants were seriously considering James Hird he'd be caretaker so they could get a preview.

This to me is about getting into the Clarko race nice and early, and i think there is a live chance he does land at GWS, given their more advanced list, ambassador money and AFL support.

I could also see Ross Lyon bobbing up here.

There has never been a better buyers market in the coaching world than right now. In the seasoned coaches wing stands Clarko, Bucks and Lyon. On the highly respected but untested wing stands Yze and Blake Caracella (and probably others that I am not aware of). There is no way known that the AFL is going to give the keys to their orange Ferrari to James Hird after what happened at the bombers, it would be a PR disaster area.

Don Pyke could be added to the first group; took Crows to a GF and left due to politics.  And add highly touted Kingsley to the second group.

And Simpson could be coaxed out of WCE, not necessarily for the Giants role but for the dominoes that will follow.

It is quite competitive so Yze won't find it easy getting a senior gig.

Edit:  Just saw this on AFL website on newbie coaches:  "Jaymie Graham at Fremantle (and previously West Coast) is strongly regarded, Ash Hansen at the Blues and previously the Bulldogs has built a good resume and Adem Yze (at Melbourne and before that, under Clarkson at the Hawks) has developed his credentials, while Andrew McQualter and Adam Kingsley at Richmond, and Daniel Giansiracusa at Essendon are among the other assistants who have been in the running for senior gigs".

I dunno. I watched that AFL doco series on Amazon from 2020 and Cameron just didn’t strike me as being much more than fury. I sometimes think the world mistakes seriousness with intellect and capability.

Modern players need more evolved relationships. Just ask David Noble.

Yze would be mad to go to GWS. Players constantly leaving, terrible culture, no supporters. They are 2-6 and have a top 3 midfield in the comp.

2-3 years of continued underperforming and Yze’s coaching career would be over

Yze is good enough to wait for a team like Port, Dogs. I can see a lot of coaches being moved on in the next couple of years

Tom Browne also mentioned the domino effect.

How do you think this may play out, Luci?

PJ tapped Roos not the AFL

I don’t think Clarkson would have any interest in this mess of an organisation aside from an easy pay packet

Its time for the popcorn!

Truly, I have no idea.  Lewis said last night Simpson should be thinking about whether he wants to go thru  a rebuild after 10 years at the club.

He took over at WCE when they were in contention.  A newbie coach there now would be torn to shreds from day 1 by their fans and the WA media.  A scary thought.

David King put up a chart showing that newbie coaches fail with bottom of the ladder re-build clubs.  He listed many many names and found only a couple that didn't:  Clarkson and maybe another that I don't recall.

So, time for the popcorn!

Yze is the perfect person to go into a club and build relationships and culture. He's more than just a strategist type.

He's also VERY keen on a senior gig and I have no doubt will throw his hat into the ring for the GWS job.

It's no coincidence that one coach who decided to coach every match from the boundary has seen his team rocket to prominence.

(There are other factors of course, but IMO that's a key one.)

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
