Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Records we can be proud of

Now 15. He's also now the holder of the record for current players of wins before his first loss, having overtaken Ben McEvoy who started with 14 wins before a loss.

Just a reminder that the overall record of wins before first loss is 19 held by Albert Lauder of Collingwood. There are no players with 18; two with 17 (Kelvn Moore of Hawthorn and and Alby Ingleman of Carlton), none on 16 and three others with him on 15. So, he's equal third on that list at the moment.

hmmmm equal 3rd with 3 ahead of him?

I think this thread about embarrassing records has reached its use by date. Time for something more positive. What records do we now hold that are ones we can be proud of?

Jake Bowey tops the list of players who never played in a loss with 10. The next best, held be a few people is 9.

Is the 12 goals in a row the best ever in a Grand Final?

Has any team ever kicked three goals in less than a minute of game time?

Please add to the list. Let's enjoy our true magnificence!

Update: Now 16

Our winning streak of 16 puts us equal 9th on the ladder of consecutive wins. Way out in front is Geelong with 23 in 1952/53.

Also, we're the only team to have started two consecutive seasons 9-0 twice. Previous seasons were 1955, 1956 and, of course, 2021. No pressure... but they were all Premiership years.

I think we are also the only team to have gone 9-0 in 2 consecutive years twice. 1955-1956 and 2021-2022.

That’s my understanding, and apparently the only club to do it at all, even once.
Fair effort in 125 years of the competition!

Jake Bowey tops the list of players who never played in a loss with 17. Next highest is 9. In addition, should we win next week, he will equal the 18 games that Albert Lauder from Collingwood played before his first loss. So, something extra to play for over the next two weeks - the chance to equal Lauder against Freo and then to go on to break that record the week after.

Another reason to win tomorrow: If we do, Jake Bowey will equal the record of 18 wins to start a career in the V/AFL.

Didn't happen. Nevertheless, Bowey sits equal second with number of wins before a loss. Equal with Kelvin Moore (Haw, played 1970-84) and Alby Ingleman (Carlton, 1905-08). The loss must have hit Ingelman hard. He only played 3 more games after his loss. Mind you, they were all wins, so he finished his career with 21 games in total - 20 of which were wins.

We'll get another opportunity every time we have a first-gamer to see if that player can knock off Bowey and at the same time claim the V/AFL record.

No idea if this is a record, but at the Demons (MFC and Casey) for Season 2022 we currently have a 93% win rate:

AFL Men's = 5/5

AFL Women's = 11/13 (season completed)

VFL Men's = 4/4

VFL Women's = 8/8

With Casey's VFLW season over, thought I'd update this. Obviously, been a bit of a dip since, but 82% is still impressive across four leagues. Finals are included:

AFL Men's = 11/14

AFL Women's = 11/13 Grand Finalist

VFL Men's = 12/12

VFL Women's = 12/17 Prelim Finalist

Simon Goodwin’s finals coaching record is something we can be proud of! Best W/L percentage of the current top 8 coaches (I will update if this changes but seeing as I am barracking hard for the pies to lose, purely out of hatred, I’m hoping I won’t have to).

Finals Coaching records:

Simon Goodwin: 5W-1L, 83% Win, 1 Premiership

Damien Hardwick: 10W, 5L, 67% Win, 3 Premierships

John Longmire: 10W-11L, 48%, 1 Premiership,

Michael Voss: 1-1, 50%, No Premierships

Chris Scott: Finals 8W-15L, 35% Win, 1 Premiership

Chris Fagan: 1-5, 16.7%, No Premierships

Justin Longmuire: NA

Craig MacRae: NA

Not a record per se but something to be proud of.

Freo were gone for all money at half time:  6.8.44 to 2.7.19.  The we were overrun due to injuries, illness and some good tactics.

It was the 'recency effect' in play by the umpires; they forgot the first half for which none of our players were rewarded.

We were beaten by over 6 goals?! Could have fooled me if we had one of the top three performers that night.

Agreed.

Not one player gave a yelp in the second half or remotely looked like arresting the very heavy Freo momentum.

No MFC player deserved a vote that evening on the back of a 1 half effort.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
