Michael Hibberd is one of three Demons, along with Marty Hore and mid-season draftee Kye Declase, not locked in for 2022.

What are we waiting for?

ADMIN EDIT: HIBBERD RE-SIGNS

I might be on my lonesome here, but I would think he'd at least be considering retirement.

The fact that we're a little light in his position could save him, but he's been below his best all year and if everyone stays fit, I can see him playing a lot of footy at Casey next year.

There is always the chance that now he has a premiership medallion he may be considering whether he wants to continue playing.

It has been reported a couple of times that he’ll get a one year deal. Not sure what the hold up is. Maybe some manager negotiations?

Maybe a Hibbo retirement and a Hore delisting.

Still think he's probably weighing up his decision and the club aren't in any rush. But out of all our fringe one year deal players it would make a fair amount of sense to drop Hibbo back to the rookie list rather than a young player who then becomes a free agent for life. Ie. James Jordon last year.

That's not something they've done with guys like Jetta and Jones, but it might be a factor.

Yep. Chandler and jordan need to move to the senior list.

Disagree strongly. Yes he dropped off big time last eight games but he came into the team late this year and hit the ground running. Played some blinders early on including making dusty look like a second rate player.

Yes hes long in the tooth but still worth another year for sure.

Why would you delist Hore....is it room or form?

Thought he was excellent in the few games hes played.

Form my own observations from afar, part of me has a sense Hibbo may struggle next season and right now might be a good oppertunity for him to go out on top.  However I'm sure that Hibbo and the club know his body and desire to go again much better than us mere mortal supporters.

In the scenario that he goes on Hibbo's senior appearances next season are limited much like Jones and Jetta this year, I'd be ok with that too.  He isn't that senior and we are nowhere near as top heavy as alot of teams and I'm sure that Hibbo would provide valuable leadership to who ever we are developing down at Casey and around the team in general.  For instance, I get the sense that having Jetta around this season was really important to Kossie and I'm sure there are others for whom Hibbo could play that mentoring role.

Quite asides from his valuable contributions to our premiership season this year, Hibbo has always been a hard as nails, heart and soul type of player for the MFC during a time when we were still building a winning culture.  For a number of years before Lever and May, he was both a rock and awsome rebounder out of defense.  His gut running back to cover our defense epitomizes the 'selfless' spirt the team has embraced and he is fully deserving of the respect that it appears he is being afforded.

A lot of predictions from the playing group that he was a certainty to be best on in the celebrations.

Quite likely he’s still drunk, and not legally fit to sign contract. Can’t blame him. Been throw it the last couple of years.

Hibberd has a contract.

Hore and Declase don't - they will be delisted.

He hasn't really lost the ability to defend or even read the game but players like Rivers and Hunt have added that defensive stuff to their game while maintaining some level of line-breaking involvement.

I think if he wants to go on, they'll give him a year. Particularly given our stated aim to maintain/add experience. I'm not against that at all.

Thanks, I know you normally have good mail.

What a champ, give him a 10 year deal. the club needs leadership like that to help us through winning the next 8 flags in a row

This is such a closely knit bunch that you couldn’t see anyone wanting to give it away at this point. I’d be surprised if he doesn’t continue for another 12 months. The need for some flexibility in dealing with the list and availability of players to come in will probably mean that Hore and Declase will be delisted. One or both could be offered a place depending on how things work out at  draft time.

I want Marty Hore next year.

Hibberd seems like an ideal post-2020 'playing assistant coach' type. All the enthusiasm and all the determination. Provides support which lets the coaches within soft-cap limits focus on their most crucial duties.

Plus, he's proven himself to not be easily written off.

I certainly want him next year. Who else would you play on Toby greene, or dusty, or jake stringer? To my mind, he is our best option for each of those, at least until Tomlinson is back

I don't see why Hibbo wouldn't want to continue on next year, he's waited all his footballing life for success and now its stairing him right in the face.

Not at anytime this year did he lose one on one battles with his direct opponent.

If you noticed during the Grand Final especially Johannison was taking him to the square and Hibbo never wilted once, he won 3-4 crucial 1on 1 battles and still has his pace.

Might not play the way he did as a rebounding defender but we have others to play that running role eg. Bowser, Hunty, Salem etc.

Might not play 18-22 games for the whole season, 12-16 might be his sweet spot, but anyone who shows during a season they can take Dusty to the cleaners deserves everyone's respect.

The lure of a Grand Final on the MCG might be the swansong he is long craving for along with the rest of the group.

Halfway through the last quarter I actually said "I reckon Hibberd will retire after this".

I wouldn't be surprised if he did, but happy for him to sign on for another year.

  • REPORT: North Melbourne

I suppose that I should apologise for the title of this piece, but the temptation to go with it was far too great. The memory of how North Melbourne tore Melbourne apart at the seams earlier in the season and the way in which it set the scene for the club’s demise so early in the piece has been weighing heavily upon all of us. This game was a must-win from the club’s perspective, and the team’s response was overwhelming. The 36 point win over Alastair Clarkson’s Kangaroos at the MCG on Sunday was indeed — roovenge of the highest order!

  • CASEY: Werribee

The Casey Demons remain in contention for a VFL finals berth following a comprehensive 76-point victory over the Werribee Tigers at Whitten Oval last night. The caveat to the performance is that the once mighty Tigers have been raided of many key players and are now a shadow of the premiership-winning team from last season. The team suffered a blow before the game when veteran Tom McDonald was withdrawn for senior duty to cover for Steven May who is ill.  However, after conceding the first goal of the game, Casey was dominant from ten minutes in until the very end and despite some early errors and inaccuracy, they managed to warm to the task of dismantling the Tigers with precision, particularly after half time when the nominally home side provided them with minimal resistance.
