I'm trying to watch the GC game for the second time and I'm at three quarter time right now, I doubt I can watch the rest of the game like last time. It's like watching an under 12 side trying to play against an AFL side, they are just terrible.

I finally caught up with my wife's cousins who are mad Bulldogs supporters at our Christmas Eve dinner last night, after a bit of friendly banter I said at least you guys already won one a few years ago so its not as bad as if you were still in a drought one of them tried to pull the "yeah we won a real Grand Final, not a rubbish interstate covid one" - I just smiled, and said "so that's how you're trying to rationalise that embarrassing capitulation to yourself." He said he'd rather win at the G in round 1 next year and I said don't worry, we'll do that too 🤣

I heard a stat mentioned the other day that dogs won about twenty of their first quarters all year.

I'm not sure if that's true....anyone confirm?

If it is, it was a  better one by us to whip them in the first of the granny.

That first quarter scoring by us was not our usual way. But helped keep us in touch score wise when the dogs got the drop on us. Psychologically if we were thirty points down it could have been pretty rough.

I still dont get why the dogs went out in the last the way they did. Yep they travelled a lot but had 2 weeks rest.

One must assume that they were somewhat blown away by our third quarter performance. 

It must have had taken some toll on their mindset. After controlling the scoring and be three goals up they must have been wondering if it was theirs maybe.

I'm looking forward to all these end of year 'Best Sports Moments of 2021' media lists.

No. 1 is easy, of course. Forget Olympics, Melbourne Cup, Wimbledon etc. An MFC premiership after 57 years is a monte for the top spot as it's one for the ages.

Any list that says otherwise is clearly made by people who don't know what they're talking about 😁

There was a bloke in a a dees jumper on day 1 that positioned himself perfectly behind the wickets Cummings was bowling too. He got on camera over and over all day.

Ever.

One thing I really loved about that goal was the set up.

Jackson, famously taking centre bounces at a critical stage in the game, follows up and has time gather and look for an option - and sees Clarry running through the corridor.

Jackson weights a perfect handball into space so Clarry doesn't have to break stride. 

Clarry never looked like missing - incredible given his struggles with accuracy all season.

Everything worked with that goal.

One of our young stars rucks and wins a follow-up possession, our clearance set up worked (inside mid, winning the contest and getting it out the front) and we get it to an A grade mid, who is running at speed in a dangerous position.

And Clarry puts the Grand Final to bed. 

Awesome team goal.

Didn't watch or listen to the radio calls of the 2nd or early part of the 3rd qtrs for a few weeks after the game.
Just wanted the good parts.
But I've found watching and listening to the whole game just makes the comeback better.
Commentators were gearing up to hang the Norm Smith around Bont's neck and then get blown away by 10mins of power the football world won't soon forget.

To be fair the whole last month of games was power football starting half way through rd23.
A comeback for the ages against geelong taking top spot for the home and away.
Comfortable win against respected Lions.
Destroyed the cats in the prelim with Gawn on fire.
And then after abit of to-and-fro, suddenly ripping the dogs hearts out on Grand Final day.

Perhaps the biggest change in our team has been our resilience.  We have been down in quite a few games but fought our way back.

Dees of old seemed to just fold and I dare so probably would have at 19 points down.

But not this lot. It was the dogs who threw in the towel.

I also have heard we won 19 of our third quarters for the year. The dogs won 20 of their first.

We were slow starters for most games and also missed many goals. 

It speaks volumes for what I mentioned above in our resilience but also to the coaching staff for our fitness.

In the end though. I really think it all stems from a deep confidence this team has developed.  Not just confidence but the lads also seemed to enjoy themselves. All smiles heading onto the ground.The last home and away game was the pinnacle of that confidence and probably helped fuel our finals campaign.  

With Bbb improved along with Fritta becoming a new key target we seem to have sealed our destiny. It took some time for things to get going. ...from having a great midfield, then building the best defence about, now we seem to have a very dangerous forward line. I relish seeing all these things fire from the very start of 2022.

Just give us next years cup already.

To totally capitulate in the last quarter of the grand final when only 4 goals down was pathetic. I just wonder what it will do to their mindset going forward.
