PF: Melbourne vs Geelong

Anyone else already feeling sick with nerves or just me??

I’m gonna say it now… if we lose to Geelong next week I’m calling time on the year 2021.

Geelong hold no fears. Expecting a 5 goal + result.

I was feeling nervous then my mate sent me this screenshot

The Cats had us covered until they started resting their stars at 3/4 time last time we met. It's going to be a huge test. They've definitely improved their side with their changes this week as well.

Sounds like our boys had a good first week in the hub, getting some much deserved rest, but it has to be all business from here.

Ok to all WA demons fans. We implore you to get to Optus next week, drown out the cats fans and get our boys over the line into the big one. Do it for all of us dees fans that are stuck in other states in particular here in Victoria where we cannot move.

Esava makes more formidable structure

Please dear lord make me feel better this time next week.

I agree. If that's the best Geelong can dish up we win comfortably.

Goody cracked a bottle of red at halftime tonight.

This is rubbish, propaganda driven by Geelong people.

The only time they "had us covered" was the 20 minute patch in the second quarter where they dominated stoppages and kicked 6 goals.

If anyone had anyone covered the rest of the game, it was us covering them.

And they didn't rest anyone. Dangerfield was (allegedly) sick and spent time on the bench in the fourth but that was it.

Why do people have to minimise our win?

Did not want to play Geelong again but if we play at our best we will win and win big.

With the Rat brought in by the Cats, I think Smith will stay in to release Lever.

I have just watched a pathetic semi final so why is my MFCSS running so hot ?

Not worried, Geelong were average tonight.

If we cant beat them comfortably (4-5 goals) then we wont win the flag.

Are we not forgetting they played with basically their full squad against the Giants who were missing, Toby Greene, Tom Green, Jessie Hogan, Sam Reid, Xavier O’Halloran, Brent Daniels, Nick Shipley and Braydon Preuss.

Yes my MFCSS is in overdrive right now but having said that the Cats were lucky not to face a fully fit Giants outfit and it’s not surprising they won by 35.

I'm trying to slap myself out of the feeling that we're going to win this easily and put ourselves in a Grand Final. Surely, surely not?

Yep, full strength minus Stewart (and Parfitt going down early). Plus had the extra day break, and didn't exactly exert themselves last week whereas GWS played a hugely intense game vs Sydney.

My MFCSS is also strong right now, but objectively there are plenty of reasons we can/should be confident.

Struth I hope we don't get those umpires next week, kept Geelong in it al night

Definitely a huge worry game for me.

Last time they didn't have Touhy, Duncan and Rata.

Joel Smith will stay now especially Big sav down there. Bowey for me is still the vulnerable one down back. I said Hibbo last week but if Jayden Hunt is ready then I'd bring him to give us some speed out of the back half.

Our defence and mids have to be really switched on from get go.

so they'll definitely lose parfitt and bring back...higgins? simpson?

losing parfitt is massive for their mids as he's starting rotation

can't see stewart or o'connor being a threat

they spent a fair bit of timing just bombing it forward with those foursome of talls - hawkins, cameron, ratugolea, rohan - up front but i think that plays right into our hands, particularly if rohan pushes up the ground to use his pace and allows lever to zone off

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
