For mine, this is straight forward : Salem for Jetta (an odd selection), Lockhart if Salem not fit and Sparrow for Melksham (I've run out of patience with this guy).

I would have said Pickett but maybe he gets a reprieve. I still think Nathan Jones can add something.

Maybe give JJ a rest but he could learn something next week from the dogs midfield.

It's hard to call but Ben brown hopefully plays well tomorrow because we didn't get him to the club to play for casey

Jetta must go. He is a liability. In one contest he went to ground without being touched twice.

What about leaving Weed in and bringing back BB?

Weed is much better as a second/third forward, then a main FF

Hope Viney is ready to come back we will need him.

Bit harsh on Weid who had some ok moments but he doesn't clunk marks and doesn't find any easy ball. Brown is a Docklands specialist.

Sparrow should've been picked over Melksham for weeks. We can't carry a taller forward line and a forward/midfielder like Melksham who doesn't tackle and doesn't crack in.

Re Harsh on Weid, the guy has had 5 years for a few good and 1 great game! He needed to fire tonight and didn't!! Time to play and perservere with a guy who is a proven forward and Goal Kicker Ben Brown!! Melksham almost never again!

I really hope Salem is ok for next week, we looked really lost without him and sadly (because he has been a warrior for us) Jetta is past it.

Weid barely got a look at it tonight, poor delivery at times but we looked like we regressed to kicking long in hope. My instincts are to bring in Brown but I worry about the dogs pace out of defence and Brown is painfully slow. Sadly Weid gave us nothing tonight.

If Brown plays well for Casey:

In Salem, Brown

Out Jetta, Weid

I've been open minded on Weed and I was there when he produced the goods against Hawthorn and Geelong in those two memorable finals.

However, he's been in the system 5 (?) years and has played 40+ games but apart from some cameos cannot produce consistently. He does not clunk enough marks for a key forward and, IMO, is a poor reader of the play.

Come September a big key forward can make the difference.

BBB is a proven key forward. He has to be be given the opportunity to get to know our system and players. I would persevere with him and scrap Weed at this stage.

Do people really think Brown instead of Weideman would have made a difference today? Weed at least put some pressure on unlike Brown would have. I’d keep the fwd line the same.

We are playing with four talls.

Fritsch is the fourth tall.

He doesn’t chase enough, he doesn’t compete on the ground - and it’s actually worse because his opponent is invariably a player who can rebound and get involved in transition - whereas a Weid or a Brown would have a taller opponent more unlikely to do that.

I am a system coach - everyone has to buy in and no one gets to avoid the tenets just because they ‘are good for 2/3 goals...’

He needs to lift or find himself continue to be a liability.

I note that Melk was off for the last part of the quarter getting his ankle strapped and he may not come up next week. How can anyone here ignore Fritch, he is currently a liability? He doesn't chase or tackle and of late isn't marking. Sadly Never is finding the pace too quick and the game has passed him by. So outs from those 3

Let's see who stands up tomorrow. I hope Salem was precautionary soreness and he returns. There is enough marking power up forward so Fritch can go to Casey and bring in Sparrow, at least he puts his body on the line and contributes. Not sure about Melk, hope Viney returns soon.

Spargo played his role as usual and was one of the few to hit a target, absolutely no chance he gets dropped.

Same goes for Petty and Hunt. If we had to reheat the ancient Jetta to find a 7th defender we aren't going to suddenly find 2 more in the next 6 days.

I love Spargo but thought he struggled to have any impact today. 8 touches with 4 clangers and a turnover would put him in the conversation this week IMO. Doesn't mean he gets dropped, but his name will come up.

And as I said, Hunt and Petty will likely stay due to credits in the bank and necessity.

Couldn't agree more.  All the chat about Gawn's dropped mark, or May's lack of body on Tex, or the other 200 mistakes made tonight and yet the single biggest issue for mine was that Fritsch decided not to be a team player tonight.  The easy give was on and he chose the grubber which was picked off easily on the goal line.  Pretty much all of the other errors were forgivable because they weren't deliberate actions.  Fritsch's was and I thought that was even more disappointing than the umpires non decision.  It flies in the face of team v individual.

I’m staggered we dropped BB ahead of Weid to begin with. A lot of revisionist history going on with Weid - apart from one good final many years ago and a couple of OK performances in the hub he’s been largely irrelevant. There’s also not many I’d have behind him to kick for my life. BB had 5 goals in 3 games largely in poor conditions  and is a proven performer at AFL level.

Happy to trust the coaches for any other calls but that one was a howler and I hope they amend it ASAP.

In: Salem, Sparrow

Out: Jetta, Melksham (inj)

Viney comes in if fit, Jordon out (unlucky but had a shocker and could do with a rest perhaps)

For the dangerous player he can be, Fritsch has become a massive liability defensively. Perhaps a statement will be made here?

Hunt and Fritta will be discussed at selection.

Both were disgraceful today. Fritsch 2/3 shockers which was what BBB produced before his omission.

Do we go back to a single tall TMac and Bailey as our 2nd tall.

We looked so dangerous wil 4 smalls. We hunted the footy and the defender.

As soon as we brought in BB and then Weid we have lost the ability to keep the ball inside our 50 in dangerous positions.

We are just too tall with a resting ruckman in for the forward 50 also.

KOZI, SPARGO, NIBS, TMAC, BAILEY AND BEDFORD??

Salem straight in for Nev.

Thanks Nev but never again.

Treloar injured for doggies which will help our cause big time

He looks as happy as Larry on the  bench.

Would be surprised if his injury is anything serious.

Forget Bedford. He’s not up to it and IMO, never will be. Remember, not every recruit is going to make it.

Out: MELK MELK MELK MELK FFS MELK, Weid, Jetta

In: Viney, BB, Salem.

You'd hope for both Salem and Viney in, which makes a real difference to our whole operations.

I'm a Fritsch fan but that's too many stinkers recently to ignore. If he's not going to do the work required of a medium forward then I'd rather have a genuine tall forward in for him instead.

Melksham was good for a quarter but barely sighted once the sun went down.

Sadly, Jetta didn't do enough to be at AFL level.

Out: Fritsch, Melksham, Jetta,

In: Brown, Viney, Salem.

That's a big difference.

It’s Pink Lady night at Princes Park — a vibey Friday evening setting for a high-stakes clash between second-placed Melbourne and eleventh-placed Essendon. The wind-sheltered IKON Park, a favourite ground of the Demon players, promises flair, fire and a touch of pink. Melbourne has never lost a home-and-away game here, though the ghosts of two straight-sets finals exits in 2023 still linger.

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
