Nor is Huge contract offered to petracca.

He has gone from one of the best players in tbe AFL. To one of the best 5, arguably 3.

Max must be in the conversation for top 5 too.

...and Oliver at 1, we're looking good.

As long as Tracc has seen it, it doesn’t matter if it’s leaked. Irrelevent.

Goodvibes has leaked it here anyway

Journo’s read these pages

If it’s a good deal he will take it very seriously

This afternoon the Club tabled an offer to CP that if accepted would essentially make him a Demon for life.
Stay alert as the offer is so attractive, we might get a prompt acceptance.

Hoping this is true. Source? Regardless, there is this effervescent aura that refreshingly permeates above all speculation. I have no doubt that CP, like us all, has a whiff, let alone a taste, that we are finally onto something grand. Get on the train if you haven't already. Stay on it if you are. This is such a good ride...

@Rod Grinter Riot Squad what makes you so sure this isn't a strategic leak from the club? If it becomes public knowledge, it does put some pressure on Christian to sign. If that's the case, I'm not sure it's the greatest strategy, but I don't think we have enough information to know whether it's necessarily bad that there's been a leak.

All his best mates are signed up, the team is playing really well and the future looks very bright.

He'll sign for sure.

Wow, we put forward a contract...

Most likely not first offer, not exciting if it has leaked so quickly...

Who gives a [censored] if it is leaked? Hardly information others can use against us

A long term deal for Petracca would be awesome!

Sign him up while we’re winning!!

collingwood can go [censored] themselves

What's with the carry-on about the "leak". Talk about burying the lede.

Good news. Be interesting to hear the details around how it leverages him into a Demon for life.

And you know this, how?

I assume he bumped into trac at a 7/11.

In any event seems pretty obvious the club would be putting a big offer on the table and working to sign him up for the long term.

Petracca might.

Leaking from within the club is never a good sign. However, we don't know whether this particular leak (if it's even true) came from the club, Petracca's manager, his family or even from within the AFL.

Salem turned his back on FA when the 5 yr deal was put in front of him, Petracca may well do the same.

Might have been clever sequencing from the Dees to sign up CP's two best mates at the club before putting the contract in front of him.

It's been really good work by the club to lock Salem and Oliver away so early (and hopefully Trac soon), it takes the oxygen out of any speculation and allows the club to have singular focus on performing on the field. Brilliant.

I thought he'd wait until next year when he becomes a free agent.

Another poster out it well re Oliver re-signing. They said the offer should reflect that we value him without compromising our list to ensure we are well placed for success. To this end it is irrelevant what Track could earn as a free agent if he is happy with the offer we are able to out forward as it would be to the clubs, and therefore his detriment, if we have to compete with free agent bids and thereby compromise our list in order to retain him.

For mine, if it is true that the club has tabled an offer to Trac it would be on the basis that there is already a common ground on what it looks like in terms of years and $, there would be minimal negotiation, and I'd think it would be announced soon.

Yep. Great point. Offer him the contract we will have to offer him at the end of next year.

Hopefully he signs it now and we can focus on setting up the rest of the list and for a stab at a free agent.

Emotion aside, if you're Trac why sign now?  He's not out of contract till the end of next year.  Unless he gets injured, his value is going to continue to rise and until we make finals and win finals, we (and he) doesn't know if our current form is a flash in the pan or if we have really turned the corner.

Do you think he can get any better? Maybe marginally. For me, it is more about doing what he is doing week in/week out - which strictly speaking makes him better by being reliably consistent - and maybe kicking some bags. So you factor this in to the offer now, as well as a Brownlow and Norm Smith value capture, just in case. Knock out offer now.

Some players don't like having contracts hanging over their heads. They don't like the pressure it adds to their performance. Then journo's start writing articles and speculate why said person hasn't signed on etc. Better to sign early so you can just focus on your training and football and forgetting all that Fugazi.

It was a very specific post (tabled “this afternoon”) and so I was curious as to how the poster came across the info... did I ask him to name names?

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
