Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Hobart forecast.

Winds up to 20 knots.

Thats a strong wind.

Dont worry ,Nth two's were abysmal last night. Melb will win by 3 or 30 goals. Umps will likely be the best three players for Nth.

Where do you get your weather reports from?? Currently the predicted weather for Hobart on Sunday is:

Top temp of 18c, 4% chance of rain, NE winds up to 10kph, 69% humidity.

I'll set the over/under on the game time it takes for concern about his lack of tackling and pressure at 4 minutes.  Luckily, he replaces Melksham whose line is usually set at 2 minutes. 3/4 goals a game is his key benchmark imo.

Brown has never average 3 goals a season

You are setting the bar pretty high there. Hawkins only averages 2.2

Yes........and then after a lot of consideration a solid 'no' as well.

We brought Ben Brown in for a purpose. The players know this also.

If he wasn't injured round 1 - he would have been in as a default.

Time to develop synergy as a team with Ben in it....(and personally Sam at some stage also.)

I'm hoping Ben has been drinking  this stuff

I'd say we'd be home. Usually he has Cecil running interference on the sidelines without anyone really knowing.
How do you think the Roos rolled us for all those years? ☝️:D

Weather forecast turning sour. Rain and strong winds possible Sunday afternoon.  Having 3 talls could backfire on us. North will relish it. Havent Sportsbet heard of Bass Strait and Tasmanian weather.

I bet alot of money is going on North this week. Poor weather and sympathetic umps might keep them in the game.

Are you serious?

The current weather forecast is:
Min 12
Max 21
Possible late shower.
Possible rainfall: 0 to 1 mm
Chance of any rain: 40% http://www.bom.gov.au/images/ui/weather/rain_40.gif

I agree I wouldn't be backing Melbourne at $1.02, but I wouldn''t be backing North at $13 either. If Sportsbet has the odds correct, to achieve a $100 return by backing both teams you would need to gamble $106 (roughly). Break even is something like $1.05 Melbourne and $20 North.

No. I'm with Simon Goodwin. We should always be looking at ways of improving the team. Richmond won the premiership in 2017 and were the best side in 2018 but they still got Tom Lynch in with obvious positive results.

I agree you don't take risks with a winning team against a proven opponent (like Richmond) so once Bayley Fritsch and Stephen May proved their fitness we were right not to make any further change. But, basically it's now or never. We didn't recruit Ben Brown to play for Casey. And if we operate at 80% because he doesn't gel first week in then we should still win comfortably. I reckon Casey could beat the North Melbourne senior team at the moment with the latter's injuries and lack of form.

There was a mini-patch of closely fought games in the back half of Roos' first season as coach in 2014. Salem's famous sealer in a 1-point victory over the Dons, and two losses within a kick against the Bulldogs and Port (incidentally our current top-of-the-ladder competition) - from memory due to [censored] efforts from the Bont and Jay Schulz. As cited by the AFL, these games ultimately cost us a priority pick, despite only winning something like four matches against non-expansion clubs over the prior three seasons. Still, thanks to St Kilda, we would walk away from that draft with Christian Petracca, along with as Angus Brayshaw as compensation for James Frawley. (If we did receive a third compo pick, there's a good chance it would have been spent on Jake Lever). Anyways, my original point: in the middle of that patch of close games we also played North Melbourne, in the debut of Ben Brown.

There’s something really poetic about Brown debuting in his home state against his former side.

I still think BBB holds a key to premiership glory.  GF gets to a new level.  BBB can either go missing or get 4 or 5 to possibly nail it for us.

Sometimes he is looking on fire. The first goal v Lions. His run and marking up the ground has been good.

But other times his fumbles and lack of contest (one arm up) can be disappointing.  His miss v Lions from 12 metres out was frustrating as it could have killed the lions early. He could have kicked 4 on the night.

I can see BBB being a real key over the next two games.  Hope he can seize the opportunity.

Could have easily kicked 4 last night.

2 were touched and Ben didn't hear the call, and missed a shot he usually eats up.

Played on Harris Andrews and did a fantastic job negating his influence and taking him higher up the ground.

His field kicking is bloody impressive also. His kick to Tmac was all class.

Yep, my only  moments of frustration about Brown was when he took marks around about 65-75 out and slowly ambled around in the last quarter when Harmes was clearly free if he just popped it over, and another time it occurred with someone else streaming in.

But perhaps it was a policy to just eat up time...

Nine marks from the bloke.

And your right he was unlucky with not hearing the whistle. He had time to play on if he had.

Norf were nuts to let this bloke go.

And I reckon we haven't seen him at his best yet.

He’s back to a point now where he’s grabbing the ball at the top of his reach. He’s a massive dude, I wouldn’t want to be trying to outmark him.

He works his butt off when he pushes up the ground too. I’m getting accustomed to see him impacting a contest at half back, then 20 seconds later impacting it at half forward, or getting on the end of one. His best MFC footy is still ahead of him I reckon.

Hard to believe we got him basically for free.

It ended up being Tyson for Brown (with Preuss in between and some other picks thrown around) over a few years.

He played his role last night and is definitely allowing Fritta to be more of a threat. That miss from 15m on a slight angle though…🤦‍♂️

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
