Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Is there any info from training? There does not seem to have been any training threads for weeks.

I dont get it it, this is from April the 15th:

Melbourne forward Bayley Fritsch will miss the Demons’ Round 5 clash with Hawthorn after sustaining a fractured hand at training on Thursday.

Fritsch will undergo surgery on Thursday evening and is expected to spend one to two weeks on the sidelines.

Fractured hand + surgery and only one week out?

Yep. Only 2.
richmond very good defensively, especially running from their defensive 50.
so not optimal to bring in people who have played less than 2 games in prep and also under the heat of that game.
also the current forward structure has worked well (except accuracy).
have a feeling brown or weed in next week and/or when injuries or poor form warrant it.

Makes sense.

Particularly when the tall options - Weed and Brown, have shown an aversion to tackling and applying pressure.

We simply have to apply maximum inside 50 pressure to beat Richmond.

One to trap it inside our 50 when possible (and create scoring chances in doing so), but perhaps more importantly disrupt their  exits from our 50.

If they are allowed to waltz it our 50 it will become so much harder to set up ahead of the ball and slow down their transition.  And we will get flogged.

Which by the by, is why any talk of ANB or Spargo being dropped is pure poppycock.

It's hardly ''leaking''.

For decades Saturday teams were released on Thursdays.

We bloody well should know by now anyway.

Bloody oath we should. It is frustrating they don't at least release the squads.

There is talk that this club driven thing but that doesn't ring true. All clubs would have a handle on who their opposition's likely squad of 25 players would be.

I would say that melksham and jones know they are under the pump to play well.
T Mac is in the same boat.
LJ less so as he plays ruck and I do it think the club wants weed or brown in the ruck. although weed could possibly play LJs role, just not with as much athleticism

I'm in the 'May for Petty, Weideman for M.Brown' crowd, and also if available Fritsch for Melksham. However, I won't be too upset if Melksham stays in as he began to show a bit of what he is useful for and Melksham in form is a killer half-forward.

Figuring out how to fit B.Brown in will be a challenge in coming weeks, and soon enough Harmes will come in for Jones 'rested' but other than that there's not much to fidget with.

I guess that's what 5-0 looks like.

Would seem to be at least 3; Petty, M Brown and Sparrow didn’t train. Fritta, May, Weid and Chandler did. And there were 24 training so must be a question over one of them.

Not necessarily. 22 players. One medical sub. And an emergency

I am unsure of who will be the emergencies, but May and Fritsch will be in the starting lineup/bench

Opinion or source-based?

Not sure about Harmes getting Jones' spot. We may find that we need to roll TMac or Jackson up the ground to fit B Brown/Weideman into the forward line.

Sparrow was the sub and we haven't made anyone the sub in consecutive weeks when they didn't play (Sparrow was the sub vs Geelong as well as Hawthorn, but played 60%-odd after May went down).

So you'd therefore think that Sparrow will either get into the 22 or play for Casey this week.

I would suggest it might rain too, so having a more mobile forward set up will likely cause greater headaches for Richmond's defence. I'm happy with this selection decision.

I also like this approach. It’s aggressive, and shows plenty of confidence in those who have us sitting  5 zip.  We need match hardened players against the tiggies, and one or two good performances in a very much weaker VFL competition doesn’t necessarily ‘cut it’, regardless of your name.  How long has it been since we have had the ‘depth’ to make this sort of call at selection?

Pretty sure Fritsch went into Epworth the night he fractured his hand & had a plate of some description put in. So the bone's essentially protected & the issue is how quickly he recovers from the surgical wound. In that context, missing one game is not unreasonable.

After his start to this year, no way.

He will be playing Saturday night, unless a mystery injury, but then he wouldn't be playing for Casey either.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
