There was a post about this way back in September last year.  It looks like we were probably lucky to keep him with us for this season.

this has been flagged for some time and is no surprise

Yep, I'm sure the middle ground has always been that if you want to be released from your contract to go back then you give us 1 more year (2021) to learn from your methods and also appoint someone to shadow you / take over.

edit: Like the well considered note by Gary Pert on this

Weird. Why does Stephen Dank's bonce appear in this photo? He doesn't appear in the original post (at least, not for me).

Hasn't the AFL (or at least individuals within) matured. I commend Gary Pert for the way the letter was written.

There was no way this would have been written to the public 5 years ago...

Also mods - can we please change the title of this thread to reflect the situation more accurately.

Good on our Club for getting on the front foot and clarifying the situation, and damnation to the Media (especially CW) for their gutter journalism.

It's the first posted image (on page two) in the topic... I guess the linking set up here looks for an image to accompany the post.

This statement by Pert demonstrates that Ms Wilson is pedalling half truths.  She is not adding to the discourse, and hopefully backs off this and lets Burgo get on with it.  IF he goes EOY, that would be a loss, but not an insurmountable one. (Richmond have won three flags without him!).  The club have been spot on with their communication on this one.

I just listened to the Gus & Gawny Podcast with Darren

There is definitely no bad blood between him and the Club, if he goes back to Radelaide it will be for family reasons.
Hopefully the club can reach a compromise with him. (Last year proved compromises were very possible). If not he can assist in finding an A Grade replacement

Whoops someone else already posted the PERT link

ME SILLY

Well, here's my two cents. It takes 2-3 seasons for a program to mature. We looked fit in 2020 and we look fitter again now. If we're close to maturation as a club and a team and Burgess sees one more season as bringing a program to fruition, he'll stay for 2022. If results this year are mediocre and suggesting a mediocre 2022, he'll go.

Anyone interested in Burgo should check out the Brukie and Burgo podcast. Fascinating for anyone interested in sport and the  people involved at the top level.

Is "Brukie" otherwise known as Peter Brukner, former MFC club doctor (amongst other things)?

Yes 'dazzle', Caro's a bit late to the party on this one.

Hardly being poached but it makes a better headline I guess.

To Eddie's credit at the end of the breathless spiel by Caro, Eddie noted that personal reasons were behind the move and Burgess needs to have some privacy. Of course he was always going to leave, and credit to him he stayed the course for 2012.He didn't have to.

But gee his efforts are showing in how the team performs fitness wise

Yep.

The Club would like to take the unusual step to clarify his current circumstances, in the hope Darren will be afforded the appropriate level of privacy by the industry.”

I love this dig at the media, basically saying the conversations are ongoing and respectful on both sides, allow them to be carried out with respect for privacy. Sounds like Darren is just trying to do right by his family while continuing to have the career he would like.

Big loss, no doubt. I really hope he's grooming a successor that's going to be able to use all his tricks.

Port supporter here Googling Burgess because I desperately want him back.

Can confirm it’s the man that works the magic, he left us his tricks and appointed a team to replace him; in 2014/15 we were in your position fitness wise and we now struggle to run out quarters.

He supposedly was in close contact with the team he left and giving pointers, but we felt his loss rapidly when he went to Liverpool.

Kane Cornes (yeah yeah [censored] alert) wrote in his autobiography about a random club dinner he went to where a can of Coke was put in front of every player; Burgess had put them there to test the group, and the next day punished the players who drank the cans without thinking.

The guy creates a culture and players respect him.

Burgess is next level - he is absolutely the reason behind our hard finishing fourth quarters.

Players text him to find out the order in which they need to eat their vegetables during each meal - it’s ridiculous.

We won’t be able to replace him (with someone remotely commensurate) if and when he leaves.

"Random teal intruder" - lol, I love it!

Tell your boys that you have Rodney's support in your fight against Eddie McGuire to wear the prison bars jumper in any freaking game you want to wear it (it's better than Collingwood's anyway).

Depending on the result, you may or may not be so welcome around her in another 4 weeks time, but thanks for your interesting insights into Burgo.

Personally i would sign a petition for the prison bar jumper just to give Eddie the (further) sads. If the club launched an appeal to fund moving his family’s from SA, I would pay.

He's worth every cent.

After head coach i reckon it's the most important role at the club. it'll be very difficult to replace him but i suggest we target the next best high performance manager in the league.

Burgess is (deservedly) paid more than enough to move his family if that was an option. It's not.

  • REPORT: Fremantle

For this year’s Easter Saturday game at the MCG, Simon Goodwin and his Demons wound the clock back a few years to wipe out the horrible memories of last season’s twin thrashings at the hands of the Dockers. And it was about time! Melbourne’s indomitable skipper Max Gawn put in a mammoth performance in shutting out his immediate opponent Sean Darcy in the ruck and around the ground and was a colossus at the end when the game was there to be won or lost. It was won by 16.11.107 to 14.13.97. There was the battery-charged Easter Bunny in Kysaiah Pickett running anyone wearing purple ragged, whether at midfield stoppages or around the big sticks. He finish with a five goal haul.

  • CASEY: UWS Giants

The Casey Demons took on an undefeated UWS Giants outfit at their own home ground on a beautiful autumn day but found themselves completely out of their depth going down by 53 points against a well-drilled and fair superior combination. Despite having 15 AFL listed players at their disposal - far more than in their earlier matches this season - the Demons were never really in the game and suffered their second defeat in a row after their bright start to the season when they drew with the Kangaroos, beat the Suns and matched the Cats for most of the day on their own dung heap at Corio Bay. The Giants were a different proposition altogether. They had a very slight wind advantage in the opening quarter but were too quick off the mark for the Demons, tearing the game apart by the half way mark of the term when they kicked the first five goals with clean and direct football.
