Welcome to Demonland - Picks 18 & 19

I was pleasantly surprised with this pick swap. It puts us in a strong position as I was not expecting the Demons to have any picks in the first round of the 2020 AFL draft.

There will still be plenty of talent around with picks #18 and #19 in the 2020 AFL draft.

I know Archie Perkins has been spoken about, but not sure if he will slip down to us. However, you never know.

Finlay McCrae would be very handy. Especially as he is supposed to be an excellent kick of the football and that is something that we are crying out for at the Demons.

Personally, I am keen on Nik Cox who is the son of former Fitzroy, Melbourne and Brisbane player Darryl Cox. He would develop nicely playing for the Casey Demons and then be ready to play as either a forward or a defender in a few years time.

Anyway, smart move by the Demons and it will be interesting what our recruiter Jason Taylor does.

Except for one who needs to match a bid for a top 5 pick.

if what you are referring to is Ugle-Hagan points, would the Bulldogs be stupid enough to trade Dunkley for material that is going to be consumed in the bidding process?  It makes no sense whatsoever.

Not being critical, but I dislike the whole “First round pick” thing.

As reflected by the points for draft picks, which is not the be all and end all, there is a chasm between a pick 5 and a pick 18. But they are both first rounders.

Back to the trade, if Melbourne are backing themselves in to be in finals next year (which they must) and do something with 18 and 19 it looks good.

Move up in 2020 with 18 and 19 (or a different later pick) together, or perhaps trade back into 2021 first round with someone Melbourne thinks will drop in 2021 like a Collingwood or maybe a Bulldogs (not sure if they even have their 2021 first).

A nice clear summary (I've removed the pocket fluff details)

step 1
swap 4th into third this year in exchange for going third to fourth next year
step 2
gain 2nd and third round picks for future second and fourth roud pick
step 3
future 3rd rounder for hannan
step 4
second rounder for Preuss
step 5
gain 25 for 31 and 43
Step 6
Brown in for 33
Step 7
18, 19 and future second, for 25 and future first

My take on this is that Brisbane don't rate this draft pool or MFC getting better - hopefully wrong on both counts

They have an Academy player who could be bid from 15 onwards and with the list size shrinkage and possibility the AFL wont force clubs to take three draft choices, I wouldn't come to that conclusion.

What will 18 and 19 become after all the special and added picks

There are three certain academy players who will go before and two other strong possibilities.  Gold Coast will probably list their academy players on the rookie list and don't need points nor will push the order back.

I wouldn't suggest that they would trade Dunkley just for points. But if they had got 8 and a future 1st like they wanted for him then they would have wanted to trade 8 out until the bid comes so that it doesn't get absorbed.

Commentary around this yrs draft is that it’s light and doesnt run deep at all but next season it runs very deep.

Not sure what we are going to do with 18 and 19 but I hope JM knows what he is doing as we have no first rounder again next season at this stage.

pies will have to get out at some stage but i rkn we will get the same number of 2nd/3rd rounders in trades next year and we'll just bundle and bundle and eventually get back in. mahoney got it on lock, he runs this ship

im confused. can we trade these picks or are we officially ended with pick 18, 19?

Can trade them. I think up until a week before the draft and then again on the night.

Look for us to move up if/when we identify a talent somewhere in the 7-12 range I'd imagine.

Perkins & Macrae are out of reach at our current set of picks, so wouldn't be surprised if we moved up.

If we stand pat, Poulter & Dumesny could have some appeal:

As it stands, we have two list spots for draft picks.  It is likely Oscar will be delisted but there is very little likelihood we remain at 18 and 19 and that one if not both are different.

We’re in a race with the Pies to find a trading partner further up the draft.

Can see them moving up quite high as their ‘21 pick will also be on the table.

Reckon Fremantle at 12 or GWS at 10 are our best bets. Chance that Macrae could be in play at that range.

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

    GAMEDAY: Rd 07 vs Richmond

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.
