Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Why, they know what they are talking about. I actually think they are two of the best. Know the game, know the players, know culture, speak to players, know what is needed.

Agreed. They named what  has been said on here for a while ie We seem to have fallen into being a team of champions , especially in the middle.  Let’s hope this can be turned around.

What is concerning is we as the keyboard warriors watching through our TV's can see this yet our coaches don't or do try to fix and players ignore instructions or do and don't think it is an issue

Hard to find fault with anything Lloyd and Cornes have said here.

Interesting comments from Lloyd on Eddie Betts and how he has been instrumental in attracting Martin and Williams to the club. Great example of how the value a senior player brings goes beyond on-field performance. Very smart from Carlton. Jones detractors take note please.

Not a detractor of Jones, but I don't think Betts and Jones are related at all ;). If this was precedent then this year players would be wanting to join Melbourne because Nathan Jones was here haha. I think Jones will be playing VFL and helping mentor/coach younger developing players rather than winning games in the AFL for us. So as a prospective player he would rate very very low on my desire to come to Melbourne, potentially not at all.

Hmm can you tell me which of our mid field is a champion please? I see some good players but I would not call any of them champions.

Agree re Jones role in 2021

My point was more that on-field performance was not the sole consideration when giving Jones an extra year

"Oscar (McDonald) has been squeezed out. At his age I am hoping he could be a delisted free agent if a trade can't get done" - Alex McDonald

"Tom (McDonald) did start his career in defence. His breakout year was a bit of wing, ruck and forward. If Ben (Brown) came in, it would mean that Tom would have to move back to another position or perhaps find another club" - Alex McDonald

"Tom has two years to go on his contract. Probably the way Melbourne have structured up with Weideman and Jackson meant his opportunities were limited. He wants opportunity moving forward" - Alex McDonald

"It's fair to say Tom's (Phillips) role has dried up in his traditional wing spot. He has a year to go on the contract. The club has been great and said there could be game. If he wants to play wing we might need to see if there's better options elsewhere" - Alex McDonald

Has Nate Jones been instrumental in attracting key players? Which ones exactly?

Think Eddie and Jones are in very different leagues regarding their standing in the game. No disrespect to Jones

Thought this was interesting:

"All three deals Smith has been weighing up are similar financially, though as mentioned Melbourne’s is one year longer".

I'd take the 2 year contract if the $ were similar in total to 3 years and avoid putting in an extra years work.

And if a 4th flag is important then Geelong is a much better prospect. By the time we make a GF he may not even be selected or even be at the club.

All roads lead to Geelong.

Not so sure...think 2020's short quarters may have been to Geelong's advantage; kinder to 'older legs'.

Guess we'll be in a better situation to gauge that next year.

I would still back Geelong's chances of winning a flag as being higher than ours during Smith's remaining playing years which are probably 2021/22.  In his 3rd contract year with us, 2023 he may no longer be best 22.

I'd take that as meaning all three clubs are offering the same $ per year.

Why?

I took it as ours is probably a bit higher than others and/or there are some sweetners in our deal eg a better spread across the contract years, extra amounts if he exceeds certain number of games etc etc.

I would say Clarry is very close or on the cusp OD but that's about it.  Tracc not too far away but still a bit of consistency needed yet.

In my view a champion is one who can give an A grade, or very very close to it, performance 8/9 out of 10 matches or thereabouts.

Clarry is definitely performing in that sense most weeks, regardless of how well the others are doing.  Ok so not at a match winning level a la Martin when he turns it on or a Danger.  But in a slightly offbeat way vs those two he does turn it on week in and out for us with very few exceptions.  He was easily the most consistent player for us this year and IMHO should have easily taken out another Bluey.

If we put him in a top fourish side he would be taking his finish and game to a slightly higher level again or would be getting the extra assists to do so imv.

In that instance he would also be getting the additional kudos and probably star status that we don't see / hear too much about at the moment as he is playing with a pretty ordinary side which doesn't win very often.  And in the end that's pretty much all the scribes/crtics care about, and most of the fans too.  One could argue this was a significant contributing factor as to why Robbie never won a brownlow.

Must admit, I'm really enjoying Damo's segment with SOS & Matt Rendell. There's a tonne of list management experience and knowledge that comes through (despite the odd Rendell gaffe).

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
