Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

He'd the mad to nominate the Saints. They're spoilt for pacey forward types at the moment. Why not go somewhere where you'd be highly valued (aka the Dees).

Because we are not a destination club. The inner sanctum of the footy community knows we are a basket case.

Gee how does Adem Yze get to join this "inner sanctum" then?

spoilt for depth maybe... but so are we, i mean dean kent played more games than not this year for them so they can definitely fit him in the 22

Once again, a lot of talk and speculation today with few highlights. Here are some points that of interest from AFL Trade Radio’s day -

* Bombers will find it difficult to get the Dogs talking for Josh Dunkley. Draft picks won’t do it because any picks they can give will get absorbed for Next Generation Academy prospect and prospective number one draft selection Jamarra Ugle-Hagan and a player swap won’t do it either because Essendon doesn’t have the players who will make a difference for the Dogs like Josh Dunkley does;

* The names Lochie O'Brien and Paddy Dow are part of the Saad trade conversations;

* GWS believed to be the likely 2021 destination of Jesse Hogan; and

* Richmond will release Jack Higgins and the Saints are said to be the most appropriate suitors.

St Kilda weren't a "destination club" until players showed up there last year.

We've attracted Langdon, Tomlinson, May and Lever in the last three off-seasons with, potentially, some more players to come this year.

I don't buy your argument.

Wasn’t for sale Titan. Just my humble opinion. St Kilda weren’t a destination club until they threw massive cash at players - same for Carlton. In the end I think it will burn them as they may not be able to keep their better players when contracts needs to be renewed.

Yep.

You can add Hibberd and Melksham to the list too.  We’ve done alright getting the players we’ve been after the last few years.

everyone does seem to forget the players we're after that we don't get or the ones we're linked to that never really take off, it makes any clubs trade hall seem better than it is.

i dont have any exact examples but as a blanket rule

in terms of recruits that we've brought in we've not had many 'busts' of late

on the presumption that langdon and tomlinson do play for us in 2021 (and beyond), only kk and bennell will have played games in only one season at the club

generally speaking, players we've brought in have been regular, best 22 players for extended periods of time, the latter two plus preuss being the only non-success stories

You judge a trade by what you pay vs what you get in return.  Bugg, Wagner, McKenna, Mitchie and Balic were all steak knives, late picks and DFAs.  They didn’t come off, but we also gave up next to nothing for them.

Kennedy was a poor trade, but we were being held over a barrel on that one anyway.

So first of all Corey Wagner wasn't traded in. He was taken in the rookie draft I'm pretty sure after his B&F season at Casey the year after being delisted by North.

Balic cost us Pick 66 which Freo used to draft Tom North who never played a game. Nil all draw.

Michie cost pick 56 which Freo used to draft Brady Grey who played 21 games, the same as Michie for us. Also worth noting we got Michie in Roos first year where he was looking for immediate help and depth for our midfield. I'd say at worst it's a nil all draw, if not having us slightly ahead.

McKenna like Balic didn't play for us, but all we did to get him was a pick swap with GWS which we used to get Mitch Hannan and Dion Johnstone. GWS used the picks for Tiziani and Matt DeBoer. Maybe they came out slightly ahead, but barely I'd suggest.

Bugg came as steak knives in a trade that saw us get the pick we used to draft Weideman. In exchange the 3 picks GWS got gave them Matthew Kennedy (now Carlton), Matthew Flynn (delisted) and they passed on the pick we gave them in the 60's. A comfortable win for us IMO.

And finally while I'll concede the Kennedy trade was a bust in isolation with us giving up Howe and Toumpas for Kennedy, Pick 29 and the pick we used for Hulett. We shouldn't forget that we used Pick 29 in a packaged deal with Gold Coast to move up the draft order to secure Clayton Oliver, so again it makes it hard to complain about that trade.

So out of those 6 players you mentioned, I'd argue that the overall picture of each of them coming to the club was a win. Bar Wagner who wasn't traded in.

What you appear to be saying here is even clubs who are "destination clubs" are going to struggle.

I'm really not following your complaint about us.

Well then I'm not sure whether this is a fair point to raise.

Do you think we're the only club which has an interest in some players who ultimately don't come to the club?

You've already seen from @MadAsHell's post above that some of your gripes around so-called "stinker" trades don't really add up to a meaningful argument. But, again, do you think we're the only club which brings in players who ultimately struggle?

Any club looking at TMac will be looking to deploy him in his natural position of key defender. GWS need to replace Aiden Corr, if anything the Hogan news strengthens TMac to the Giants as they will likely be enthused by the prospect of surrounding him with a former team mate and familiar face.

That is true but I doubt it will be TMac's choice if the Dees want to offload and trade him.

My big concern in regards to offloading Tom is that that we might be stuck footing the bill for a good chunk of his salary.

I would hate for this to bite us in terms of landing other trade targets.

I think we will end up trading Tom for a 2nd or 3rd round draft pick, possibly even next year's. GWS have cash to splash with all the high profile trade requests they are copping over the past month; can't see there being an issue with them taking on Tom's salary if they get him on the cheap in a trade. Win win, frees up cap space for us and fills a positional need for them.

    ICEBREAKER by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have broken the ice for season 2024 with a pulsating come-from-behind victory over Port Melbourne in which it took the lead for the first time at the halfway mark of the final quarter. The game played in mild Autumn conditions in neutral territory at Kinetic Park, Frankston, never reached great heights in standard but it proved gripping in character at the end at the Casey Demons overcame the Borough to win by 15 points after trailing badly early in the second half.  P

The writing was on the wall from the very first bounce of the football. The big men went up, Max Gawn more often than not, decisively won the ruck hit out and invariably a Brisbane Lions onballer either won the battle on the ground or halved the contest and they went at it repeatedly until they finally won out. Melbourne managed the first goal from Alex Neal-Bullen but after that the visitors shut out every area of Demon presence around the ground except in the ruck duels. It was a mauling.
