Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Farewell Mitch Hannan

I suspect us trading Mitch for future 3rd is Part 1 of this deal...

with Part 2 involving us snaring the Doggies pick 12 for equivalent (or just overs) in points, once the Ben Brown and Preuss deals are done...

My guess is the trade will be Hannan + 68 for a future 3rd pick.

68 should come into the 50's and provide the doggies with more points this year for their academy selection while a future 3rd gives us trading flexibility as replacing that future 3rd round pick we traded to the lions allows us to trade our future first if we so wish.

So close!

Mitch Hannan  good skills with hands strong mark good goal sense and he could tackle. His form has not been great since  2018.

Wish him the best as he was an honest player for us. That goal  v Geelong is one l will always remember.

Good luck Mitch.

Gowers is delisted and Dale is the only pure forward there and he’s out of favour. With Cavarra a pressure type. Hannan’s either handy depth or allows them to move Richards to the backline, wing or on ball. Richards is very talented but ordinary as a forward

Smith (wing/back) and Duryea (back) are the kind of depth who would be handy for us. Although not as handy as the top dogs in those roles.

Bit of a bummer really, because there is clearly some talent there.

He just stagnated for whatever reason after showing some promise in his first 2 years.

Best of luck, and as others have said, thanks for probably our best "moment" in the last 20 or so years.

An interesting question in itself. What is everyone's best "moment" in the last 20 years or so? It's now just over 20 years since we last played in  a Grand Final, so in my assessment (but it doesn't have to be everyone else's view), it has to be something since then. It's testament to how few "moments" we've had that I'm struggling to come up with any.

I think I'll go with (believe it or not) Jack Watts' first game, or, at least, the lead up to it. That was so exciting although, like most things Melbourne, ultimately disappointing. Second on my list might be one of Jurrah's goals where he seemed to kick the ball over his head for a goal at the MCG.

And Hannan is actually on the list for something else. A clever mark on the lead he took in the final against Hawthorn which I think he then converted into a goal.

Hannan would never be in a MFC premiership side unless injuries occured in the finals, he was in the 2018 side because Kent got injuryed, not because he played great football.

If you look at the 2018 final against Geelong the ball was coming down the ground and the Geelong defender was in front and fell over making his life easier, in the other games in the finals he did not fire at all.

I wish him good luck but I am not one of his fans because he is a lazy footballer and an opportunist.

Dogs have sold him the dream of 3 years as a fringe player where we could only offer him 2. In his shoes we’d probably do the same.

afl article i read reported he signed for 2 there? which surprised me because i also thought it was the extra year (alongside the homecoming) that drew him

I wasn't aware of that Turner. I think we gave him every opportunity to nail down a permanent position during his time with us but if he thinks the grass is greener in Wefo then good luck to him.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
