Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Disagree with both of these comments bing.

It was a simply ridiculous decision to drop him for preuss. The fact that was wet just amplified the stupidity of that decision.

Not just becuase preuss is not a forward and is slow as wet week but alps becuase Pruess barely left inside 50 and brown gets on his bike and provides options and cover.

That decision was big factor in our inability to stop them crossing and not being able to stop their chains of uncontested possessions.

mind melting decision.

Could not agree more. I was just flabbergasted at that decision it made no sense and sums up the problems we face, not just players out of form but a coaching selection panel that consistently puts us at a disadvantage before the first bounce.

Except for when we got belted by Port.

I've said this in another thread, but I don't think Weid has played poorly at all, before tonight.

Tonight I felt he was outpositioned and unable to work his way into the contest.

However, we will go nowhere as a club without consistency forward of centre, and we can't rely on any two of Brown, Jackson and Weideman to do it. Weideman's got runs on the board and although he was poor tonight, he goes nowhere for mine.

Weed had two possessions against the swans and you don't think he played poorly?

Something interesting to note. Rivers post-game said the senior players were helping the kids defend. Then this from May:

Maybe, finally, some proper leadership?

I cant remember a player from ANY club who obviously hates losing as much as S.May.

Wears his heart on his sleeve and demands the best of every player on the field.

He is what we have been missing for years, and i wish we had a clone for the forward line as well as the midfield. Probably as close as we will get to having Luke Hodge in our team.

We should not have left it this late but that was a geat win tonight.

Not really, no.

It's not like he was getting the ball served up to him on a platter but was dropping it or fumbling it. Or running to the wrong spots. Across these last three weeks he's been consistently in the right spots but consistently unable to impact. He's not as far off as the stats suggest.

Our entire team structure in the Sydney and Fremantle losses was appalling, which contributes to the problem.

I'm not excusing his downturn in form completely, he needs to lift, but I don't for a second think we should be dropping him.

I can remember David Schwarz   used to play that way, towards the end of his playing days anyway.

Special mention to Joel Smith who shut down Elliot Himmelberg.  Kept him to 5 disposals and 0 goals.

Harry Himmelberg.

Not sure about how much of that was Smith's doing, but I will give credit where it is due, his fourth quarter was very good and a key part of us holding on.

Thats a spanking.   He seems to be shutting down his direct opponent the last few games.    Maybe hes a bit better than given credit for.

Look he makes me nervous as [censored] eveeytime he's in a won on won situations and loses his feet far too often. But he keeps it simple unlike Omac.

Still not sure if being a defender is his right position

Harry sorry.

I know at every center ball up from the behind the goal view, he was manning Himmelberg.  There were times he was caught out with Cameron and held his own well.

Smith had four disposals, three clangers and gave away two frees. His opponent being nullified was a result of a collective effort from our defence and poor entry from GWS, he shouldn’t play another game. Rivers was a steal.

That moment where Trac won a midfield HTB and then just flat-out sprinted forward. He has become a smart footy-player alongside Oliver. They both now do things that will hardly ever be noticed or respected. Oliver again with three or four breath-taking in-close moments tonight. This is the best mid-field pairing we've ever had in my life-time following the Dees.

That was a relief!

A hell of a see-sawing game that was!

Was very pleased with the young players Baker, Rivers, Pickett and Spargo.

In the end, just happy we won and after celebrating tonight the players should be back to normal tomorrow and preparing for another must win game "elimination final" against Essendon next week.

Gotta hope a few other results go our way too.

That may be so, but I'm not sure that Himmelberg had no impact because Smith blanketed him.

It wasn't like they were kicking to him and Smith kept spoiling him or anything like that (compare with May and Lever who were repeatedly cutting off GWS forward entries).

Still, better to have Himmelberg have no impact than some impact, and as I said, Smith was an important part of the overall defensive set up in the fourth quarter when we were under siege at times.

While he didn't hit the scoreboard, I thought Mitch Brown was good for us tonight.  13 touches and 7 marks and he got up the ground to give us a target as well.  His experience was on full display throughout this game.

Makes the decision to drop him last week for Preuss look even worse than it already did.

Totally agree, if Jacko is ready though, does he come back in for Brown, I think he does. He would be seriously unlucky but i rate jacko's versatility over Brown's experience.

Yeah look if it wasn't for Marty Hore not being injured, we would hardly see Smith playing.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
