This isn't a dig at SWYL's 4 year post which is a valid discussion point, but exactly 2 years ago was one of the best nights at the MCG for many of us in recent years...

I put this goal up there with some of the best sporting moments i've experienced live.

Let's not focus on what has followed since aha

This is the best MFC moment I have witnessed in person.
Even better that I was sitting in that forward pocket.

Haha, I potentially could (a round abouts anyway).

When Harmes & Selwood were having a stoush in that pocket, that was right in front of me, so somewhere there.

In terms of single happiest live moments this is right up there. 2000 and 2006 finals the memory was more of the final quarter as whole.

Was on the HFF, level 1 & 4 from the fence. When Hannan got that ball...................everyone stood up and cheered him home. Glorious.

The following week wasn't too bad either!!!

No point making finals if you aren't going to do anything in them. Yes i'm looking at you Essendrug last year ?.

There was an elderly woman in tears after this goal who was obviously a long suffering Demon fan and it put a tear in my eye and a lump in my throat . To me ,it the Best footy moment for many many years

I was on L2, on the other side of the goals to Hannan - the noise when that went through, took the roof off! I can watch that over and over and never tire of it. The Melbourne support was sensational that night - it was like a long-lost family getting together after 20 years.

Two years ago at the earlier game against the Cats where we lost at the end, I thought our midfield had taken the mantle from Geelong. I will stand corrected but think it was Viney/Brawshaw/Oliver V Ablett/Selwood/ Danger.  We matched it with the best and they all played slightly different roles. Not sure what has happened since.

More of this please.  Too many posters are really wallowing in their own self pity at the moment.  We know four days ago sucked.  There's no need to go back over every minute, negative detail to rub salt in the wound.

This was moment to savour, made all the more sweeter that we were able to roll Geelong so convincingly.

That was a mighty piece of commentary from Young Whately (against his own club!)

So much better than Ch 7...

(Commentators who work on the wireless are usually so much better)

Me and my boy were on level 1 at the 50, about 10 rows back.

My son (14) yesterday rated this moment his #1 highlight with his dad in his life so far.

Cracking couple of minutes that

The crowd as he took the ball and then the absolute thunder through the stadium once he slotted it. I'm pretty sure I popped one my only brain cells left from shouting incoherent superlatives too loud.

it’s great therapy to look at this again. the 88 prelim and this game were my lifetime two happiest sporting moments. a finals win w 92 k in at the G... and a young forward who stepped up and fomininated in the abcense of great white hope. the club i loved was back on its feet and going somewhere...  or so i thought. but let’s not dwell on that bit ! that night, getting to the ground and the  lead up to the game still feel like yesterday. at the ground jones came out an hour before the game started just to walk on the oval... and the members erupted just seeing him. He laughed... it was all such new optimistic heady territory.

That was a moment I'll never forget, on a night I'll never forget.

Those back to back games, with the build up, the atmosphere, the sound of a 90,000 pro-MFC crowd, exhilarating football, and the wins, were just incredible.

Two years ago Brisbane had just finished the season with five wins, how are we so far behind them now. Bloody hell I miss going to the footy even more lining up to get into the MCC for a a big finals match.

from memory they had also lost about 5 or 6 games by under a goal that year. so they were way better than they seemed. they then recruited both charlie cameron and lachie neil in the off season. A massive coup.

btw i miss the footy too... even the queing which i always hated.

Very very special. Watts goal vs Collingwood is only moment that comes close for me, even though it meant much less in the scheme of things. A reminder of why we keep coming back despite all the crap that this club puts out!

Agree on the commentary as a whole, but i actually didn't mind BT's call of this particular moment.

"50! 40! 30! 20! 15! Closing! Goal! Hannan's got it for the Demons!"  Iconic.  Two years later here we are.  Hannan in and out of a middle of the road side.

Steady on, I saw that clip, that woman is younger than me.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
