We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

I’m glad Fritsch got dropped...the amount of (gettable) clutch goals he misses is ridiculous

The midfield work their arze off to get the ball down there and he misses!

Play him back or not at all

Yeah he is getting in the way of TMac, Melk, Hannan, Spargo who would be kicking bags every week. Add Weid who has had a few yips. At least Fritsch marks the ball to give himself a chance. Would love him to be straighter and put more pressure on but what are the others doing? Very surprised Spargo and/or Hannan both kept a place. And Lockhart, what is that about? I thought Lockhart could be swung forward to put some pressure on as we were smashed there last week but no he is out omitted! Usually if he is being rested they say managed don’t they?

I was at Metricon on Saturday and i watched Harmes all day off half back and he's a fish out of water back there, gotta get Rivers back there,he's a much better kick,Harmes is an awful set shot for goal so the only role he can play is a tagger, which i don't mind because he oftens gets 25+ himself.Harmes should've tagged the Bont or Macrae.I have no idea what Wagner will bring,he turns it over so much.

The Bulldogs kicked 6 unanswered in the third,2 of those goals were coast to coast, watch tonight how the Cats play when the Bulldogs are coming out of D50,Cats will be shoulder to shoulder all over the ground,we were playing 5 metres off our man as usual and Caleb Daniel,JJ etc. were kicking at 90+ % efficiency and carved us up.

Sadly Saints will do the same.

Dogs have kicked 6 straight against Geelong

Having just watched the Dogs make the Cats look third rate in the first quarter of tonight's game, I'm thinking maybe we weren't as bad as everyone thinks last week. Hmmm, might put a few lazy $$ on the canines for the flag, but then again, maybe not. They are certainly playing great footy at the moment.

No changes last week, against 6 this week.

So much for stability going into the back end of the season. Hoping our structures don't suffer as we have been setting up well behind the ball.

Last week was more about the 3rd quarter drop off and our lack of foward line pressure to stop the ball leaving easily.

Tmac and Fritta both don't apply enough pressure.

Hoping Spargo and Pickett can pick up some crumbs and a handful of goals.

Melksham is in need of improvement and consistency.

We still don't know our best 22.

Harmes may be missing the support of Macca.

Good for Josh to get a chance and the same for Brown.

Max and his connection with our mids will make a difference.

I think Omac usually beats his direct opponent. Could be his last chance to cement a spot for the year.

Goodwin is playing his Psychology card, get desperate.

They have to stay in the game for the 4 quarters and reply to every goal the saints get or at least, tie the game down.

C'mon Dees, convert the inside 50's to goals and kick straight.

Hoping they play with flair, creativity and skill.

I think this will be our first game in a while with a packed crowd (if it is packed).

The noise levels will get them going.

I dont mind gawn, Rivers  Brown and Jones, but omac, Wagner, we know what they offer, we need speed and forward pressure.  No idea what Bedford has done, 1 half decent game and not sited since.

I suppose we are within one more loss of experimenting with the likes of Bedford, Baker, Smith I suppose.

I strongly applaud the decision to drop Fritsch.  Without decent culture, we will never have a decent team.  On this score, it seems that Bayley left the Match C'tee with no option.

I was very, very close to heading to the Alice in the morning.  I'd selected my flights and accommodation for tomorrow night and just as I went to push the "Confirm" button, something told me that this was a terrible idea and I closed the screen.

Having seen the side, I now realise I have made one of the most cost effective and face-saving decisions of my life.  I would have been slinking off to the gents at 3/4 time, removing my Melbourne polo shirt, rolling it up under my arm and surreptitiously walking back to my hotel and drinking alcohol until I blacked out.  Instead, I can stay at home, turn the TV off at 3/4 time and go to bed without publicly embarassing myself AND save about $1200!  I call that a win.

Polo shirt... Yeap that sounds pretty average attire.

Vanders was backing josh Wagner for a callup so no major surprises there. Brown showed his value in the preseason so not sure why so many complaints there either. Gonna back the ins this week given that we must have some useful intel from their former head coach.

Less convinced we need fast players to contain Saints. Their ball movement has been exceptional, not their leg speed. Good structure can contain that.

Exactamundo.

Speed is over rated.

What did Lockhart do to earn the drop? He's been pretty alright to me!

And WAGNER? He's back!? I thought we'd seen the end of the Wagners!

...At least that's what I had hoped!

Harmes hasn't been great. But he also hasn't been played in the right position either. Still, probably the kick up the pants he needs to fire up.

Happy with Rivers inclusion, though.

I'm also worried because ANB is technically up for selection next week... all it takes is for one or two dud performances this week, and he'll naturally float into the 'let's try this again' space.

I initially scratched my head at this a bit from both a team selection POV and a balance/cohesion POV, given there are so many new names in this week.

Now that I've had a little bit of a chance to think on it, I don't mind them, as long as the team balance and cohesion isn't thrown out too much. I don't think it will be.

* Clearly Max replaces Preuss.

* Jones will likely play some midfield minutes this week in place of Sparrow, but I'd prefer Jones just stay forward as a pressure forward. Maybe the Sparrow role is for Vandenberg?

* It seems like Wagner for Harmes. I've been pretty vocal on Harmes playing forward, so this is the one that pisses me off a bit, but we'll likely play Jones, Vandenberg and Viney or Petracca forward, so it might work.

* It looks like Rivers for Lockhart and I reckon listening to Richo on The Talking Points, we want more run off our half back line. Rivers provides this. I'd have Lockhart in the team, but let's see how we go there. Lockhart certainly is a Nev clone in that he doesn't attack enough IMO, but I think that will come in time.

* Continuing the theme of run, we want to play Tomlinson on the wing and stretch their two way running here, so Oscar comes in and Tomlinson moves to the wing. This will probably push Vandenberg forward to play Jones' role, while Jones takes Sparrow's, or Vandenberg will take Sparrow's. Either way, you'll see Tomlinson and Langdon on the wings. We need to turn St Kilda slingshot weapon into a vulnerability and if our defensive mechanism is on, we'll be able to do that and ping back the other way. Tomlinson and Langdon will be needed for this. In effect, it becomes Oscar for Fritsch. I wonder if Tomlinson will play a defensive role on a Brad Hill, to free up Langdon to sweep and attack?

* Brown clearly comes in for Tom. Tom's hampered by his foot and can barely move. He'd be a liability on the counter, so playing Brown and keeping the two talls is probably a good move. Let's see if Brown can bring the pressure acts and get involved in scoring chains. I do have questions over the pressure side of his game and ideally we'd be playing Jackson in this role, but let's see.

Overall, lots of moves, and I think their success will depend on whether we can get strong rebound off half back from the likes of Wagner, Rivers, Langdon, Tomlinson, Salem and Hibberd, and add more offence to our game, which we severely lacked last week IMV.

I like the idea that Vandenberg and Jones will play forward. I hope Viney does too, but I fear he won't.

A forwardline of Weideman, Brown, Melksham, Kozzie, Jones, Vandenberg, Viney and a resting Petracca is potent enough and defensively (with the exception of the two talls and Melksham) far more defensive, which I think we need with St Kilda's sling shot game.

Let's see how we go!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to
