As soon as Covid starting affecting the season, my hopes for this season greatly decreased. We are not a resilient club. There is something wrong with the culture in there somewhere and it’s been that way for a long time. An abnormal season like this was never going to suit us.

Rules of a duel

Highlights of the rules include the steps of an apology, might call off the duel; proper dueling etiquette in terms of dignified behavior; the role of seconds; and what constitutes the end of a duel. Apologies. An apology on the part of the challenged could avert a bloody duel if delivered properly.

Appreciate your comments Fork.

A professional interview process would have concluded, yes, seems like a nice bloke,  made a few mistakes like all of us, yes, we understand that, however those errors rule him out fom coaches our Football Club.

Guys, come on.

This season is bad enough already without posters pretending to want to fight each other over a difference of opinion.

Just put each other on ignore.

Ding i've seen more fight shown between HFF & Dazzle than i've seen on or off the park for most of the year.

Could you at least give them a little more time so i can enjoy this stoush before killing it off so early!?... talk about a party pooper.

In the meantime I watched a friggin absolute cracker of a game last night.( WC & Geelong)

I will bet ALL our Players and COaching staff would have seen it, just see how much G,D and capacity to execute under pressure, was on display last night.

Ah, the game is is thriving !!!!

PS : Plus we did not have any tanties and push & Shove like Frawley & Papley last week . The players were too disciplined.

The personal snipes at Goodwin I feel very unwarranted, look at how he has managed to motivate/manage Bennell. You can have the best fitness staff in the world but if the senior coach is a pr!ck then the player isn’t going to want to get up for him.

Goodwin and the selection committee have had some grave errors in the past, Thursday they made selection mistakes but he could’ve nailed every one of them and we’d still have lost by a fair margin. You can have a world beating game plan but if players are missing 15m kicks and 1m handballs nothing is going to work.

Like many of the players at the club, he needs to lift his game.

Bennell motivated himself. Goodwin and others around him have done their best to facilitate his comeback, and they’ve done a great job of that, but I don’t attribute one shred of Bennell’s actual motivation to succeed to Goodwin, rather than his deeply personal ones. And sure, a pryck of a coach would have made the task a very difficult one, but I don’t think not being a pryck is something a coach needs praise for.

Then have a listen to what Bennell said needed up to his debut against at Carlton, he spoken about Goody being almost a father figure and being very important to his return to AFL footy. You’re completely dismissive of the connection that he has with the players, I provided you with an example where the player himself has heaped praise on Simon for having that connection.

Would Bennell have got back without Goodwin? Maybe. But Goody definitely played a key part once he was at the club.

Goodwin must simply win the next 2 games. Losses to Crows and Kangas could mean he’s gone by years end.

Goodwin certainly needs to win the next 2 game and keep the peace within the media and the supporters and calm should  come ?

How long that lasts for is the Million dollar question.

Lets do something of an exercise, lets look at the season so far. No media person seems to be.

This is the most pure draw we have seen, play each team once.

We started out playing WC in Perth after being told that the season could be over, a hard way to start. The eagles in Perth.

As of now we have played one game less than everybody except  druggies.

We have only played in our HOME STATE twice, which is also less than everybody else

We have played 5 of the top 6 teams.

We have only played 2 of the bottom 7 teams, Haw and Carl and we beat them both.

We have just played the top 2 teams in 4 days, nobody else has.

We got pansed by the ladder leader after a 4 day break. The effort was horrible, the skills nonexistant.

The next 2 games not weeks anymore will tell us where we stand.

Your missing the point 52

Last Thursday our team didn’t want to be there. Game was over 5 minutes into the 1st Quarter

Beating up 2 Bottom Sides won’t tell us a lot at all

That’s right - unfortunately, nothing of this will be resolved until the game after N Melb. We will have needed to beat both comfortably, for the FD (and players) to be back on a level playing field. It will be how the form continues after that, which everyone will be looking at.

On the flip side - lose one or both of those games and the writing will be on the wall.

Good post.

As a supporter, for what that's worth (very little), I'm prepared to give Goodwin at least the next month. But if within the next month there is another display like the Port game, it will be very hard to give him much longer.

Many said last year that by the middle of the 2020 campaign we'd know whether Goodwin had turned the ship. As you point out here, we've had one of the stranger and tougher hands dealt us (draw and circumstances), so maybe a little bit of patience is required, however I don't hold much hope.

reasonable variables but they also haven't impacted most other teams that were expected to play finals and contend. we have looked very average in 5 of our 8 games with the Carlton game being poor after quarter time. it's been a tough season no doubt but last week they gave up and seemed to lack any real drive to want to compete with the genuine best. it's been a common theme for 50 years. at our worst we've looked bottom 4 and at our best for maybe 3 quarters total this year we've looked good. but the padding around it all points to a team that's improved on a 5-win season and not much else. but it's easy to improve when your starting point is trash.

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
