Remember that game. It was almost laughable. Even the Fitzroy supporters were [censored].

And yet the boys banged home 21 goals the following week to beat Essendon who were good that year.

Was this a '186' style protest? Did another Brent Moloney play ill and get subbed out at half time with 0 possessions?

Did the coach get sacked?

Did Demonland go into meltdown that night?

Feel sorry for those that made the trek down to Waverley that afternoon.

I was there.  We sat through it and were stunned in silence at the end. The white flag had gone up.

The next week we came out and beat the Bombers in a huge upset.

The Melbourne score that day is similar to scores this year. I assume that means we were playing 16 minute quarters while Fitzroy played the full 31 minutes and 10 seconds of Q4 and the equivalent in the other three quarters.

Thanks for the reminder Demon Head. Great positive way to start the day!

I was actually at this game, and 186 lost at Geelong.  After this game a number of Essendon supporters gave me a hard time. I gave them a hard time the following week.

We didnt see it coming.

Plenty of learnings from it though.

We had a chance to bounce back the following week and took it.

Nope. Don't recall that happening......?

The umpires didn't give us a thing all day

This one would be burned on your brain @Redleg?

Still gives me nightmares.

It actually nearly doubled when you looked at the Casey game, played as a curtain raiser, where we lost by 20 goals.

From memory it was something like a 50 goal loss over the day.

Didn’t do them any good in the long run considering they no longer exist. They were a club that operated on a shoestring but consistently punched above their weight.

Where's Fitzroy now?!

They won the battle, we won the war..?

You poor bastards that lived through that, must have been torture.

I admire the old Demon guard, have been through alot of pain.

And the bombers paid for their footy trips for the next 3 years.

But to be fair, we didn't play Waverley that we'll. ?

Agreed.

It the game was at the MCG or Junction Oval we may have shaved 30 goals off the margin.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.
