Mids need to lift intensity a bit, still in this.
Brisbane are a slick outfit, Neale is a jet.

We're lucky to still be in this, I hope we make the most of that good luck in the second half!

Our backline has been pretty great. But were smashed everywhere else, and the few times we got the ball, our i50 delivery not good, esp in that second quarter.

Umpiring some of the worst I've seen.

You're allowed to bend over to pick up the ball

Yeah but he move deliberately with his head into the player, it was planned.  That is not good for him.

That was a valid marking attempt. Rayner clearly got hands to the ball.

Apparently not valid at the other end with Fritsch who also got his hands to the ball

It's weird, I don't feel like we are playing all that badly it's just little errors here and there that cost us.

Couldn't agree more, Clint.  Lions were sensational that term, but that wasn't down to us dropping our intensity or doing anything glaringly wrong.  They're just playing terrific footy at the minute.

The positive is that we're well and truly still in the game.

Amazing how much Max is getting scragged off the ball.  Nothing too dirty, just shepherded off it by annoying little blokes like Charlie Cameron when the ball is a mile away.  So bloody obviously and the umpires have done nothing.  The minute Max were to do anything, you can count on it being a free against us.

How the F is that 15m, and that one, and that one, and that one?

Called it the other week. Has happened since geelong game. The umpires have a vendetta. Wish I had time to take recordings Of dees games and call them out.

Shocking quarter of footy lucky to be as close as we are. I don’t normally get to worked up about umpiring but this game has been atrocious.

If our midfield doesn’t pull the finger out we will get smashed. Lucky they missed so many this quarter or it would be game over.
Langdon has had what, one touch? Jones is giving us nothing sadly. Time to make some changes.

Yep watching Jones his kicks are generally up and under.  He just doesn’t look the same unfortunately.

If one more commentator tells me it’s Jetta’a fault for leading with his head I will scream.
Find me a more courageous player you pack of soft flogs sitting in your warm studio passing judgement.
Jesus I can’t with this.

Brayshaw has the intensity of a defeated passenger who wants to be somewhere else.

Getting very tired of this club carrying him through whatever the [censored] it is that’s wrong with him, by naming him week after week.

Jones is rubbish. Disgrace that he's got a game

I've been listening on 3aw.

I've never heard commentators talk so much about free kicks, both those missed/not paid and those paid wrongly. they are totally perplexed by the umpiring.

We're not playing as badly as this thread suggests.

We can't win when we're beaten this badly in the middle but our backline held up OK despite extreme pressure that quarter and we still look dangerous enough when we go inside 50.

Need our mids to lift at stoppages and if we do that a lot will flow from there.

Negatives:

Destroying us in the middle, our clearance winners are being given a football lesson. They’ve clearly done their homework on Max and his tapping, despite having easily the best ruckman on the ground we’re getting no reward for it.

Ae lost our heads early in the quarter, started doing more hack kicks to nothing and our disposal became atrocious. Pulled it back a little but they were bringing a much higher intensity.

Some good inside 50s ruined with poor kicking and decision making. I really wish Langdon had left his mark to Melksham, much better kick, I had very little confidence in him nailing it.

The umpiring has been abysmal, marks not given, plucked free kicks out of nothing that cost us. And the Lions do 3 short kicks in a row in our forward line that should’ve been play on to put the pressure on them allowed to be called a mark.

Positives:

Not many, but their dominance didn’t cost us as high as it should’ve. They were all over us and had some great chances, I’d put the margin at at least 30+ if they had taken their chances.

Our midfield needs to lift.

By the way, the commentators continue to blame Nev for putting his head over the ball. He was picking the ball up, even if he had done what Dal Santo was saying there wouldn’t have been time to turn the body. For them to keep saying that Jetta basically created the contact is completely ignoring that the Lions player chose to bump.

Their midfield is unreal, we've got a shot but Trac, Oliver and Viney need to be so sharp from here on.

Our backline was massive to hold up under that. Getting nothing clean in that quarter from our mids or much pressure from our half forwards. Their mids are very good at negating first possession when we get it. Just need to get better value from the stoppages and and go back to more lowering our eyes into 50.

Big gap between Hawthorn and the top of the ladder. We are being led to the ball, out pressured and rushing.

Brisbane have a bit too much class across the ground.

The greasy conditions suit Brisbane and they are cranking it up

Well down on some of the things which are supposed to be our strengths, some ridonkulus umpiring, some annoying missed shots, but only two goals in it at half time against the best first-half team this season.

I wont say I'm satisfied but I will say I'm full of hope.

Besides the HTB decisions/non decisions, The umps judgement of 15m leaves a hell of a lot to desired.

Lions looking good, very balanced all over the ground. Will have to be at the top of our game to stay with them.

Disposal still an issue, and not helping.

I thought that was the wrong call (rather than the non call with Max)

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
