The Weid has sprouted.

Another 4 qtr game!? What's happened? It's almost like we've worked out that it's easier to play for the whole game! You almost don't need a gameplan haha (almost).

Trac and Maxxy were magnificent. A+++

Jackson, awesome stuff - so much potential. The extra height around the ground is precious.

Weid did exactly what we want from him. More, please!

It's crazy how our forwards can kick goals when the ball is actually delivered to them!?

Better, so much better. Always a heartwarming feeling to pump the Hawks. The lions will be a real test of where we're at. Would be great to continue this upward trend.

Go Dees, finally something to be pleased with amidst all the other mess.

PE -TRACTOR    THE BULLDOZER !!!!!!!   AWESOME  BREAKOUT GAME     .....   AA YEAR.

OLIVER  PETRACCA,  VINEY   they are piping hot.   Gawn is on another level     Maybe another Planet!

LOVE YOU DEES.

So good to see the team put in a performance that we can’t really complain about. Sure, there was some poor play, but it didn’t define the game. Keep up this kind of footy and the future looks bright.

Petracca has developed TIME, he has soo much time

In the last quarter I saw three Hawthorn players too scared to go near him when he kicked that ball.

We're back baby.

Don't know if we beat much today but a 7 goal win is a 7 goal win. Midfield group was huge. Pressure - especially forward 50 was huge. Only negatives - Brayshaw and VandenBerg should be designated non-kickers

A Dees win and a Carlton loss after the siren - couldn't be happier!

Blues losing was actually really good for us. Port are a lock for finals. Blues competing with us for a spot.

Can someone shut down that weightman is better than kozzy thread ASAP.

Everytime kossy gets his hands on the ball i wet myself. He offers so much more than weightman, i'm really glad we picked him up.

The great legacy of the 36 lives on!!!

Positives everywhere, especially in the middle of the ground where we were dominant.

But for the first time in a long time, we look dangerous in the forward 50. Owed in no small part to Weideman flying at everything and bringing the ball to ground with Pickett looking dangerous whenever he gets within 10 metres of the drop of the ball. Jackson is going to be a ten year plus player. And a bloke called Harley Bennell is looking like a god send.

Many on here have been calling out forever to fix up the forwardline. On today’s evidence we have taken big strides towards doing just that.

Reward for effort. Of which there was bucketloads.

We’re back baby.

Its honestly mystifying that it took until last week for the coaches to play Weideman. Our structure looks so much better with him crashing packs and clunking marks. Great to see him get on the end of a few goals. Probably should've finished with five.

Also....Luke Jackson: 14 touches, three marks (two contested), three tackles and a goal in just his second game. Early days, but Action Jackson looks super impressive.

Weid has captured some 2018 year form.   Jackson has the goods and is going to be a fine player for us.

Just wanted to highlight this - while he will have some quiet games over the coming weeks, I think we got a real glimpse today of why we drafted Jackson at three.  He did it all - good skills, took some key marks, and even laid some really important tackles.  He has got plenty of strings in his bow and I'm excited to see him develop.

Brilliant team effort. The pressure in the first half was off the chart i thought. A quarter of our total tackle count came inside our forward 50.

We head to the sunshine state with some confidence now. Can’t wait for next week, Weid building nicely and a date with Andrews ( best full back imo) awaits.

Really pleased with OMac and Weed - both had question marks against them but have been great.

Omac is actually a really dependable kick. He’s starting to grow on me.

Great win, so many good signs.

Hope those of you still in Vic (assuming most) enjoyed it.

Cant wait to get to the game at Metricon next week.

There was a time during the current Melbourne cycle that goes back to before the premiership when the club was the toughest to beat in the fourth quarter. The Demons were not only hard to beat at any time but it was virtually impossible to get the better them when scores were close at three quarter time. It was only three or four years ago but they were fit, strong and resilient in body and mind. Sadly, those days are over. This has been the case since the club fell off its pedestal about 12 months ago after it beat Geelong and then lost to Carlton. In both instances, Melbourne put together strong, stirring final quarters, one that resulted in victory, the other, in defeat. Since then, the drop off has been dramatic to the point where it can neither pull off victory in close matches, nor can it even go down in defeat  gallantly.

  • CASEY: Footscray

At twenty-four minutes into the third term of the game between the Casey Demons and Footscray VFL at Whitten Oval, the visitors were coasting. They were winning all over the ground, had the ascendancy in the ruck battles and held a 26 point lead on a day perfect for football. What could go wrong? Everything. The Bulldogs moved into overdrive in the last five minutes of the term and booted three straight goals to reduce the margin to a highly retrievable eight points at the last break. Bouyed by that effort, their confidence was on a high level during the interval and they ran all over the despondent Demons and kicked another five goals to lead by a comfortable margin of four goals deep into the final term before Paddy Cross kicked a couple of too late goals for a despondent Casey. A testament to their lack of pressure in the latter stages of the game was the fact that Footscray’s last ten scoring shots were nine goals and one rushed behind. Things might have been different for the Demons who went into the game after last week’s bye with 12 AFL listed players. Blake Howes was held over for the AFL game but two others, Jack Billings and Taj Woewodin (not officially listed as injured) were also missing and they could have been handy at the end. Another mystery of the current VFL system.

The Demons head back out on the road in Round 10 when they travel to Queensland to take on the reigning Premiers and the top of the table Lions who look very formidable. Can the Dees cause a massive upset? Who comes in and who goes out?

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.
