Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

James Harmes is being wasted

For those who want Harmes as a tagger, which of Oliver, Petracca, Brayshaw (and then Viney) are you moving out to accomodate this?

He’s too far down the pecking order to spend much time in the guts now. That’s why Goodwin is exploring alternative roles. I don’t mind the wing suggestion. But irrespective of position, he looks horribly out of form at present.

Harmes follows Sidebottom. When Sidebottom goes into the starting 4 in the square, then one of our other mids moves forward or to the bench.

Yes needs a big boost. Form has desserted him. I’d give him a Pendlebury or Sidebottom assignment this week. Maybe play on Sidebottom on the wing opposite to Langdon.

That makes sense to me - one of their best creators shutting him down very important

Horribly out of form playing in role he hasn't played much of prior.  He'll be fine in the middle in a pure tagging role /pushing forward on occasions and can easily share a pressure forward role with Jack on the odd occasions he is required to tagg.

It's not a permanent role.  The team needs to be capable of flexing when required to do what's best for the team on any particular day.  That day is coming with a tag a must on sidey this week.

You are giving the Pies a free hit by not doing so and Viney will blossom in a pressure forward role (part time).  It's not an issue and not sure why some have trouble seeing this option.  It's not like we haven't witnessed Harmes play this role, and play it very well mind you, on prior occasions

Harmes isn't really suited to half back IMO because he is not super quick, long limbed, skilled or that good a decision maker.

I cannot see him getting back into the midfield given Petracca's improvement, but wing or forward would make more sense to me.

I've said he should play three roles. Tagger/most defensive mid, pressure marking forward and winger. That's plenty of options, but as to whether we have enough midfield minutes to give, there's a player you haven't mentioned above and that's Sparrow who is getting midfield minutes and to me looks quite lost in transition. And I'd play Viney as pressure forward too.

Think he should tag the most dangerous Wing on the opposition team so he's involved in the midfield without removing anyone from centre bounces, and/or play whatever role Jones is currently attempting up forward when not on wing

Not everyone can average 20+ touches.

The fact that we have players who don't, but have the potential to do so, means we're heading in the right direction.

If you're going to advocate for more midfield time for Gus or forward time for Harmesy, you've got to explain how you want that to happen - who are they replacing in those roles?

Thought he mopped up the ball really nicely a couple of times repeatedly at the end of the third, otherwise his disposal was very ordinary again.

I like that the coaches have finally looked at fixing the Brayshaw wing versus central square problem. They definitely need to look at the Harmes is struggling problem too.

I think Harmes has the attributes to be a damaging half back flanker, using his marking and power to slingshot attacks, but I just don't think it's working at the moment.

Despite his disposal being ordinary against Collingwood, his positioning within the zone and his work rate could not be questioned and I wonder if it's just a case of him growing into his new role?

Sparrow's injury opens the door for the return of Harmes to at least a wing/tag/half forward rotation. Rivers in at half back.

But the question is does it really help him or us if he's not settled long term in a position?

Just quietly, Harmes is way out of form and has been all year.....

yep, and Goodwin has never played Harmes in another position this year; an indictment on his inability to coach. Would've been an ideal candidate to tag bontempelli today

With Sparrow out, why not move Harmes into that midfield rotation spot now?

The better question might be - why was Sparrow in the rotation in the first place, taking CBA's off of both Brayshaw & Petracca

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
