Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

No leadership group means plenty of responsibility.

How a ‘disappointed’ Jack Viney responded to losing Melbourne captaincy role

Melbourne coach Goodwin said Viney had responded positively to his new role.

“My conversations with him have been really simple; he is all in,” Goodwin said.

“He wants this club to be the best club it can be, he wants to support Max in the best way that he can.

“There will be people out there that will say, ‘Is he all in?’ Well, if you ask that question you don’t know Jack Viney. He’s never been more passionate about this footy club.”

Takes a bit of pressure of the young fella imv and, barring injury, should see him return to (or very near) his best.

If it was me i would be very flattered and honored to know my team mates and coaches voted me into this important role.

Good to hear.

It's not as though he's been dumped by the club though - he remains one of only 2 official leaders, and is the club's Vice Captain.

It feels that the club is getting things right at the moment i.e. it seems to be actively addressing all of the issues which arose last season.

I suspect Viney may very well be a better Vice Captain than a Captain - it just seems to be more his role.

Maybe it's just me, but I would have preferred to have heard this directly from Jack. I get that he probably wouldn't want to get the 3rd degree at that presser, but him not even turning up doesn't seem overly congruent with him being 'all in'.

As long as he gets “all in” and turns up when it counts.

Listening to the interview, I can see why Goodwin would have such a good relationship with his players.  He speaks with real simplicity and straight down the line, but also in a very supportive and respectful manner about his players that they would feel like he has their backs.  Would have been a great captain to play under himself I recon.

The whole two man, captain/vice captain leadership group his Goodwins personality stamped all over it I feel too.

Couldn't have Viney at the presser as it would have taken the focus off Maxy and offered an opportunity for the gutter dwelling journos to question Viney about how disappointed he might be etc

I have no doubt Viney would be hurting about the decision but I also have no doubt his number one priority is the success of the MFC

Absolutely DG. The story is Max and the non-leadership group thing as explained by Goodwin. Anything else would have been a distraction for the lazy journos in the room.

I also felt the interviews showed out a solid relationship between Goodwin and Gawn which is important.

Albeit on a number of occasions whist Max was speaking it was all Goodwin could do to hide a smile and not look too amused by Max's utterings.

Lots of air time coming up this season which the club and the AFL will love.

I also suspect most journos will take a press opportunity with Max than most or any other skippers around.

I see your point and I won't stick at this like a dog at a bone.
Perhaps now is not the time for Jack to do this. Nonetheless, I would like to hear something from Jack a bit further down the line. It doesn't have to be at a full blown presser. Just a doorstop interview where he confidently and assertively commits to the cause.
Unfortunately, nature abhors a vaccuum, and it will be filled by those with an agenda if not filled by us. At some point, it needs to be addressed.

I think Jack will show what he thinks when he crunches his first tackle in the first minute of the first game this season.

He knows no other way and this minor setback  - if he sees it as such - will be the making of him.

As vice captain , it would be nice to hear something from him.

I disagree, would prefer Jack and the rest of our list, coaches and back-office personnel to take a vow of silence to atone for last year, until such time that we hold premiership cup in the air.

I'm sure we will... when the time is right.

As Doc mentions above, the focus at the moment needs to be on Maxy, and down the line Jack can talk about it when the focus isn't on the decision anymore.  And even if we do hear from him, what's he going to say other than something like 'I'm disappointed but 100% behind Max and I can't wait to bring success to the club?'  Even if he is fuming, he isn't going to say that to the media.

Yes and you did, so how did you not see Viney starting to smile as they cut away?

That smile at the end was the most unsettling part of all.
He seemed relieved enough that he had remembered the answer he had been practicing but the it was the look of a man who had just eaten half a [censored] sandwich and then handed the rest on to his successor.

Wasn't there a report also that May and Lever also polled higher votes then higher?

Interesting a few boys have put something up on social media (mostly insta stories) congratulating Gawn as captain, but nothing from Jack yet.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
