Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I need to eat my own dog food, I reckoned we could win the flag this year if everything went right but while we've had a good pre-season enough things have gone awry to cast serious doubt.

Gawn injured and then Preuss injured hinders our ability to practice midfield cohesion at this crucial time.

Similarly May injured hinders our ability to practice backline cohesion which is absolutely vital.

I think we can have a very good year but flag is a bridge too far now.

I may be way off the mark, but I think Burgess and his team are managing loads cautiously.  As a result, while Preuss may be longer term, I think May and Gawn will be back sooner rather than later.  Given the number of senior list players that have had a relatively full pre-season training load, I think we are better placed than we have been for a considerable period.

Again, I cannot know for sure, but as a playing group, I think the guys have a new and steely resolve.  That gives me cause for realistic optimism.

A lot of people liken Melbourne's 2019 to Richmond of 2016 and Geelong of 2006.

I reckon we were nothing like either of those sides.

Richmond won 8 games and beat the sides they were supposed to beat below them, and had a win over a grand finalist in Sydney. They disgraced themselves in the final round, but 8 wins is a ton better than 5.

Geelong won 10.5 games had a percentage of 100, thrashed bottom teams, and beat 4 top eight sides that year.

We on the other hand won a lousy 5 games, and none of those wins we were convincing aside from perhaps the Sydney win.

On a side note, we haven't played finals in an odd year since 1991.

I clearly have my blinkers on re: Goodwin, I rate him.

For those that don't - help me understand what doesn't float your boat about him?

Is it no plan b?

Is it he gives nothing at press conferences, therefore must act like that day to day?

Similar blinkers on. Happy to support the coach who was selected after (I hope) a rigorous recruitment process.

However I am a bit ambivalent based on performance, and yes it's no apparent plan B.

i appreciate that last years injury pattern was not helpful but I maintain that using the whole squad in Plans B,C,D,,Etcwe could have had improved results. That's a significant part of the coaches job.

i know the squad is now a better mix of players and the coach hopefully is responsible for that, training seems to have improved, the coach is responsible for that. Goodie now has to get the selections right and motivate the team to the start of our success.

i expect a premiership or so damn close for him to continue. If we have not won a flag before his contradt ends I expect a new coach.

I'm with you dpositive......No plan B & really after Roos handed him a finals side, the pathway to the finals was  just a formality.

The true test of a good coach, IMO, is when the chips are down & he is up against it!! He didn't cope last year, on & off the field, so his reaction this season will be interesting & monitored closely.

Good mix of players? Good selections? Good form?  I question some of the mature recruits, however, time will tell......

Yes 2006 we finished above Geelong.

Since that time we have gone consistently in the opposite direction

Go figure!

They were building a great list, and we were just being old Melbourne as per usual.

Time for a change, and time to get our HQ training facility off the ground.   And I reckon that will change our old thinking, and change our old spots.  Lose the 'Faux Nice',  and get an aggressive team back with Demon Spirit.

I wouldn't necessarily mind him sticking around if we just missed finals, as we would have shown improvement from 2019, but I could understand why others would want him gone.  Finals should be the minimum for us.  There always other circumstances which contribute to a club missing finals, so we'll have to wait and see.  But I do rate Goodwin and hope he is the man who can lead us to the ultimate glory.

Yep, it takes a while to learn into the job, to see what works, and form an understanding of what we have and how to get it to click together.

And then to start to recruit to that understanding,  adding to what is working already.

Like so many other coaches who seem on the periphery back in the day.   It takes time to build the winning formulae, of assistants and game-style to suit the list, and club culture, etc.

In the old days the Tiges were sacking coaches every year, and eating their own.  It did them no good and hurt the club deeply.

Everytime you throw out the plan and start over,  you go way back to the very beginning. right to the bottom.  And another 10 or so years.

Agreed we are nothing like those sides. They strayed off course slightly as a one off before returning to finals and becoming powerhouses. We have been off course for the better part of decades and haven’t shown consistent form like those sides did.

BTW we have played finals in an odd year since 91 - we played finals in 2005 and got smashed by Geelong in elimination final at the G.

Yes Richmond lost by 113 in R23, can we just ignore their other losses by 88, 70, 70, 68 and 46?

By contrast last year our biggest losses in this range were by 80, 53, 43, 41 and 40.

At 3 quarter time we were in front or within a goal of our opposition in 12 matches for only 5 wins.  It's well documented that our poor pre-season and injuries meant we weren't able t weo run out games.

Thats the way opposite to the MF CSS, with a better fitness we should trun those leads into wins, our average losing margin was less then 25 points, if we kicked straight we should have beaten West coast twice and Adelaide, and even the last round we kicked one goal 8 in the last quarter against North Melbourne.

Hmm. If you have a mostly mortgaged house and two kids you end up with peraphs $10m debt and 52 kids.

So, win the bet and your prize is basically "Melbourne football club 2009".

My annual pineapple donation is coming up. If we win the flag at $26 I will almost be even. What's that you say, make it $200! No I did that last year.

Roll it into Petracca for the Brownlow and you get the juicy odds of 11,523/1.  Free money ?

I did look at that on Sportsbet but they won't allow the multi because they are not independent events.

I do think Petracca at $501 is good value though.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
