I think Weideman to start with. Doesn't mean he'll keep it though.

What about Tommmy Mac?

Took me way too long to rack my brain and realize who Brown is. I think we're not ready to forego the M. just yet. Give it a few rounds!

I’d play Fritsch there and try and isolate him as much as possible. He would be a tough match up with his one on one footy iq. Only works though if we are not bombing to the top of the square.

I don't think Fritsch is strong enough to play one out.

He needs clear space around him to run and jump at the ball.

Weid will be first picked i'd say, but fear he doesn't have the mongrel in him to be a commanding presence.

Work ethic will have Brown will come in after 3-4 rounds is my guess

I'd like to see Weid earn the spot through his pre season efforts …. and then keep it through his good form.

It is time for him to deliver the goods - he can't survive on "potential" much longer.

I think we’ll see Fritsch, Melksham and Tommy Mc get the most time isolated as the deep target.

Whether we play 1 or 2 talls alongside that group is up for debate. At this stage I’d suggest Jackson will be hard to leave out, but until we get some games it’s just a projection based on traits. Although I’d consider him a mix of ruck and forward flanker.

Weid v Petty v Brown? Tough to choose. And a heck of a job first up trying to compete with or space away from McGovern. Very early but I’d lean towards Petty.

First choice would be T Mac and then Fritch. Of these 4 in order subject to injuries. Brown is the most ready to go. Then Weid but he is really a third tall and would be playing out of position. Petty has not proved he is a forward and is definitely not a natural forward. Jackson has not proved he can play any position let alone that of a full forward.

We need mobility up forward, whatever form that takes. My guess, we will see players rotating at FF.  Whether they be tall or short, every team needs players with speed of movement,  We need some marking power but we need players at ground level with dexterity who can get the ball and retain it. For me, players like Weed, Petty and at times Tmac are clunky players that too often can lose the ball. .

Fritsch would be my pick at FF. Fast lead, clever, can move sideways and has a strong overhead mark and beautiful straight kick.  Can receive well but also can chase his own ball.  Brown might be an option but I will go with what I know.

Amen to that Bbo

Petracca and get the former MFC player Allen Jackovich to coach him on how to position yourself one-on-one

T Mac given he's the one most likely to kick the most goals.

I voted Mitch Brown out of that group. Kicked his 2 goals a game last year and has more runs on the board then Weideman. I'd have more confidence in Brown contributing towards a round 1 win V' West Coast. However, I hope Weed has a great year and makes Brown purely a back up depth option.

Let's hope we don't have a repeat of Oscar McDonald being our number 2 key forward because we ran out of players.

Brown the most proven so he got my vote. He's proven he’ll give us 20+ goals from that position.
Weid should claim this spot easily, but is yet too do so. He’s the logical choice longer term assuming TMac and others are playing CHF in tandom.
Petty showed promise and could claim it. Jackson is a fair way off it but is a big talent so could come on quickly and lay claim.

They’ll use Brown or Weid depending who is fittest and had most time in training come end of preseason.

Joel Smith ???

Constant Coordinated Rotation has to be the option. Churn.

This rotation where selected ff leads out and selectedflanker runs in to that spot, all forwards consequently churn around to a structured position.. This not only means there is separation and forwards do not impede each other but also creates match up issues that can be exploited. It also creates space due to movement and provides anticipatory reaction as forwards know where their teammates will be.

Requires discipline in knowing where teamates are and where opposition are. If opposition does not pursue opponent then a clear target is provided.

I’d give Weideman first crack and make him play the 2nd ruck role also.

Tmac and Weideman as the talls, Pickett and ANB as the smalls and Petracca, Melksham and Fritsch as the mid range types who all go well in the air.

I do like Hannan as a player but not sure the mix would be right with him in there also.

The traditional FF role has changed, you look at our bigger Fwds:

Tmac, Weid, Brown, Petty, Jackson, Fritta, Melk, Trac, Hannan, AVB, Joel Smith, Pruess at any given time, any of those guys could play out of the Square.

I think its Weid and Brown right behind him. Big year for Weid.

Weideman to partner Tom Mac as the key forwards.

Brown the reserve.

Petty and Jackson 3rd tall forward/ruck type options.

Surely it’s got to be Tom McDonald.

If not him, then Mitch Brown. I’m still stunned that Essendon delisted him. He’s a really decent forward - and they need him.

I find it entirely bizarre. Did he take Mrs Worsfold on a dinner date or something? It doesn’t make sense. I reckon he’ll play 25 games for us in 2020.

Totally agree Ron. Pick up of the year and will certainly pressure Weid for the spot. He is ready to go and will play most games .

On the other matter perhaps he didnt!

I think I read when he joined us that he played 12 senior games last year. A friend of mine Yes I have a friend who is an Essendon supporter says he is inconsistant. sounds like Kent to me. But time will tell like always, at the very least he sounds like a good back up.

I don't have a high opinion of him at all. Inconsistant is putting it mildly. He is only good as a leading forward and given our kicking skills that doesn't hold out much hope. Just hope the weid can pull his finger out.

Wayward kicking for goal, dump kicks inside 50 and some baffling umpiring all contributed to the Dees not getting out to an an early lead that may have impacted the result. At the end of the day the Demons were just not good enough and let the Hawks run away with their first win against the Demons in 7 years.

  • NON-MFC: Round 09

Round 9 kicks off out west with the Dockers hosting a Collingwood side resting several stars. Fremantle need to make a statement on their home deck after some disappointing form on the road, while the Magpies will be keen to maintain their Top 2 position. Friday night sees a must-win clash between two sides desperate to stay in touch with the eight. St Kilda have shown glimpses while Carlton are clinging to relevance after a flat start to the season. Saturday’s twilight game at Marvel pits the Bombers against a struggling Sydney outfit. Essendon can’t afford another close match against a lower-ranked side, while the Swans risk sliding down the ladder even further. Up in Darwin, the fourth-placed Suns will look to extend their stay in the top four. The Bulldogs have hit their stride with three big wins on the trot and will be very keen to consolidate on their momentum. The always fiery Showdown looms as pivotal for both clubs. Adelaide are eyeing a spot in the Top 4 with a win, while Port Adelaide’s season could slip away if they drop another game and fall further behind the pack. Sunday begins with a yawn fest between Richmond and West Coast. The Tigers need to bank the points to stay clear of the bottom two, while the Eagles are still chasing their first win of the year. The Giants face one of the league’s toughest road trips as they travel to GMHBA Stadium to face the Cats. With GWS at risk of a third straight loss, Geelong will be eager to consolidate their position inside the eight and start their climb up the ladder. The round wraps up with the top-of-the-table Lions heading to Ninja Stadium to take on the second-last Roos. The Lions should easily take care of the struggling Roos who might be powerless against the best in the comp. Who are you tipping and what are the best results for the Demons?
