Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Does it really matter as long as the whiners get the Darwin game back home, we have to play 11 games 'away', as per mantra, successful teams can win anywhere   or are the whiners hoping we lose so they can whine about the draw

You've answered your own question, chap.

We're not a 'successful team' yet are we?

Wrong, perfectly valid question, always been my opinion that there has been a particularly noisy minority,  based in a certain area of the MCG, that has had far too much influence over decisions made over the last few years

And not a majority of fans, I went up there 3 times and there were a lit of travelling Melbourne supporters

Why hide who the minority is?

or are there too many friends in that section ?

Many Club supporters would be against fixturing any game interstate at the expense of this game which Gary Pert has managed to regain at the MCG (much to the shock of his detractors since Day 1.)

Ironically we should ask for  either Crows or Eagles who have been drawn vs us in Darwin and give us/ a chance of 40 000 if we are travelling well and can make a profit also.

The only whining you’ll get from me is if we don’t get a fixture commensurate with a bottom six finish which is what we’re supposed to get having placed 17th in 2019.

I also would like to see Richmond as the premier getting the toughest draw in 2020 and not a soft one such as they got this year when they finished with a long run of games at the MCG and a seemingly easier fixture than the other sides that were in the top 6.

Likely get away game round 1. When you are 17th you deserve nothing. But here’s my 11 home game requests.

Anzac Day eve game v Tigers (lock!)

Queens Birthday game v Pies (lock!)

of the 9 home games at the MCG, remaining 7 to be against 3 interstate teams (hopefully Crows, Lions and Eagles) and 4 vic based teams (Bombers, Blues, Cats, and either Bulldogs or Kangas).

One at Marvel against interstate team (Suns) and One at Alice Springs (Giants).

Unlikely to get a Friday night game unfortunately this year.

and where is “This Certain Area of The MCG”

If you are Referring to The MCC Reserve (Who pay $800 a year to be a Member) and always have a good turn out to home games, i would refrain from asking, to save  embarrassment to yourself any further by asking such a Foolish Question

ANZAC Eve happens to be a Friday so I expect that to be a home game and our only Friday night game for the year.

I expect to see more Sunday games (we only had 5 in 2019, four of which were in a row. In 2018 we had 11 and most years before 2019 were closer to 11 than 5). We'll also see fewer FTA games.

I wouldn't mind seeing us get a home game at the G against West Coast (we haven't played them at the G since 2014). Assuming we go to Perth I wouldn't mind the game being against Fremantle rather than West Coast (we haven't played Fremantle in Perth since 2015).

I also expect to see 10 MCG home games, given that is what Pert said would be happening.

Hawthorn wants bigger clubs in Tasmania. I wouldn't be surprised if we get sent down there.

If the club is smart they’ll give up the home fixture for either ANZAC Eve or QB for next season, which would mean that from 2021 onwards, we’ll host one of those blockbusters every year, rather than the feast / famine situation we have now.

Agree. I thought I read last year that the AFL/MFC acknowledged that we'd be away in both games in 2019 and from then on we'd alternate. Can't find that now though so I might be wrong.

I'd like to see us stay away on Queen's Birthday and get the ANZAC Eve home game.

We’re well overdue for a round 1 interstate game this year. We haven’t travelled in the season opener since 1998.

I’m tipping GC, WC or Port interstate round 1.

I will laugh and cry at the same time if we’re the away side in Darwin later in the year.

Agree with this too. We've had a charmed run but if I were any of the other Victorian clubs I'd be questioning why we continue to get to play in Melbourne in Round 1.

That's what I said. Imagine the irony if we were the away team for the darwin game. Pretty sure the AFL wouldn't do that. It will be probbaly be either perth team or adelaide teams.

My fixture would want to see no geelong game down there, no r23 interstate game, play essenscum once and not a lot of interstate games. I'd be happy to play nth in tassie though if it's in autumn or spring. Then I'd go.

Yep

The weekend can't be ruined until the last possible moment?

And if we win then the working week starts off in the best possible way.

2-

We won't get home games against Essendon or Carlton because we are hosting Collingwood and Richmond

If we only host 3 interstate teams that means a minimum 5 interstate games next year. More likely we host 5 interstate sides (including one in Alice) and have a double up match against at least one of those, more likely two

Relisten to Gary Perts announcement last week on our website.

Yes, strange.

Also comes with a guarantee of posting a commercial loss.

If we continue the form of 2019 it won't matter where / when we play they will all be commercial losses.

Seriously late Saturday / Sunday afternoon games suit me best. Just my preference as I don't go to night games or away games at the G  against the the big drawing teams like Tigers or Pies. Just too hard. I would rather watch on TV than the top deck of the stands at the G. Am I a fair weather attending supporter? Yep. My perfect time is Saturday afternoon against an interstate team. Plenty of room and I can arrive 15 mins before the game starts. What suits the club commercially is a different matter however based on this year's results don't expect much from the AFL.

Throughout the year I like to fit in a number of Casey games so my attendance at the G is probably 6-7 games, the rest are TV when we are on FTA.

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
