Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Oscar Mac  Out, May in. Absolute no brainer.  Omac needs another ‘block’, first one did nothing.

melksham in, ANB out

Hore in, jwags out

would like to get a look at Jordon.

Preuss?  Undecided.  If we put him in,  he’s gotta mark the thing.  Would be a swap for smith.

About another 6 should be dropped, but no warm bodies to replace them.

Older brigade need some managing and give some who are terribly out of form and getting worse by the week a break to refresh and re-set.

Also an ideal time to give a few of the younger brigade at Casey a brief taste of what is required against the best to be the best.

Out:  Jones Boy (playing super tired ...mentally?  Managed), O-Mac, Baker, ANB, Lewis (managed), Gus (needs a break to refresh / refocus - Managed), Smith (would have gone for J-Wag but sadly no other replacement defenders at VFL level on our list that would improve things at this point.  Freeman if available for a one off look maybe)

In:  Stretch, Hore, Dunkley, Lockhart, Melk, JKH, Pruess (a long way from being a regular at AFL level but his 2nd half ruck performance against Sandy earned him a place and can mark when on.  Something we severely lack at AFL level. 57 Hit outs, 27 disposals, 216 DT points and the highest ranked player against the Zebras.  Can clunk the odd mark inside 50 and kick a goal or two also.  No worse / better than Smith but a better ruck relief option by a country mile)

Footnote:  Freeman looks likely with another pre-season and some more time at Casey.  Munro is a super run with / impact player at VFL level who might make it yet to AFL somewhere.  Tagged Stevens out of the game somewhat and got 30 himself.

Preuss beating up on a barely key position sized opponent has no bearing on AFL footy. Completely irrelevant. We need all the mobility we can get against the Tigers and that means keeping with Smith. Smith needs the game time to see if he stays on the list too.

Freeman's a Casey player so he's not playing AFL for us, he has some nice traits, wouldn't mind having a good look at him over summer. Munro is the dumbest footballer I've ever seen. He has AFL pace/endurance but is pretty much a midfield version of Frost when it comes to using the ball and is probably good for 5 free kicks against a game as well. He makes ANB and Corey Wagner look like smart footballers. No thanks.

Smith is too slow to react to what's happening around him to impact consistently at AFL level IMO DS.  Has had many chances at this level and yet to really stamp himself on the game for more than a quarter or two.  Injury prone also.  Classic coach teaser that never quite stays on the park for more than a quarter/game or two.

Pruess didn't just ruck well he did ok when moved up forward also with a nice mark and goal and brought the ball to ground on a few occasions.  Handy chop out for Big M when resting.  I know you aren't a fan but like all big men and all rookies (12 AFL games...he's a babe in the woods for a big guy) he will take time and be in / out of the seniors to go back and reset / develop (slowly) & learn the nuances of the game before (IF) getting a recall.

Yes I realise Freeman's Casey DS which is why I said IF available meaning IF he was on our list it might be worth a one match entre' upstairs.  Hence the mention of  another pre-season and more time at Casey before considering if he's worth picking up.  Definitely showing some signs though.

Munro ....simply saying he might make it a time AFL level (you might have missed the 'Somewhere' part in my rambling).  Not for us as we have too many similar.  We need outside run, speed, class and finish.  Maybe the suns.  As you say, maybe he won't make it for good reasons.

First - KK has shown he is a great player, not just a good player. Let him recover.

Second - Melksham and Hore to come in after today.

You can’t be serious!  KK a great player?  He’s a nobody.  A player who may have played B grade standard at best.

Kelly: Well Oddball, what do you think?

Oddball: It’s a wasted trip baby. Nobody said nothing about locking horns with no Tigers.

Big Joe: Hey look, you just keep them Tigers busy and we’ll take care of the rest.

Oddball: The only way I got to keep them Tigers busy is to LET THEM SHOOT HOLES IN ME!

Crapgame: Hey, Oddball, this is your hour of glory. And you’re chickening out!

Oddball: To a New Yorker like you, a hero is some type of weird sandwich, not some nut who takes on three Tigers.

Kelly: Nobody’s asking you to be a hero.

Oddball: No? Then YOU sit up in that turret baby.

Kelly: No, because you’re gonna be up there, baby, and I’ll be right outside showing you which way to go.

Oddball: Yeah?

Kelly: Yeah.

Oddball: Crazy… I mean like, so many positive waves… maybe we can’t lose, you’re on!

Preuss is not the ‘magic bullet’.  He is a big lump of a lad, who is learning his craft under the best in the biz (Max).  He can dominate at Casey, but we need him to be elite.  He has shown at AFL level that he can be a tap ruckman, and in the first quarter he can kick a few goals.  His game has to go to a whole new level in terms of his around the ground or forward craft so he his not just a one trick pony.  We are carrying too many ‘passengers’ at the moment.  I think he might be one or two years away from what we want him to be.  I think he will be a bit player at AFL level (and dominate in the VFL against sub-standard opposition) until he really gets to work and steps into his potential.

We are really stretched forward, so he might get a gig.  We will need May and Frost on Lynch and Riewoldt, and their defence is built on intercept markers so we Preuss may offer a point of difference in sheer size alone.  We have limited marking options up forward, so it is either smith or Preuss.  Neither is going to win the game for us, and at best we could hope for a contribution.

I'm thinking we've got to give O-mac at least 15 more pre-seasons to build his body before we can expect an AA defender.

Seriously, some of you just have no patience whatsoever.

Lower your expectations.

If we win 3 games next year you guys should be grateful that we even won three!

Srsly.

You guys.

Preuss' game at VFL level was typical of his VFL performances this year... simply monstered a junior opposing ruck

That being said I agree may as well play him in front of Smith.

If we do play him I would like to see him used predominately as a stay at home forward running to a pre-determined pattern. Richmond will run off him but you never know we may be able to snag a few goals to keep them honest.

Preuss played a great game. The ruck domination was only one aspect. He was mobile, clunking a lot of footy all over the ground and kicking long balls into the forwards.

He responded to goodwins criticism is the best possible fashion and deserves to be recalled. I just hope he can carry the form into the firsts.

Hore is a must after his game at Casey. i rate him above Lever on present form. Lever has been terrible since his return - he looks half asleep and is turning the ball over a lot. He must have caught the OMac disease.

The biggest problem with Lever is that he thinks he is a much better player than he actually is.

It would do his ego some good to spend some time in the VFL learning how to kick and defend his opponent.

Maybe this block will focus on sprinting.

Trac with a sore back might not get a crack at the Tiges. If there's even the slightest sense it could flair up then they should pull him for the season, backs can play up for a long time unless there's absolutely no issue then he should be rested.

I'd love to see Hore and May come in so we get to see how May, Lever, Jetta, Hibberd, Hore and Frost play together. It will release Salem as well, Jones and he can be the 6th/mid option down there. Jetta has been ordinary but I'd keep him purely just to get used to playing with the others. Hibberd might again tag Martin, so can go back when he goes forward.

The wagners both committed horrible turnovers (as a lot did), but they offered nothing else, sand we know enough about them now. Baker was also poor but should be given more time to find his feet at the top level.

My in: May, Hore, Melksham and Lockhart

Outs: Wagners x2; Trac and OMac.

Not convinced with Preuss coming in for TSmith (even though smith was ordinary), I'd love to see Preuss play at least 50% at Casey forward to work on what he needs to do there, just a pity Weid got concussed because he should have come back in.

Been out for a good chunk Chook.  We aren't exactly overflowing with alternatives!  It's all about 2020 now anyways (hopefully i'm not repeating myself at this stage or earlier next year)

I'm not implying he needs to be dropped - i think Hore should come in for Wagner but some of his efforts looked half hearted and there some just plain lazy kicks. But i agree he needs time.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
