Do you remember when a young first or second yearJesse Hogan had that photo of himself in a Freo scarfe when Freo were in the finals and we were out? I said then that “word in the ear” would be an appropriate response. My view has been consistent.

You and L_36 think he should have been sacked on the spot, I suppose.

Yes I remember the Hogan photo well. Did wonders for the sense that he really bought in to being a Demon.

Sacking offence, no. But I certainly wouldn’t be putting her in any leadership group.

Didn’t have a problem with the Chaplin one as it was, if memory serves correctly, just on Grand Final day and Melbourne had obviously been out of contention for weeks.

As this one is a current player during he (men’s) season, it’s not a great look.  Worth a word in her ear- certainly nothing more than that.

Who cares.. all I know is she is as hard as a cats head.. is that where the link is?? ?

Some no name aflw player follows another mens team?  geez

Well said it’s an AFLW player!

Who cares, it’s a Mickey Mouse competition, she’s not getting a game for the men’s team any time soon is she?

I thought this was a gag at first but apparently not. So a 19yo plays AFLW for MFC 8 weeks out of 52 for little money and she support Geelong in AFL - a different comp.

And the problem is????

Call me old fashioned, call me a fool. I could not give a continental about the AWFL nor what Lilly M wears to the footy. MFC has much bigger fish to fry- like sorting out why we went from missing out on the GF by 1 game to sitting 3rd from the bottom.

You have my vote Sarg, on top of that who is she and why do we care?

I believe she was for all intentions going to play for Geelong but they said she had to play for their vwfl side as well. She couldn't do it so re signed with us. I am not 100%  sure of this but heard something like that from somewhere.

A men’s AFL player would be publicly shamed if he did that.

Very true.

It’s a bad look especially in season.

So a few years ago it was Troy Chaplin supporting Richmond, now our own Lilly Mithen has shown a passion for the Geelong Football Club. This is embarrassing and the club should sack her tomorrow

I'm furios and will pen a letter to the club first thing Tuesday seeking a full enquiry to get to the bottom of this outrageous display of treason. That is once I have calmed down enough to regather my thoughts.

And they are all acting so comfortably with it! I suspect they are having a very good time! Throw the book at her.

My favourite bit of this thread is the "Who is she?" posters who seem to take great pleasure in letting everyone know they don't like AFLW.

I legitimately had no idea who she was. I suppose that’s because I don’t watch the AFLW.

Fair enough but for a bloke with 16,000+ posts who is obviously a passionate supporter of the club you have also missed the various articles over time on her on the club website and not listened to any of the podcasts. She has also been on the tv footy shows and there has been articles on her in the mainstream media. She ain’t Patrick Dangerfield but the guys on here claiming ‘no idea’ must really go out of their way to avoid any AFLW news even that of your own club.

There’s no issue with not knowing who she is. I haven’t paid that much attention to the AFLW either - although I do know of Lily Mithen as she gets a fair bit of press on the MFC online presence.

It’s more around those posting “who?” and the like when it could obviously be inferred from the context of the thread. It goes from genuine ignorance to intentional ignorance. Pretty rude IMO and the only reasons I can think of that one might do that are pretty sinister.

SHOCK  HORROR!

My father worked  for Holden in Port Melbourne long term employee  and drove a Ford  to work.  They did't sack him.

Still can’t get over the day I saw Chaplin (paid MFC employee at the time) getting off the train at Richmond station in a Richmond scarf on his way to the Rich v GWS game.

No issue with him supporting his old mates but he could’ve been a bit discreet about it.

Far out, is it too late to take my post back? I didn’t think it would be scrutinised to the nth degree. Next time I’ll just utilise google before posting.

For those who do not recognise Lily's name:  The Mithen name is MFC Royalty.

mithen-name-lives-on-at-melbourne

Her grandfather’s cousin is Laurie Mithen – a Melbourne great:

  • won back-to-back Melbourne best and fairest awards in 1958-59
  • was a 5 time premiership player in 1955-56-57 and 1959-60.
  • played 153 games from 1954-62
  • topped Melbourne’s goal kicking in 1962
  • named in the club’s team of the century.

I believe she lived/s in the Geelong area.  As another post said she had the chance to join their inaugural AFLW team but turned them down to stay with the Dees.  That is loyalty.

Criticising Lily for going to the football with her Geelong following friends/family is churlish.  Didn't Nathan Jones go to the last Swans grand final to barrack for his brother's Swans?  He certainly wasn't their to barrack for the Bulldogs!!

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front.  They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
