The opposition player was not watching where he was going. I think May probably thought that the player would look up and avoid May - but he didn't till it was too late.

Mind you, if May missed his chin and only collected as far up as his upper chest, the players chin would have gone forward initially, then back. If he struck the chin at all the head would have gone back straight away. judge for yourselves

Spot on.  If it's medium impact then you would expect him to have some sort of concussion, blood nose etc.  He didn't.  He walked off the ground and, being a JLT game, kept him off as a precaution.  I'm hoping they challenge as I think they have a chance of winning it.

Looks to me gets him upper chest, chin whiplashes into the upper shoulder.

Seriously though, if that's medium impact to the head, then every single high tackle should be considered extreme contact and we would be left with no players.

I think the neck is considered high though isn't it? Mays shoulder goes right in under his chin into his neck. but if there's no injury to the neck could you say it was medium impact?

also we could possibly argue that what else was he supposed to do besides brace for contact, as you cant tackle a bloke without the ball.

 

So it’s careless and medium impact but Whateley stated on 360 it was judged as intentional and low. Good to see everyone in the media is on the same page.

Still, Mumford is important to the AFL's pet GW$$$, May plays for Melbourne, the AFL's whipping boy.  Therein lies the difference.

Clearly, wearing red and blue means incidents are judged more severely than others!!

It’s not appropriate to grade the severity based on the fact he took no further part in the game, because it’s a practice match.

And gun Melbourne midfielder Clayton Oliver was charged with striking Brisbane onballer Jarryd Lyons and can accept a $1500 fine.

my brain tells me that he won't get off and that instead he should just cop the ban.

However, even if this specific incident is not willing of a suspension, it does not bode well that he is doing this stupid stuff in a practice match let alone what might happen in the real deal. although he is new, he should still be leading by example.

I hate the stupid off the ball bumps and sniping, but this was a 20-times-a-game shephard that just happend to hit awkwardly.

I don't see how a near-stationary player turning their body to receive the contact of someone running right at them (even if the opponent was just running stupidly rather than intentionally) can be a suspension offence.
