Ok, this guy has been discussed in the past and I know some aren’t his biggest fans but at 27, this guy can snag a few and would be rather handy in our forward line an opportunist goal kicker?

Would rather persist with Gartlett

Would have to be the laziest player in the league.  Gets plenty of cheapies over the back because he doesn’t press or follow his man.  Two years in a row geelong have tried to palm him off.

With that said, he always seems to pop-up for a good match against us.  I’d draft him just so he doesn’t play against us again.

I think it’s suffice to say the many options we have are capable of kicking the scores that Menzel is so I don’t see the ‘gap’ in our list that would need him.

It probably just goes to show the state of Geelongs stock of small to medium forwards that this bloke is still getting a run and supported by the fact the Cats shop him every year.

He's had 4 knee reco's and had groin issues this year. You have to admire his persistence and in earlier days, he went well as a dangerous forward in a good team but those days are over and to fit into the Goodwin style you need to be strong, hard working and have physical presence.

So, it's a no from me.

It’s over. I can’t see the fit for us. I really admire him for the way he’s been able to bounce back in his career and his injuries definitely prevented him becoming what he could have been.

This is the kind of player Carlton should go after, not for us.

I'd rather go for Hartung and Oxley.

Once apon a time, not so long ago, we would have been all over him.

Now, ..... not so much.

Thank the sweet (insert fave deity) above we dont need NQR"s like him now.

Everyone's so against him I'd probably take him.

Defensive pressure can't be much worse than Melksham's and more likely to get on the end of a few than Hannan who chases hard but rarely lays a tackle anyway. Was a gun back flanker in his early days, maybe he can have Lewis' spot.

Would be nice to have a gun goal kicker at Casey. A throw back to the days of Fevola!

To be serious I'm not sure he's a list fit but at what stage do you take a talented has been over a never was? 47th spot on the list at 150k plus incentives?

His last 5 games (starting from the final and backwards) against us in terms of goals kicked are:

0,0,4,4,4

I understand the knock on Menzel but his offensive side of the game is elite. He ranked 16th in the league for goals per game last year ahead of Tom Lynch (GCS), Walker, Greene, Gray, Curnow, Membrey and Betts.

I would be in favour of bringing him onto the list instead of pick 90. What if Weideman or McDonald get injured this year?

Preuss and Max to rotate forward.  They both actually chase and tackle...

This is probably plan B. But I think we could do with another alternative on our list.

His forward play is very very good and he has some rare goal-awareness abilities. But his contested game and defensive run are nowhere near AFL standard. Absolute no from me.

Can we rookie list him maybe?

Yep, go back 4 - 6 years and anyone that had played a game for Geelong but wasn't in their absolute best 22 was still a champion player starved of opportunity by playing for the footy club with the team of the century.

How times change.  PLEEEEEASSSE let them come full circle and let people speak of the MFC like this one day!

Hartung would be good. Menzel possiblily , not sure if there are better.

Hartung no and I’d prefer Jake Neade over Menzel. Didn’t really ignite at Port but maybe we can work some magic with him.

I don't really follow footy much nowadays, since becoming almost solely fixated on the Demons during our dark years and getting an annoying foreign girlfriend who likes to do non-footy-related stuff on the weekends.

I'm curious though, when did Menzel go from being an absolute menace who would undoubtedly tear us up in every match preview (and inevitably in actual games) to being an out an out downhill-skiing spud as repeated on here in every second comment?

In a down year this year, and from a dozen appearances, Menzel kicked five bags of above three goals, including two tallies of four and a fiver. Three of those bags were against Melbourne, Hawthorn and Richmond. Last year he kicked 40.

No harm in a life-line - and let him and Garlett know that whoever puts in for the one percenters gets a gig.

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
