Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

I wonder how the salary works in a situation like this.

If he survives till the deadline on 6 March and Dees decide to take him as a rookie knowing that he might not even play in 2020 or a large part of it, wonder if there are any salary cap concessions. Like there are with players who go on the long term injury list except in this case he's coming in on the long term injury list.

Fixing the injury is just the start, his mental attitude has probably changed as well because when you have a child who looks up to you for inspiration, you neeed to become mentally stronger to carry the expectation.

I think people might be placing FAR too much weight on a baby turning around a once (supposedly) poor attitude.

How many busted [censored] losers have you seen with kids in tow, durry hanging out of their mouth and kids sans shoes? Plenty.

Not many of them have the opportunity to secure a job that pays $500k+ per year for the 3 years if they can get it together. That's a fair incentive.

True, but it's not a magic wand either.

The only thing I'm interested in is him being fit to play...

You would think he was Ivan Milat the way some people go on.

All his so called issues will mean nothing if he can get on the ground and perform at his best.

Before it get's taken as lore, I was being facetious with my comment as every injury we had this year seemed to be 4 to 6 and then they almost never played again.

Only this year?

Nick "426" Smith would argue otherwise.

You may be correct, but it certainly can happen. Take Martin Pike for instance the wild boy of Melbourne, North Melbourne and Fitzroy. Picked up by Leigh Matthews to play for Brisbane after Matthews claimed that Pike having become a father had settled down. And of course he played in the Lions 2001/2/3 premiership teams

OK just one example but I’m sure there are more. If Bennell can overcome his injury problems and has matured (many people do when they reach the age of 27 and have a family to consider) then us supporters are in for a treat!

His footy is the only thing I am interested in. Not his parenting skills.

If it’s true that he hasn’t run for 6 months, it would not be difficult to see him missing most, if not all of the season.

Playing any games this year might be a bonus.

I'm not expecting much in 2020, this isn't because I have any intimate knowledge of his situation it's just going on his past recurrence of injuries. The issue that many forget is that when a body gets serious injuries it creates other issues, his calves may get back to full fitness but who knows he might get back related soreness through overcompensation, or his hammy might be a bit susceptible to injury because it hasn't experienced regular full training for a long time.

I don't think this is being negative but I think there will be setbacks, all he (and we) can hope for is that he puts the hours into the rehab to minimise setbacks, and he continues to have the attitude that he is currently displaying. If those things happen then we might see what he can do on the field.

Happy to have him fit and simply slot back into the side for a few ( finals) games at the pointy end of the season a la Marlion Pickett. 3 or 4 September games is all we need from him. Imagine the lift to the team a fit Bennell would bring playing his first game in a semi or a prelim. One can only dream.

Those losers have to deal with faulty Centrelink robo-debts.

But ask @ding: just give the kid a big fuzzy ball and some jelly and it will be fine - freeing up Papa to concentrate on football.

Whilst Bennell has a tonne of running to do to catch up, he may well have done zero g running and bike riding, etc to keep his legs active. If his mind is in a good place, I'd back our FD to get his body right

What does a robo-debt have to do with choosing cigarettes over your kids shoes?

Nonsensical.

Like I said, I don't care about his parenting skills, only his footy. But if it helps him to give his all, that's wonderful.

Big problem is that Nick Smith’s 4-6 became 4 to 6, 4 2 6 then 426 weeks (= a bit over 8 years)

In 426 weeks Harley will be in his mid 30s and if still on our list would have become a genuine list clogger.

Wells.  Even if he only “did a Marlin Pickett” and came in for a GF win most (though I am sure not all) who post here would be reasonably pleased ?

Depends how poor his attitude was I guess. Was he a genuine no-hoper or a kid in his early 20s on few hundred K a year partying it up with his mates?

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
