Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

can't agree with this assessment, bub.

as for getting these "same ridiculous offers", that is the point i made. if we get the good offers then fine, so far i'm seeing a lot of noise indicating offers that don't make us demonstrably better. as for next year, weagles bound to be in it big time. plus a lot can change in 12 months

i don't want to see a hogan for may plus small change. we would be worse off imo

no fire sale, hogan stays

This week is like an auction... officially the house isn't on the market yet. It only ever gets  serious when the hammer is about to hit for the third time.

It hasn't even got interesting yet.

Does one of Oscar or frost potentially play forward if Tom goes down? Perhaps we have our eyes on someone.

They have already tried Frosty forward a few times. Dont know if his accuracy is a strong point.

That's all well and good, but it also proves the point that even the best sides don't have a gun replacement hanging around in the twos in case of an injury.  So if Hogan goes, we're still lucky enough to have T Mac and Weideman to play as our tall forwards.  We will be just like any other side.

I'd prefer to keep our advantage we have up fwd rather than be like other teams

I actually disagree. We can cover the front yard. The engine rooms getting an upgrade. We need our backyard in order. It isn't yet.

We got screwed in the prelim, not because we couldn't kick goals , so much as we couldn't stop them from doing so.

Hogan isnt that difference in our game.

I obviously have a very different take on things than most. That's fine by me.

we didnt kick one goal in the first half!  and the entire team played terribly. arguably the midfield was the worst on the day and cost us the most goals.

So would I, Dub, but the point I'm trying to make is that it's not the end of the world in terms of our depth if he chooses to leave.  I'd much, much, MUCH, rather he stay, but we're covered in case a McDonald or Weideman goes down with our ability to swing someone forward (Frost), potentially play a resting ruck there more (Preuss/Gawn) or go through some of our mid sized forwards (Melksham, Petracca, Fritsch, Hannan).

that's why the trade must be result in a demonstrable improvement for the side, or it's off for 12 months

Our weaknesses and greatest areas of risk are pretty obvious, it was laid bare this year on more than 1 occasion.

  1. Minding the big forwards. Brown, Hawkins, Cox, Kennedy and Riewoldt all got hold of us this year, in fact most of them get hold of us every year (++ Franklin and Daniher has threatened too). May helps here
  2. Resting Max. We ran him into the ground this year. We need to find 3 - 4 games where we can rest the big fella and a few more where we play 2 legitimate ruckman. Teams with 2 ruckman really work the big man over.  Preuss helps here.
  3. Outside run, carry and precision. Lots of bulls in the middle but not enough spread or precision navigating our way through defensive setups. Evidenced by lots of ineffective inside 50s and to a lesser extent back half turnovers. I'm certain the club have a plan to resolve but it's not been obvious to me so far.

I am not advocating strongly to trade Jesse, I am happy for him to stay, but, to my mind the only way Jesse can help us improve on  those deficiencies is by being traded out.

They may be putting pressure on Jesse to extend his contract, and if not leave now so we can set ourselves with what we need to challenge for the premiership.

Its now or never.

Bit hard to kick a goal when they're too busy with it .

I'm excited by our list turn-over. But the greater number of available spots the greater the contingencies and potential for compromise.

I'm now concerned that with Freo likely having a closer eye toward the draft than us, they could deliberately bog us down in negotiations.

fair enough.

I agree with all that - aside from trying Frost fwd again!  ?

not the end of the world in terms of our depth, but it is significant in terms of our high end talent

Exactly my thinking as well skuit. Freo could stuff us around for the entirety of trade week then at the last minute relent, stopping us from bringing in the players we'd need to cover the loss of Jesse and balance of the team.

We need to give them a firm deadline to meet, otherwise deal is off. period.

Absolutely. A deadline to make their best possible offer and then that's it. Worst case he stays and then we can accept whatever scrud they offer next year.

Actually no, worst case is we lose him for nothing, but let's just pretend for now!

    CENTIMETRES by Whispering Jack

Our game is one where the result is often decided by centimetres; the touch of a fingernail, a split-second decision made by a player or official, the angle of vision or the random movement of an oblong ball in flight or in its bounce and trajectory. There is one habit that Melbourne seems to have developed of late in its games against Carlton which is that the Demons keep finding themselves on the wrong end of the stick in terms of the fine line in close games at times when centimetres mak

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
