Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Sam McClure of SEN puts forward his idea of a blockbuster trade that could see Melbourne secure Gold Coast’s Steven May.

May has a year left on his contract so McClure opines that there may be a problem.

“The sticking point here is that the Gold Coast Suns aren’t going to trade Steven May, unless they get something overs for him.”

McClure reckons that Lachie Neale could be the key to the matter.

“Lachie Neale goes to Brisbane for Brisbane’s first pick – currently pick five – that is on-traded to Melbourne from Fremantle for Jesse Hogan, and that then allows Melbourne to with that pick for Jesse Hogan to get Steven May.

“I’m of strong belief that the Gold Coast Suns would accept pick five for Steven May.”

In other words, from Melbourne’s point of view, they get May in return for Hogan suggesting that he is worth exactly the same as May - a first round pick (notwithstanding that Hogan is a high ranking key position forward who is also in contract and three years younger than the Gold Coast defender).

To accept such a trade would be madness.

Would love some thoughts on what we think is actually going on here.

One thing we know for sure is Fremantle desperately want Hogan.

Does Hogan actually want to leave??

Is this being driven by MFC??

I have absolutely no knowledge of the situation whatsoever, but i really get the feeling MFC are driving this and happy to lose Hogan. I firmly believe if MFC told Hogan they didn't want to lose him, he wouldn't entertain leaving. He has shown commitment in the past (obviously things can change).

I believe MFC are driving this and a BIG FISH is coming our way (not May).

Considering Hogan is in contract, Freo or any club should be paying overs (none of the "fair trade" Mahoney rubbish).

I'd expect at least two first round draft picks (inc. this year's pick 5) and a second round pick. Freo players are out of the question. Can't see us getting Neale, Fyfe, or to even a lesser extent Matera. Plus, they should be taking the full extent of his current salary cap (+ more if possible).

Maybe in a few years, but Weideman is not commanding a million bucks this time next year, I don't care how well he plays.

Btw Roughead, Riewoldt, Kennedy, Patton, Cameron are not on a million and Boyd was severely overpaid.

if Hogan can demand $1.2M and Lynch $1.4m per year what are the rest worth.

hell gaff is commanding $1M plus. Check out Cameron by the way

there's a west wind coming

PS: If Cox doesn't fire big time I can assure you Pies will offer $1M x5 or more for the Weid end of next year

Ed Langdon will feature in this trade shall it go ahead

I’d prefer Jack Martin to May. Freakish skills and could kick 50 goals as a permanent forward pocket.

The media has lost the plot.

In what universe is chad Wingard worth 2 first rounders but hogan not?

Journos don't have time to track stats it seems.

Maybe these are the unintended consequences of not nipping injuries in the bud. We don't persist two or three weeks with Hogan limited to underperforming in the goalsquare, get him into surgery early. He comes back for the last three games like Viney. Sets the world on fire and these trade under scenario's don't get proposed. Recency bias in action I think now, as it's half a season since he dominated. You can bet Freo and our club know his value. And we hold the cards. Best to avoid Freo fans in discussing trade though, they'll pretend he's just a good player.

We all knew Freo would come, would like to know if the club has offered Hogan a contract extension. But if the FD has moved on from him after weighing up potential trades with what we would get in return for him, they then set about doing it with as little disturbance as possible, offering him something modest citing keeping the list together, knowing their offer would fall well short of Freo’s.

I still believe if we get 2 x first round picks they could be split and packaged up for May and another ready made player.

Reading this thread there are a lot of posts with “what happens if player X goes down”. There are 18 clubs and not enough talent to fill the lists. Three KPF is a luxury that cannot be held forever. Losing Hogan still leaves us with 2. With regards to injuries, what happens if Ben Brown or Jack Reiwoldt (they’re getting Lynch so not best example) goes down.

It's such a load of garbage isn't it. Lever was worth 2. Jesse is worth more. It's that simple.

Yes.

No.

It's clear now that it's Jesse's management who's come to the club, not the other way around. It's also absolutely believable. We took a risk and mini-drafted a KPF who worked out exactly as expected... Of course we're not going to engineer a trade. It's come from Jesse's camp.

You listed a bunch of key forwards and stayed they were all on a mil. They're not, Boyd and Buddy are but they were overpaid to get them to move.

Now youre just further speculating, it's not based on reality.

https://www.sen.com.au/news/2018/09/26/how-this-blockbuster-trade-could-see-melbourne-secure-may/

“They’ve already had one captain leave in Tom Lynch - who will be joining Richmond on a six or seven-year deal at just under one million dollars a season."

You're overestimating player salaries.

    MELBOURNE BUSINESS by The Oracle

In days of old, this week’s Thursday night AFL match up between the Demons and the Blues would be framed on the basis of the need to redress the fact that Carlton “stole” last year’s semi final away from Melbourne and with it, their hopes for the premiership.  A hot gospelling coach might point out to his charges that they were the better team on the night in all facets and that poor kicking for goal and a couple of lapses at the death cost them what was rightfully theirs. Moreover, now was

The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,
