91,000 + at the  G Felt like 70,000 supporting the Dees, incredible atmosphere and led from start to finish. Incredible football team and now l will always believed in this side that has been built since the Roos years. Now Goody is carrying on with his fantastic  work so far.   Viney is something special and Weideman is going to be something , infact  the football club is in a good space.

Yes! we can do it.

Just popped over to read the Geelong bigfooty page.  I expected a lot of animosity.  Not a bit of it,  In fact, here is a selection from the first few pages:

  • -good luck to the dees, their supporters deserve it.
  • -But both teams played rubbish and we were flogged.  I hope the demons can now get momentum.
  • -Melbourne should go deep, I'm actually going for them now in this Finals series, they play a good style of footy. Plenty of talent, their list was bound to explode.
  • -Congratulations to Melbourne! The best performing team won.  Now, I'm on the Melbourne bandwagon! I think I mentioned my darling Dad was a Melbourne supporter! While I'm devo for my Geelong Cats, I'm delighted for Melbourne! Go Dees!

Very gacious of them.  They saved their angst for their players and their coach.

My favourite comment from them is:   Oh well. Hope the Dees belt the p.ss and sh.t next week.

We had plenty of Cats fan express similar sentiments on the Geelong train home. They HATE the Hawks!!!

We are playing some great football ATM hopefully we can keep it up for another 3 weeks.

We have really found a gun in Weid, maybe Hogan for pick 6 and Neale isn't so crazy overall.

GO THE MIGHTY DEES!

Home now.  Bloody Hell that was awesome.  The noise when Jones kicked that goal in the last...  Incredible.

Loved the Weed's game.  Not just that he had 24 disposals and three goals, but he also racked up four tackles.  For a young KPF, that's awesome.

I've done my share of bagging Lewis during the season, but he was immense tonight.  If there's one knock n his game it's that he didn't get a tackle to his name, but he did everything else, including putting himself in Harm's way taking intercept marks.  He was everything we needed from a veteran tonight.

I don't think I can go through everyone who was amazing tonight, but I've NEVER seen the team attack the ball and their opponents like that before.  If they do that a few more times this year we'll have a pretty silver cup.

I should also point out that we have 18 players in that side with a 100% winning record in finals.  ?

Spargo and Tyson, only ones down on form tonight. Otherwise an even contribution

I would have Salem in that sentence.  He had some shockers.  He was the only player out there for us who looked like he was overwhelmed by the occasion.

His kicking was wayward early but he settled down in the 2nd half.

Had no problem finding the footy.

Those 2 goals he missed you expect him to kick.

I don't know who he was trying to evade on the first attempt.

It wasn't just his disposal in this game, his decision making seemed off also.

Parfitt has stitched him up a couple of times before so it was nice for Salem to blanket him tonight.

Awesome pressure, if we learn to convert, we CAN go all the Way

Bring tonight's pressure game and convert a bit better and we should account for Hawthorn. Anything less than that though and we're in trouble.

But on tonight's performance we were brilliant. Weideman, Harmes and Max were the standouts for me. Quite incredible to think Weed could stand up in a final like that and Harmes is a truly dominant mid now. He is matching it with Clarry and Gus. When you add Viney's tackle pressure, our midfield really could rip any other midfield in the comp in two.

I want to see more composure inside 50 next week, but generally, they made us proud on the big stage. We go again.

And how was that MFC crowd!? Incredible. At least 65-70,000 were Melbourne. At least. We keep this up and we'll walk in 50,000 members next year. It shows that if we can have some sustained success (and I mean flags), our dormant supporter base has the capacity to reach at least 65,000 members. And if you win flags, you get the kids jumping on board and 70,000+ becomes very attainable in the next 5-10 years.

The most exciting aspect about tonight was ticking off the mental barrier of winning a final. We saw what impact that had on Richmond for years. Well, we've ticked that off now.

The other thing this victory tonight does is really announce us to the footy world and stamp us as contenders over the next 3-5 years. We play a brand that stacks up in finals and will only get better as our younger players develop. This finals experience too will hopefully hold them in really good stead for next year, whatever the outcome from here on is in 2018.

And if I'm an opposition player, I'm wondering how do I get to Melbourne to play with these guys. Andrew Gaff, Dylan Shiel. These types. Lever saw it. Lewis saw it. Nights like tonight I'm front of 91,767 put us in that destination club conversation even further. Well done, PJ! And well done MFC.

What a night. What a win!

I loved that our players' response to mistakes and missed shots or free kicks seemed to be to go harder again. Never dropped their heads or lost their cool too much, even as the points piled up. That mindset seemed pervasive enough to have been coaching instruction and I think it really prevented us from collectively ever being too overawed by the occasion, which could easily have been a problem. What I'll always remember from this game though is the relentless pressure we put on, especially early: the smothers, tackles, bumps, niggle, chase-downs. Amazing.

And just so proud of our supporters. We really brought it from the first bounce too. There were clearly heaps of nerves and so many of us have been scarred by the past, but the volume of support we brought from the get-go really matched and (I like to think) reinforced the players' intensity. So I guess what I'm saying is well done us!

Sweet dreams, demonlanders ?

Looking back one of the things I love the most (apart from simply winning) is the unlike the last time we didn’t take our chances against them the players didn’t drop their heads one bit. They backed themselves, they backed each other, they supported one another, and didn’t give Geelong a chance to breathe. We literally suffocated them and gave them nothing.

We should’ve won by more but I couldn’t care less!

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n

    TRAINING: Monday 29th April 2024

Demonland Trackwatcher Kev Martin was on hand at Gosch's Paddock for Monday's training session and made the following observations. About 38 to 40  players down at training.  BBB walking laps.  Charlie Spargo still in rehab, doing short run throughs.  Christian Salem has full kit on and doing individual work with a trainer. He is is starting to get into some sprints. I cannot see Andy Moniz-Wakefield out there. Jack Viney and Kade Chandler have broken away from the

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f
